Is cottage cheese as vile as it looks?

I'm trying to cook healthier, cheaper meals and I've come across a few recipes calling for cottage cheese as it supposedly tastes lovely at a fraction of the fat of regular cheese. I've never had it because quite frankly it looks disgusting and is reminiscent of a rampant vaginal infection 🙈

Is it as bad as it looks? And if so, how can I get past how much it grosses me out?

For background, I once tried quark in good faith and haven't been able to look at it without feeling nauseous since.

You're all beyond vile with your cottage cheese concoctions. It's off putting enough in its natural state, but mixing it with other shit takes it to a whole new level of putrid.
If I have nightmares, in particular I shall blame the pps that mentioned beetroot and strawberry jam. Those posts should have come with a distressing content warning!

depends pn the brand.
i love langley farm... not fat free one though!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 01/11/2019 23:19

It’s vile stuff!

Honestly full fat milk, cream,, cheese is healthier for you and at least it tastes nice.....

It's awful stuff.

It's nice to see other sensible folk on here.

My mum gets the low fat version. And I quite like it. And I'm someone who doesn't normally like low fat versions. Can imagine the full fat versions being lush.

The go to lunch in this house is cottage cheese with prawns and cucumber on ciabatta bread

TinklyLittleLaugh · 02/11/2019 01:49

It’s lovely, the full fat Longley farm version.

But what kind of hell is cottage cheese lasagne? Lasagne is not healthy. It’s pasta and cheese and red meat. If you want lasagne, have proper lasagne: it’s delicious and now and again it won’t do you much harm. If you want healthy then choose something else.

Bluesheep8 · 02/11/2019 07:46

Nice to see all the love for Longley Farm, I live near it. Best cottage cheese ever

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/11/2019 07:49

I used to really like Losely yoghurt. I was sorry to see them stop selling.

Ginfordinner · 02/11/2019 07:51

It is delicious on a baked potato if you mix some salt and pepper, chopped pepper and spring onions into it.

As a PP has suggested Ricotta is a much better cheese for lasagne than cottage cheese.

I'd take a stab in the dark that if you think it looks vile you're not going to like it.

It is a diverse subject; I like it but think one pineapple is foul, odious and repulsive. (Not that I feel strongly about it.)

thewooster · 02/11/2019 10:17

It's nice mixed with sweet chilli sauce.

ForalltheSaints · 02/11/2019 11:20

I like it with a jacket potato

Deathraystare · 02/11/2019 11:28

Sadly yes it is! When I used to 'punish' myself with low calorie low fat this and that I did get cottage cheese but with added cheddar. Not so bad then. I do try to like it but yuck.

Unfortunately I recently watched a pimple popper programme and the stuff coming out of a bloke's knee was just like that. Yeuch!

Deathraystare · 02/11/2019 11:30

Lord Prof - yes I remember the Losely yogurts! and the heavenly ice cream. The acacia honey and ginger was out of this world!

BeeFarseer · 02/11/2019 11:34

I'm just here to add my voice to the Longley Farm appreciation.

I have a fresh tub of it in the fridge and now I'll be having it for lunch.

ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens · 02/11/2019 11:38

I was coming on to request Longley Farm.

Proper full-fat cottage cheese is lovely but surprisingly hard to find in the shops.

Low fat cottage cheese can vary from tolerable to foul.

Loyaultemelie · 02/11/2019 11:43

It's better than quark that stuff is inherently evil 🤢

Candlebarbara · 02/11/2019 11:49

It’s horrendous. I’ve never managed to get over the look and smell of it to actually taste it.
I can’t think of another food that gives me such a repulsive reaction..
