DP bought me a ‘treat’ from the shop... (lighthearted)

I got a call from DP earlier to say he managed to get away from work early so stopped and done the shopping (a treat in itself!) he then tells me he picked me up a treat.. Just what I needed after a stressful day at work I thought!

I’m thinking maybe it’s something tasty to have after the tea I was then cooking or a nice bottle of wine rather than the cheap stuff I’d buy myself!

He gets in, I start putting he shopping away whilst he changes out of his work things, he then comes in the kitchen with a big smile on his face just as I’m getting 3 packs of asparagus with 50% off labels on out of the bag and says ‘oh you found your treat then’

My treat was bloody reduced asparagus, that I apparently don’t buy much. The reason behind that being I don’t really like it.. Grin

The thought was there though and I did thank him through gritted teeth Grin

@PigeonPieForMe imagining beating partner to death with said bunches

And find it fantastic!

Southmouth · 06/11/2019 20:32

These are making me laugh, least DP isn’t the only one bad at ‘treats’ Grin

DP is the type of person if you ever vaguely mention you like something just the tiniest amount, then all birthday/Christmas gifts will be based on that, forever. So in the 7 years we’ve been together I must of once mentioned something to do with asparagus I guess Hmm

When l was ill once, DP offered to go to the shops to buy me some magazines as a treat.

He came back with The People’s Friend, and some other crap. I wasn’t very impressed

Hamandcheesebaguette · 06/11/2019 20:41

I asked DP to get me a treat from the shop when I was ill.

He came home with a packet of fish fingers??

QueenoftheFarts · 06/11/2019 20:44

When my husband does the food shop I always get summoned in to the kitchen during the unpacking to appraise what he has managed to dig out of the reduced bin. He is always hugely proud of himself and it is essential that I then show great approval for his hunter gatherer talents.... asparagus would have been a quite exceptional find so I can imagine there would have been quite a bit of peacocking about something like that... 🤣

cantpick · 07/11/2019 09:39

Dh once bought me a mop as a present. I was not happy. What the fuck does he think? I like mopping?

doldrums13 · 07/11/2019 11:14

I sent my h to the shop for something for tea. He came back with light bulbs, an extension lead and pears Hmm Grin

Wilmalovescake · 07/11/2019 11:16

This thread is GOLD Grin

BertrandRussell · 07/11/2019 11:18

Oh good. Another thread about how sweet and charming incompetence and thoughtlessness in men is...

LochJessMonster · 07/11/2019 11:46

Oh good. BertrandRussell has arrived to suck the life out of a funny and lighthearted thread Hmm

hallohallohallo · 07/11/2019 11:52

3 packs of asparagus with 50% off labels was your 'treat'? And neither of you actually likes asparagus? Shock

I second the pp saying put them in a vase on the table. Grin

HalfManHalfLabrador · 07/11/2019 12:21

Displaying them in a vase is the only way to go!!

Bluntness100 · 07/11/2019 12:28

This thread remind me of the one where people were posting about shite birthday presents, and one poster wrote her partner bought her a big pork pie. Wrapped in grease proof paper and gave her it in bed. Still makes me laugh when I think about it. 🤣

Youvegotafriendinme · 07/11/2019 12:29

DH bought me a vacuum cleaner for Mother’s Day. Not only did we not need a new vacuum cleaner, I also have a deep seated irrational and unjustified hate of the brand he bought

Natsku · 07/11/2019 12:35

I asked OH to get the baby a little present for his name day. He came back with a jar of baby food.

Stationeryqueen · 07/11/2019 12:39

My DP sometimes works away from home, and he rang on the Friday evening he was coming home saying he had got a surprise for me.

I was so exited and had really missed him all week so hopes were high.

It was.....a Bag for life from a Chinese supermarket.

He thought the design was really nice, and to be fair it was.

He has also surprised me with a bag of pegs, a wooden blind, some tiles, and a Christmas pudding.

trevthecat · 07/11/2019 12:43

This thread is great! Crying!!

billycat321 · 07/11/2019 12:56

My late DH often went on holiday with his mates who shared his interest in golf and motor racing ( I didn't) His present was usually a mug bought on the ferry but once it was a set of saucepans!

GoldenHoops · 07/11/2019 12:57

I asked mine to bring me something nice and he came back with a glittery handled ice scraper IT WAS JULY!! He was terribly pleased with himself😞

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/11/2019 13:01

See I would love a steam mop as a random gift.

stitchwitch85 · 07/11/2019 13:05

Not DP, but my DF once said, "Oh, I’ve got something for you," as if it was an exciting treat, and then pointed to…half a red cabbage and a long piece of string 😆😆

There was context but it was still hilarious!

Botherfreedays · 07/11/2019 13:07

Mine once told me he'd got 'a special treat' for dinner. Turned out to be smoked cod. He was so pleased with himself.

183fredamarleymum · 07/11/2019 13:13

My late husband treated me to a new dust pan and brush for my birthday as I needed anew one. Redeemed himself by producing a cookery book I wanted.
