How often do you brush your teeth?

Inspired by another thread, and nc'd because I suspect I will be called a filth monger.

I usually only brush mine in the morning Blush If I've eaten fish I'll brush after that and chew gum, or if I've eaten something particularly oniony during the day then I will brush at night, but other than that, I just leave it to the morning time. I sometimes use mouthwash and occasionally floss or use a water flosser.

I go for my checkup and clean once a year and the dentist always says how healthy my teeth are. It baffles DH because he brushes at least twice a day and his teeth are not as strong as mine (though I know genetics plays a huge role in this).

I just don't see the point in brushing at night, though I suspect some of you will now enlighten me and tell me that all my teeth will fall out imminently because of my slovenly ways. Who knows, you may even convert me!

Am I the only one?

(sorry if I've made anyone feel ill)

Once.

I have a colleague though who is Lovely in all ways but doesn't clean her teeth properly and has visible decay. I guess she can't afford the dentist.

museumum · 31/10/2019 07:53

My overnight breath would be awful if I didn’t brush before bed 🤢

Ffsnosexallowed · 31/10/2019 07:56

Twice a day and use interdental brushes. Years of smoking left me with gum disease, so hygienist every 3 months and 6 monthly check ups. Finally have healthy gums again- apart from round one wisdom tooth which I think I'll lose soon.

Twice. It’s a bore but I do it religiously.
In fact I feel quite grumpy in the mornings until my mouth is fresh!

Yestermo · 31/10/2019 08:06

@00100001 I brush after breakfast, after lunch (if home) after dinner and before bed. Not too much as I don't brush too hard

Sarzy82 · 31/10/2019 08:08

3 times. Once a day is pretty grim tbh. Your mouth must feel grim

Ludways · 31/10/2019 08:42

Brush in the morning to keep your friends,
Brush in the evening to keep your teeth

Twice a day. If I'm going out of an evening then a third time too. Most important brush of the day is in the evening.

IndeterminateDate · 31/10/2019 09:03

Twice a day and floss at night.

beanaseireann · 31/10/2019 09:05

2-4 times daily.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 31/10/2019 09:53

Once a day in the morning. Toothpaste makes me gag🙁

yearinyearout · 31/10/2019 09:56

At least twice a day, most days more. Always in the morning after breakfast, always last thing at night, and will brush them in the day/early eve if I'm going out somewhere I'll be talking to people!
Can't understand why anyone would do them any less, don't you get the taste of stale tea/coffee/food bothering you?

ClientListQueen · 31/10/2019 10:30

@Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany have you tried a not mint one? I can't use mint

CustardySergeant · 31/10/2019 10:51

Twice a day (minimum 2 minutes as my electronic toothbrush has a timer) using interdental brushes afterwards. I've always brushed after breakfast and before bed and thought that was normal. I certainly couldn't go to bed without brushing my teeth and am astonished reading some of these replies.

happycamper11 · 31/10/2019 13:41

DD sometimes skips the morning brush if in a big rush. She was honest when dentist asked and Dentist said it wasn't the end of the world as long as she's doing or most of the time as the evening brush is the most important anyway. I kind of thought that was the obvious answer too as that's when you need to remove the build up of the day. Overnight you've presumably not eaten anything so it's more of a refresh. Can't imagine going to bed with food particles etc in my mouth, sorry that's a bit grim 😬. If it hasn't affected your teeth yet I'm sure it will at a later date

Sarahlou63 · 31/10/2019 13:48

Once, before bed. Chew gum in the morning. 56 and teeth will outlast my smokers lungs according to my dentist!

Ifyoulikepinacolidas · 31/10/2019 19:35

@ClientListQueen which non mint toothpaste do you have? The only ones I’ve seen are children’s ones!

dementedpixie · 31/10/2019 19:36

Oranurse is unflavoured.

Josette77 · 31/10/2019 19:39

Morning, afternoon, and night.

Once a day is gross to me. And not brushing at all is disgusting.

RedDiamond · 31/10/2019 19:40

How old are you OP?

Josette77 · 31/10/2019 19:41

@Sarahlou what about morning breath???? Your breath can not smell great masking it with gum.

dementedpixie · 31/10/2019 19:43

Even the children's flavoured ones will probably have the recommended amount of fluoride in them - 1450ppm

JessicaRarebit · 31/10/2019 19:57

I’m a bit obsessive with teeth brushing. I brush after every meal (I know this is not recommended but I just can’t help it!)

stoplickingthetelly · 31/10/2019 20:26

Always twice a day. If I’m going for an evening out or it’s parents evening etc I’ll brush them then too (although I do feel a bit odd brushing my teeth at work)

candlefloozy · 31/10/2019 20:35

Once in a morning. My hygienist was very impressed with my teeth and said I was doing a good job in the morning!

BarbourellaTheCoatzilla · 31/10/2019 20:36

My mouth was has fluoride in it so surely it’s adding extra fluoride not washing it away?

These people that brush 3 times a day does that mean at work? Because if it is I really hope you clean up after yourselves properly. I’ve worked in places when people leave their disgusting toothpaste spittle on the mirror and sink. Vile!
