How often do you brush your teeth?

Inspired by another thread, and nc'd because I suspect I will be called a filth monger.

I usually only brush mine in the morning Blush If I've eaten fish I'll brush after that and chew gum, or if I've eaten something particularly oniony during the day then I will brush at night, but other than that, I just leave it to the morning time. I sometimes use mouthwash and occasionally floss or use a water flosser.

I go for my checkup and clean once a year and the dentist always says how healthy my teeth are. It baffles DH because he brushes at least twice a day and his teeth are not as strong as mine (though I know genetics plays a huge role in this).

I just don't see the point in brushing at night, though I suspect some of you will now enlighten me and tell me that all my teeth will fall out imminently because of my slovenly ways. Who knows, you may even convert me!

Am I the only one?

(sorry if I've made anyone feel ill)

Morning and night plus floss (unless I'm pissed).

Some girls at work brush in the loos at lunch time.

You brush at night so that all the sugar and acid from what you've eaten in the day doesn't eat your teeth. Plus, smelly for kissing. You probably just have good genes.

I am normal gross but I do find it a bit gross that you don't brush at night

Ifyoulikepinacolidas · 30/10/2019 22:50

Not cleaning at night is Grim

Ugh

Mingers

GetTheSprinkles · 30/10/2019 22:52

Twice unless I'm feeling really lazy and cant be bothered at night time (but this is rare). Interestingly, we had a dentist come talk to us at uni who said that the main danger is plaque that is on the tooth for 48 hours or more so theoretically we don't always have to brush twice a day (I'm guessing this likely doesn't hold true for those with weaker teeth/overcrowding/sugar guzzlers etc)
I never floss as it's a faff but feel like I should Confused

iMatter · 30/10/2019 22:52

When I wake up,

After breakfast,

Before bed

And again if I'm going out in the evening

Longdistance · 30/10/2019 22:53

I brush mine first thing in the morning, or after breakfast (depends how the morning goes as it’s manic) and before I go to bed.

Username12348 · 30/10/2019 22:55

Definitely twice, after breakfast and before bed is essential..why, the dentist never told you that?

Plaque develops when foods containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches), such as milk, soft drinks, raisins, cakes, or candy are frequently left on the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods, producing acids as a result.

LikeTheOceansWeRise · 30/10/2019 22:55

Ohh twice a day at least! Sometimes if I'm REALLY cream crackered I will treat myself by not brushing in the evening.

I'd never not brush in the morning though - wouldn't you be paranoid about your gross breath all day long?

Itsallpetetong · 30/10/2019 22:58

What is your nightly routine? Do you wash your face before bed or is that okay to leave too? Curious because I couldn’t imagine not brushing my teeth at night.

Twice a day and floss after brushing at night.

I couldn’t go to bed with a minging mouth with the days scum stuck to my teeth any more than I could get into bed without showering with the days filth on my skin but im guessing that could be a whole other thread.

Cobblersandhogwash · 30/10/2019 22:59

Twice a day minimum.

If I have had a nap or a lunch out, one more time.

I love fresh toothpaste taste.

Morningbreath must be much worse not having cleaned teeth night before! It's bad enough as it is.

Bobthefisherghoulswife · 30/10/2019 22:59

2 or 3 times a day, I'm currently seeing my dentist every 3 months, I had weak gums before, but since pregnancy, they got weaker 😔

I had so much work done growing up, including experimental surgery it breaks my heart slightly that my teeth aren't good.

Wavyheaded · 30/10/2019 23:03

I brush twice a day, without fail. But floss.. erm, whenever I remember.

Twice a day; once in the morning and once before I got to sleep. I like to brush after dinner also if I ate something rather sugary or acidic.

Iwantacookie · 30/10/2019 23:12

Once a day in the morning but I floss and use mouthwash too.
I find if I brush at night I'm wide awake because my mouth feels awake. Sorry no other idea how to explain it.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/10/2019 23:13

After breakfast, then before bed. If I am going out in the evening then I do them before I leave the house, so three times. I floss and use interdental brushes after dinner. I actually had a checkup today and my dentist said my teeth and gums looked “super” - I had loads of orthodontic work as a child so that probably made me really aware of looking after my teeth.

shinynewapple · 30/10/2019 23:21

I brush my teeth at least twice a day. More if I'm at home- generally after meals and/or before leaving the house.

I've got advanced gum disease and it really pisses me off that other people don't clean their teeth every night yet have perfect , strong teeth.

Having said that, I don't think I did myself any favours in my late teens / 20's I would 'clean' my teeth by sucking mints and chewing gum - in the days before sugar free.

StarlightLady · 31/10/2019 06:04

Usually 3 times a day and always before sex.

legoninjago1 · 31/10/2019 06:06

Are you joking?? Sorry but that's terrible! 3 times a day here.

SimonJT · 31/10/2019 06:16

When I get up, when I get home from work and before bed. I floss once a day during my even brush when I get home from work.

The people brushing after breakfast, unless you wait at least 30-40 minutes after breakfast you are likely damaging your teeth.

Bickles · 31/10/2019 06:31

2-3 times a day.
Always morning and evening. After lunch if at work (I breathe close to people!)
Before I go out if wearing make up or something. After eating strong flavours.
I am a dentist though!
Once a day is not unusual but is disgusting! If you insist on doing once a day then brush in the evening as that’s the most important time. Your salivary flow drops in bed at night.
It’s good that you are obviously fairly resistant to dental disease at the moment but that may change as you get older.

linentowel · 31/10/2019 07:00

4 times a week

Fuck, your breath must be rank.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2019 07:12

After breakfast, then I wait at least an hour before I eat or drink anything. Then at bedtime. I use mouthwash both times too.

dementedpixie · 31/10/2019 07:34

You shouldn't use mouthwash at the same time as brushing as it rinses the protective fluoride away. If you use it, use it between brushings
