Healthy eating thread, NOT for weight loss?

NancyEspana · 27/10/2019 16:27

I know weight can be an indicator of health and it isn't something we should just ignore, whether we are overweight, underweight, healthy BMI but not comfortable with our weight or with a big waist to height ratio etc.

BUT, there are already countless weight loss threads on here, which are fantastic help sometimes, but for me, can sometimes be counterproductive. Not to mention me feeling as if I have been bombarded with diets, slimming clubs, books on weight loss, magazine articles on the way to get beach body ready, since before I can remember. I think I have diet fatigue Grin!

I have been looking for a thread on here for just healthy eating / healthy habits. I really don't want to know what weight anyone else is, or how many lbs they have lost that week, what their BMI is or even what their measurements are.

But, I would really like a place to discuss healthy eating and healthy habits, like exercise, not too much alcohol, drinking more water, getting enough fruit and veg etc, without getting out the measuring tape or weighing in every week.

I appreciate, I sound like a right fussy fecker Blush, but I don't think I'm the only one who must feel this way. But, I haven't come across any recent threads like this.

Would anyone like to join me on here?

Full disclosure: if I so happen to lose weight by changing my habits and making healthy choices, that would be a welcome side effect, but I would be equally happy if I maintained my weight but just made healthier choices and maybe changed shape a bit if I got more exercise etc.

Posting here as I don't know where else to post it basically and also because I think it will disappear from here if nobody responds because they think I'm an arse for posting Wink.

It is this one @redavocado Smile. It's quite easy and not too many weird ingredients.

I forgot about this thread when it dropped off active. Glad it’s back again.

We’ll gloss over breakfast and lunch but I had a nice dinner of veggie bolognaise with a heavy sprinkling of nutritional yeast on top.

Just bumping this post for ideas / keep it going

The thread dropped off my “I’m on” list.

Trying superbly hard to continue with the healthy eating.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/12/2019 16:20

I'm trying to combat two things in one go- to stop snacking on things like cakes / biscuits and swop this for fruit / veggies. To increase intake of five a day (or more) and at the same time cut down the cravings. Finding apples very filling and don't get the sugar crash after either. It helps with not being hungry as well.

It os good to have reasonable achievable goals I guess 'more of' rather than 'never going to'.

ememem84 · 11/12/2019 20:59

I’m trying where I can to get a fruit portion into or alongside every meal. Apple with my breakfast today two small satsumas after lunch and some berries after dinner. We had spick garlicky stir fried broccoli and brown rice.

NancyEspana · 11/12/2019 21:09

Hi all!

Apologies for going off radar. Life got in the way yada yada. Let's just gloss over this week and say tomorrow is a new day for me 😬.

Is anyone thinking of doing Veganuary this year? Or next year. You know what I mean! January 2020.

OP posts:
ememem84 · 11/12/2019 21:12

I might do it @NancyEspana I enjoyed my foray into vegan ness a few weeks ago.

My water intake today has been shockingly bad. This is in large down fo Dd. Who wouldn’t be put down this afternoon. Wouldn’t sleep. Nothing. Except cry. Ffs. So she sat on my lap. Crying.

NancyEspana · 11/12/2019 21:50

Ah hate days like that @ememem84! Ds now throws himself on the floor and screams if he doesn't get the exact thing he wants immediately. We are at that horrible stage where they know what they want but can't really communicate ot properly, so...screaming.

Hurray! I'm planning on doing it this time. Already making a shopping list. Can't say it looks all that healthy so far, but you know.

ememem84 · 11/12/2019 21:54

Ha! Ds (age 2) did that to me last night. Right in the middle of the kitchen floor. I picked him up and moved him to the hallway where I couldn’t trip over him. He wanted apple juice. But couldn’t have it because we didn’t have any. But couldn’t understand that we didn’t have any. What he thought was apple juice was a carton of oat milk. (Screw top carton like the apple juice we buy and it was in the same place as said apple juice...)

Aheraldangel · 11/12/2019 21:56

Can I join?

I'm definitely at least 2 stone overweight, but I don't want to get obsessed with dieting, because I know I won't stick to it and I'll be miserable .. my happiness is fragile at the best of times Blush

So I've decided to cut out sugar and bread, cakes, biscuits MOST of the time, unless I'm out and treating myself. I suffer with lots of aches and pains and have been reading about anti inflammatory diets and think there must be something in it, so hope for some improvement, rather than taking heavy duty painkillers.

I hope this doesn't go against the general mood of this thread. I'd love some company and encouragement. I know it's going to be difficult at this time of year, but hope that by cutting down on sugar at least my health will improve.

NancyEspana · 11/12/2019 22:02

Hello @aheraldangel! Welcome Smile.

Your plan sounds like a really good one. I have no idea what my plan is anymore to be perfectly honest! But yes, generally less cake and more fruit and veg. I need a kick up the proverbial tbh.

ememem84, yes ds will be two in January and this is the age! I think he is more chilled than the older one, but only time will tell!

Aheraldangel · 11/12/2019 22:06

Thank you Nancy Smile At the moment I feel positive, but I know it's going to be hard. I tend to eat when I'm bored and grab biscuits when I can't motivate myself to eat something healthy but need something quickly.

WeAreTheWeirdosMister · 12/12/2019 08:46

Hi, I'd love to join. I dont need to lose weight, but would love to be a fitter, glowy version of myself. I have eaten toast for the last 5 meals as the whole house is floored (3dc's) with a stomach bug. I want to get inspired and get healthy as soon as we are collectively well Xmas Grin

NancyEspana · 12/12/2019 16:09

Welcome @WeAreTheWeirdosMister!

Jeez, 3 dcs with a tummy bug sounds awful! Don't blame you for surviving on toast!

Horrible weather here today and busy with dc1 nativity and after school activity. Amazing mil has dc2 though, which is lovely.

Food has been all over the place. I have done a lot of walking, (in the rain Xmas Hmm), and lots of cleaning earlier, so the house was less awful for mil coming, which I'm counting as exercise.

Just went to Tesco for a 'glowy' shop, bought 2 soups, cauliflower- which I'm going to roast with curry powder and have with a salad, red grapes, cherry juice, leaves and some cereal called 'Good Belly' that contains probiotics.

NancyEspana · 13/12/2019 11:13

Good work weirdos! I have a shopping basket in the go for Veganuary, but booked to arrive on 31st.

I probably can't justify waiting till then to eat more healthily though...Xmas Grin.

I have yoga booked for tomorrow and a busy weekend ahead.

OP posts:
Aheraldangel · 13/12/2019 11:33

Sounds like a healthy shop weirdos! I need to shop today too, last night I succumbed to biscuits, because I was hungry and there was nothing much in the house. I'm going to buy soup and nuts to snack on. I'll have a walk today too.

NancyEspana · 13/12/2019 12:25

Yes, I might do a healthy online shop to arrive tomorrow. I can't face our local grocery shops on a Friday. It's chaos! Can't get parked etc. Thank the lord for online shopping!

WeAreTheWeirdosMister · 14/12/2019 10:56

A Tale Of Caution;
Last night I made a delicious salad consisting of a full bag of salad leaves, a roasted head of cauliflower dusted with curry powder, grapes, peppers, crispy onions, roasted chickpeas and balsamic glaze. It was v.nice, but after a massive bowl of it I was still hungry, so I went back to the kitchen and got the rest of it.
I. Ate. A. Whole. Head. Of. Cauliflower.
This was a mistake guys, after eating toast for days on end my stomach was not ready of the fibre. I spent the evening doing the most noxious farts Crown Envy not envy. It was like a one women act from that scene in A Nutty Professor.
Ease into cauliflower, my friends.

redavocado · 14/12/2019 11:00

My healthy eating has gone out the window. Work has been terrible this week and the kitchen at home has seen a steady stream of mince pies, brought in by me, DH and DM. I feel horrible!

The fridge is stocked with some pretty healthy stuff, I just need to focus on that and ignore the carbs.

And thank you for the lentil moussaka recipe! I have a feeling I might have made that in the past. It looks familiar and I'll definitely be trying it again. Grin

NancyEspana · 14/12/2019 12:30

😂😂😂😂 aw weirdos, a lesson to us all! I remember the last time I went vegan. Holy fuck, I STANK. Dh did too.

redavocado, you and me both. I need to have a word with myself.

Healthy shop arriving later today, which will help hopefully.

OP posts:
ememem84 · 14/12/2019 16:45

I bloody love mince pies.

I also love pigs in blankets, stuffing balls (Dm only makes balls of stuffing at Christmas) hot cross buns and Cadbury cream eggs. Seasonal food mostly.

Today I’ve had toast (White not brown) an apple, a salad and am not having a mince pie and a green tea.

Chinese later with friends. Yay. And wine

redavocado · 14/12/2019 19:44

ememem84 I'm the same - I LOVE all the carby/sugary seasonal stuff! I find this time of year really challenging.

I do think that it's particularly hard with young children. I work full time and spent my weekdays rushing to either work or nursery. A sugary snack is the only real pick me up I seem to have during the day. If anyone has other suggestions, they're most welcome! DH suggested a fruit tea.Hmm

ivykaty44 · 14/12/2019 20:44
