Healthy eating thread, NOT for weight loss?

I know weight can be an indicator of health and it isn't something we should just ignore, whether we are overweight, underweight, healthy BMI but not comfortable with our weight or with a big waist to height ratio etc.

BUT, there are already countless weight loss threads on here, which are fantastic help sometimes, but for me, can sometimes be counterproductive. Not to mention me feeling as if I have been bombarded with diets, slimming clubs, books on weight loss, magazine articles on the way to get beach body ready, since before I can remember. I think I have diet fatigue Grin!

I have been looking for a thread on here for just healthy eating / healthy habits. I really don't want to know what weight anyone else is, or how many lbs they have lost that week, what their BMI is or even what their measurements are.

But, I would really like a place to discuss healthy eating and healthy habits, like exercise, not too much alcohol, drinking more water, getting enough fruit and veg etc, without getting out the measuring tape or weighing in every week.

I appreciate, I sound like a right fussy fecker Blush, but I don't think I'm the only one who must feel this way. But, I haven't come across any recent threads like this.

Would anyone like to join me on here?

Full disclosure: if I so happen to lose weight by changing my habits and making healthy choices, that would be a welcome side effect, but I would be equally happy if I maintained my weight but just made healthier choices and maybe changed shape a bit if I got more exercise etc.

Posting here as I don't know where else to post it basically and also because I think it will disappear from here if nobody responds because they think I'm an arse for posting Wink.

@redavocado fruit tea?! Because that’s going to help. My dh suggested almonds and raisins to help me with my 3pm sugar cravings. I didn’t like to counter suggest a bar of fruit and nut

I’m trying to get some fruit in with each meal. So every day this week I’ve had either an apple with my breakfast and a satsuma with my lunch. Or an apple with lunch and porridge with frozen berries for breakfast.

ememem84 I was not impressed! He doesn't really have a sweet tooth and manages to devour snacks without gaining weight so I don't think he gets it. I might try nuts and raisins though, thanks!

@redavocado I was also logging my food on my fitness pal. Just to look at what I was eating. I’m going to start this again in January.

May I join?

After a stressful but not traumatic year, I want to start concentrating on me rather than just getting everything done.

Ideas are:

  • stop eating crap with a view to eventually just consuming goodness
  • do daily stretching with a view to feeling bendier, more awake and less ancient
  • don't stress the small stuff
  • participate in an interest - dance class? learn an instrument?
  • drink more water
  • be more smiley

Welcome @ivykaty44 and @Morton2 Xmas Smile.

Sounds like a good plan.

I'm definitely up for a bit of food journalling, but I may not use MFP, as I don't really like using it. I find it easier to just write things down.

Busy weekend here, but lovely. Trying not to snack and so far that's been easy as we've been so busy! The test will come in the week when we have less exciting days, school run etc.

Thanks for the welcome Nancy

I’m going to make some 3 soaked oats in a while for breakfast next week, I have chia seeds to add along with linseed, I soak equal parts of oats & soya, add the seeds then top with frozen winter berries & dark cherries 🍒

Hope you're all well.

I've been eating quite healthily, but mainly because I've not been feeling great. I had crumble at my mum's on Sunday, but otherwise have only snacked on nuts and fruit. I've had no sugar, so quite pleased with myself.

Morton2 · 18/12/2019 14:10

Here's how I'm getting on with my personal goals:

  • stop eating crap - haven't bought any biscuits but still finding toast with jam an easy go-to snack so need to find a healthier substitute
  • do daily stretching - have discovered You Tube posture videos - some better than others. Find I'm more committed to doing them than yoga. Anyone got a particularly good posture focussed YouTube video they can recommend?
  • don't stress the small stuff - bearing this in mind with state of house; lack of contribution from DC
  • participate in an interest - that's something for the new year
  • drink more water - have a small amount on waking otherwise it's tea/coffee
  • be more smiley - some progress Grin

How's everybody else getting on?

May I join? Perimenopause is on the horizon and I really want to have a healthy diet (good cholesterol levels etc), avoid putting on weight and ideally drift sustainably downwards) plus get some weight-bearing exercise into my routine. Better sleep would help (both with mood and avoiding midnight snacks!)

I've been working towards 10 a day (generally not managing it but hitting 7-8 which feels positive) and have a kettlebell routine I keep failing to doing as I'm always too shattered after work/bedtime!

Hey all, Christmas was a scoff-fest, ate healthy for meals but the snacking was out of control!
I am thinking of doing a meal plan in NY, looking something like;
Breakfast - porridge and berries
Snacks - yoghurt, fruit, nuts, boiled eggs
Meals - protein, sweet potato, avocado, veggies
Dont know how long I can keep it up, (bread junkie) but thought it would be a good way to kick off the new year.

I wanna contribute not to healthy eating, but to healthy drinking.
We used to drink bottled water at home, and expected it to be crystal clear without any chlorine, bacteria or alkalinity. Ohh, we've never been so mistaken.
Last month my husband brought home a water tester (I don't remember the name of that one, but this one is pretty similar cookspot.org/best-water-test-kit/#product2 ). So, we wanted to make this huge experiment just for fun. We took filtered water, our normal bottle and asked our neighbors for a glass of water that they order every week. The result was completely unexpected for us. The bottled water was the worst one. Delivery and filter had pretty similar results, the only difference was in hardness.
We changed bottles for filter, and maybe it's just a placebo effect, but I do feel myself better.
