What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

I have big doubts about the Jeremy Bamber verdict too. There seemed to be a lot of financial gain by others and many things didn't add up. A bit of the Amanda Knox about it - he didn't come across particularly well so must be guilty.

Isitnearlyweekend · 28/10/2019 18:31

@itsgettingweird I agree. And Ben Needham who has absolutely no money ploughed into his disappearance unlike Madeleine McCanns disappearance which has had millions.

FelicityFeather · 28/10/2019 18:31

See, I don't think 'many' women do kill their children actually. Some do of course, but not 'many.'

It is far far more likely to be a man as born out by statistics. I don't believe it was Sheila and I don't really understand oriole trying to fit it to show it was her.

An interesting fact about the Bamber case.... he was well known to race everywhere in his car. Often pulled over by police for it. On the night of the killings, after he placed the call to the police, he said he was making his way over immediately to the house. The police passed him on the lane as he drove along on his way there - surprisingly ambling along at a snails pace which was highly unusual for him - and even more so when you consider the circumstances. Why? It's almost as if he wanted the police to arrive at the farm house before him ..

I do agree that there are questions to answer however. And I know he's the only prisoner with a whole life tariff who protests his innocence.

However you either believe in justice or you don't and he's appealed twice now and each time a judge and jury has remained convinced of his guilt so, on balance, I think the right person is in the right place

The Beaumont Children.

I agree with Brian Shaffer. Genuinely baffling.

Who said ‘many’? Not me.

You think people are trying to make it fit that Sheila was the murderer. It’s very obvious that the extended family went to enormous lengths to make it fit that Jeremy was guilty, including putting huge pressure on Essex Police and fabricating evidence. If you really look into this case you will find so many inconsistencies that imo make the conviction unsafe. But one thing that isn’t in doubt is that Essex Police conducted an appallingly poor investigation and Bamber’s defence team were equally inept. I don’t think he would be convicted should the case be rerun today.

The Beaumont Children. It's sad the mum will never get closure as she died a few weeks ago. To lose 3 children and never know why or how. Horrible.

FelicityFeather · 28/10/2019 19:18

@AlexaAmbidextra not you, no. I'd have tagged you if I was aiming my comment at you

FelicityFeather · 28/10/2019 19:19

Oh and just like me, you're an armchair detective. I don't profess to know more than the jury and judge and police. Hopefully you don't either

SheruMoo · 28/10/2019 19:22

The Beaumont children is so harrowing. Experimenting on them? Sewing them together? That's my nights sleep gone.

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 19:28

Madeleine McCann and Claudia Lawrence.

These and Melanie Hall.

cushioncovers · 28/10/2019 19:31

Also the female estate agent that went to a house showing and just disappeared. Suzy Lamplugh.

ReggaetonLente · 28/10/2019 19:37

My late dad grew up with Jeremy Bamber, knew the family well, and was always of the opinion that Sheila had it in her more than Jeremy did. He felt JB was also stitched up royally by his on off girlfriend for a paid for interview in the Sun.

My mum however, who also knew JB, does think it was probably him.

KatherineJaneway · 28/10/2019 19:56

As well as the one that can not be named, I want to know about Meredith Kercher.

'It is far far more likely to be a man as born out by statistics'

See, for me it's what I have learned about men and violent crime through feminist activism that makes me think on balance it probably wasn't him. Every male family annihilator I have ever read about has a history of violent, controlling behaviour, usually domestic violence. Bamber's ex girlfriend gave evidence against him but she didn't paint him as personally violent, her story was that he had paid a hit man.

Obviously this is on top of the obvious dodginess of the police investigation, but I do find it weird in its own right given what violent males are usually like.

I'm listening to the Casefile episode on Amy Lynn Bradley at the moment (who disappeared from a cruise ship). What do people think happened to her? I feel like she probably fell overboard somehow, the sex trafficking theory seems like a red herring to me.

FelicityFeather · 28/10/2019 20:56

@TooMuch87 I read lots about that too and definitely feel she went overboard - pushed or fell, I don't know. The sex trafficking thing is just nuts

Totally agree Amy Lyn Bradley fell overboard. Very sad but it just doesn't make sense that she would be kidnapped from a cruise ship. Maura Murray ran away from the police into the woods and very likely died of hypothermia. Patsy Ramsey wrote the ransom note, Burke probably killed JonBenet by mistake. John Ramsey, the father is a shady character who a lot of people are afraid of. I think Adnan Syed killed Hae Min Lee but I just can't work out Jay's involvement.

I would love to know who killed those poor boys in the West Memphis Three case. I think Damien Echols knows more than he's letting on.

The Lake Annecy murders are truly baffling too, the family shot in their car in the Alps along with a passing French cyclist - which one was the intended target? I listen to a lot of true crime!

itsbeenalongtime · 28/10/2019 22:03

Michaela McAreavey, would love her family to get justice for such a tragic death. She was murdered on her honeymoon in her hotel room.
