Runners & Vegans SHUT UP!

Is it me, or does anyone else have an abundance of people in their lives who INSIST on mentioning the fact that either they run or that they are a vegan Every. Time. I. See. You??????!!!!!!!

It's not that I'm against said running or veganism, but do you really have to talk about it ALL THE FLIPPPIN TIME????

There. I've said it. And breathe.......

I'm one of the most medically certifiably unfit people out there and I'll happily run for a bus (against medical advice) but not fucking wank on about it

ShinyGiratina · 07/11/2019 23:59

I'm all for sharing running, but then I was converted from the puffing, stitchy, shin-splinty side of haters by a cluster of friends sharing their runs which gave me the confidence to believe that attempting C25k might not be such a terrible idea and I ended up becoming another zealous convert dedicating their weekend mornings to the delights of parkrun and races Grin

I try not to bore on too heavily about it. I will sporadically mention races, particularly pleasing outcomes or lovely photos taken along the way (I tend to run in countryside), but not detailed analysis of every run. That's what fb running groups are for Grin

I couldn't be a vegan though, too many oral encounters with flies while running Wink
I've known vegans that share a lot of heavy material about general animal rights/ welfare, and not necessarily relevant to life/ standards in Britain, some of it distressing that I really don't wish to engage with. I'm happier to celebrate someone's 44;58.6 10k result with negative splits. Wink

I am totally guilty of this but I do love this one

DH is a vegan ultra-marathoner, doesn't tend to talk about either subject though.

It's like anything people won't stop banging on about. Being a runner and vegan is fine as long as they're not your only topic of conversation. If they are you can bore off. Then bore off some more.

Obviously I'm perfect & never irritate anyone

Me too except that I do run, and I am, according to ds, a parkrun obsessive!

In fact my running coach ran 14 minutes (yes you did read that correctly) at Dulwich parkrun a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have to look it up to know that was the 3rd fastest parkrun ever, and that one of the two fastest was also at Dulwich. That was what brought it home to me that my ds is absolutely right, and I am obsessed!

Xmas Grin

I am not vegan though, and I don't cycle enough to be boring about that.

Patroclus · 04/12/2019 14:07

Why do you need a coach for running?

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 04/12/2019 14:11

I think this about Welsh people. It's usually about 30 seconds into a conversation they shoe-horn in where they're from.

SocksRock · 04/12/2019 14:15

I am a runner and I try not to bang on about it. What does annoy me is people who go "oh you must do parkrun, it's changed my life, such a community, you'll get so much from it"

And then look really offended when I try to explain that I like running alone, it's my headspace and contemplation space and I don't want to share it with 300 other people. Plus my only time for a long run is Saturday morning and I'm not wasting it on a 5km stressful parkrun. 25km pootling along footpaths on my own is what I'm after.

People get REALLY hurt when I say I run but dislike parkrun
