Along with all the usual mansion rooms, what will yours have? Mine will have a wood pannelled map room full of globes, maps and gleaming walnut wood tables ot spread them out on to plan wild treks and expeditions.

Also a walled vegetable garden packed with fragrant herbs and vegetables grownin ornamental spirals and up willow tepees, with a Victorian glass vine house at one end. I will be making my own wine. And sherry. Do join me.

mine would be a huge room with wall to wall shelves filled with books that i want to read, with a big persain rug in the middle a super comfy sofa that i could curl up on to read all my lovely books, and a roaring log fire that i dont have to clean and light, with a huge crystal chandelier on the ceiling, and a lock on the insi8de of the door so i can lock the world out and no one can disturb me, heaven

Time40 · 07/11/2019 19:41

A Victorian carousel. An old and huge organ (church type)

A room where I could do weird art installations. At the moment, I'd really love to do one with metal trees and model birds.

I hope it goes without saying that this mansion already has a large and spectacular swimming pool?

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 07/11/2019 19:43

My own lab

Lineintime · 07/11/2019 19:43

A mosaic tiled hotbed thing you get in a spa.

Doobigetta · 07/11/2019 19:49

Wood panelled, double height library with big inglenook fireplace, beautiful antique rugs and battered (by age not bloody arsehole kitten) leather sofas.
Orangery with vines, orange and lemon trees and tiled floor.
Proper stone flagged, marble shelved pantry.
Lower ground floor kitchen with big doors opening onto terrace.
Kitchen garden.
Paddock full of Shetland ponies at the bottom of the drive.
Wild flower meadow beyond the kitchen garden, leading to a natural swimming pond with little gazebo cottage thing for changing in.
Not given it that much thought, really Blush

BrieAndChilli · 07/11/2019 19:51

Gift wrapping room

Baking kitchen

Lego room

Doobigetta · 07/11/2019 19:51

Oh, and obviously that’s just the English place. There’s also a Tuscan estate (for June- September) and a Caribbean bolthole (January- March).

JoJoSM2 · 07/11/2019 19:58

I’d have an indoor tennis court and a full size swimming pool. A slide into the pool for kids and an adventure playground with a retractable roof.

safariboot · 07/11/2019 20:17

Observatory. Been too long since I had a good look at the night sky.

ILoveAnOwl · 07/11/2019 20:22

A music room with a grand piano (possibly two for playing duets) and a harpsichord. I only have grade 5 piano, but when I'm rich enough for this I shall employ someone to make me practise every day so I shall soon be worthy of such instruments!

afternoonspray · 07/11/2019 21:31

You lot are excellent. We are having every one of these rooms in our mansion.

@JoJoSM2 Definitely a pool. Can we have an outdoor one too? I love swimming in a warm pool while snow falls onto the water. (Natural thermal springs. Very eco. And we can have @Lineintime's mosaic tiled bed things dotted all around.

@ILoveAnOwl - The harpsichord is a wonderful touch. No music room should be without one.

Not just a slide into the pool either but i think we need a slide from the upper stories into the lower stories too. And one that gets you from the attic to the garden. And maybe a zipwire from the tower to the bottom of the garden.

@safariboot - an Observatory - definitely! And let's have a camera obscura too, in a dome shaped tower next to the observatory dome.

@isseywith4vampirecats and @Doobigetta - can we combine libraries? Wood pannelled, double height (with those sliding ladders and maybe a gallery) oriental rugs, glowing fireplaces and a chandelier.

Paddock of shetland ponies is essential.

@HigherFurtherFasterBaby - do you need a perfect white modern lab or can it be a wood pannelled one bubbling wth copper cauldroms and winding glass cooling pipes and jewel bright potions that make us all slender geniuses of infinite energy and grace?

@BrieAndChilli If we are having a gift wrap room, can we also have a floristry room wher flowers are cut and arranged and crystal and orcelain vases glint? And I have to confess, we actually have a Lego room. It;s the spare bedroom really but it got so much Lego stored and built and played with in it that it became nown as the Lego Room.

Imagine all the staff needed in the mansion... Wouldn’t feel very homely!

afternoonspray · 07/11/2019 21:45

The staff will be friendly, discreet and brilliantly paid so they love their work.

OP posts:
afternoonspray · 07/11/2019 21:46

There can be a staff member assigned to each room so they only need to be around for about an hour a day, leaving the mansion free for us to roam around in for the rest of the time.

A gin distillery please (hic). We can get lots of lovely botanicals from the kitchen garden and orangery.

RuffleCrow · 07/11/2019 21:54

A huge back garden, a bathroom for everyone as well as a bedroom each plus a guest room, and a kitchen like that of a tv chef- most likely Jamie Oliver's - with a huge farmhouse table and at least 8 matching chairs. And some super comfy wing back chairs and sofas in the lounge, not like this lumpy old thing i'm currently sitting on.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/11/2019 22:22

Lego room.
Slides down all the staircases, and a massive ball pool.
A library accessed through a secret passage.

scaryteacher · 08/11/2019 08:02

A library, a sewing room, a spacious kitchen, preferably with Edwardian cupboards for lots of storage. A massive utility and boot room. An ensuite for every bedroom with freestanding baths and walk in showers. A productive kitchen garden, preferably walled with soft fruit cages. An orchard would be good as well. A guest wing or cottage, and a double garage with an inspection pit.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 08/11/2019 08:40

@afternoonspray Ewwwww to sleek white modern, it would totes be like an alchemy lab.

All the local children would think I was a witch and therefore stay as far away from my home as possible too

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/11/2019 08:44

A kitchen garden
A Lego room
A hidden bathroom through my wardrobe that dh and dc don't know exists

afternoonspray · 08/11/2019 10:10

Oh good @HigherFurtherFasterBaby - then the lab is definitely in! Witches encouraged.

Yes to the orchard. That inspection pit is a bit specific @scaryteacher. Grin What do you have in mind? Or will we have a suite of handsome ancient motors with walnut dashboards and cherry leather seats and a young chap in rolled up sleeves with lovely forearms, who just polishes their chrome?

I’d have a sewing/craft room with a huge table for cutting fabric and lots of beautiful antique machines as well as super duper modern machines.

A Christmas room, where I’d keep all the trees, decorations and do all of my wrapping.

A giant pantry with lots of shelving where I could store bulk bought loo rolls.

A library with an open fire and beautiful leather armchairs

Zenithbear · 08/11/2019 10:35

A party room
A stage at one end for live music and a well stocked bar at the other. A dance floor with tables and comfy chairs and a team of chefs providing a sumptuous hot buffet with delicious puddings.

Nottobesoldseparately · 08/11/2019 10:35

I want a huge walk in linen cupboard.

A room dedicated purely to my Christmas Decorations so i can spend all year planning and faffing in complete and utter Christmas isolation.

A bar.

A crockery cupboard.

A flower room, incorporating my vases, ornaments and candles so I can arrange to my hearts content.

A huge cellar kitchen, leading to a kitchen garden.

DryHeaving · 08/11/2019 10:52

A huge old fashioned green house, a walk in larder and a huge walk in wardrobe with a separate mirror room with plush seating
My garden would have a maze, adult 'go wild' zip wires, a folly , wild flowers and a path lined with lavender.
