Wwyd, Dr wants me to go to a&e

I've been feeling a bit off colour for a few days, with a bit of a temperature, headachey, sore throat and needing to pee more frequently. Was pretty sure it was a UTI or possibly even a kidney infection, but also maybe a virus of one kind or the other.

Been to walk in centre this afternoon because I thought if it's a UTI I should get it checked really. Did the usual dip test, no infection apparent. Have got a bit of an ache in the kidney region and it was a bit sore when he pressed on my bladder and upper stomach (around the bra line) but otherwise nothing much else. My BP is fine and he recorded my temp as 37.1c (although my skin does feel warmer than usual)

He can't decide what's wrong with me so wants me to go to a&e. I don't think I need to, I don't feel THAT ill. Husband of the opinion I should go if GP said so.

Wwyd?

I would go.

Witchend · 25/10/2019 16:32

I would go if the GP thinks you should. Has he given you a letter to hand in?
When my friend was in that situation she opened the letter to see what he'd said. "Suspected meningitis" (and it was) meant that she thought she better go.

SometimesItRains · 25/10/2019 16:33

I would listen to the medical professional. If you’re worried about wasting time you can’t be accused of that if the GP has advised you to go. Hope you feel better soon.

So the dr has told you to go to A&E? I would go!

Readytogogogo · 25/10/2019 16:34

Just to be clear, you've had the opinion of a trained health professional who has examined you in person, but you'd rather have the opinion of randoms on the internet?

bloodywhitecat · 25/10/2019 16:35

If the GP is concerned enough to recommend A&E I would go, most doctors don't send people to A&E lightly.

Natural selection taking place before our very eyes Wink

I 100% agree with this! A GP wouldn’t send you to hospital if they didn’t feel you needed to go!

SpaceDinosaur · 25/10/2019 16:36

@XXcstatic GrinGrin

Mrsjayy · 25/10/2019 16:36

I think you should go Dr seems concerned enough to want you to go so...

Was about to say exactly this Grin

MonsterMashedSpud · 25/10/2019 16:37

If GP says go then go.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 16:37

Has the GP told you why he thinks you need to go to A&E? Without explanation it seems a bit odd, what is a doctor there going to do that s/he can’t? Have they given you a letter for a&e explaining what he wants?

I mean I think I would go, because what else can you do to get treatment? But I wouldn’t be happy going without knowing why

Lunafortheloveogod · 25/10/2019 16:41

Awkt come on guys be reasonable I’m sure the GP thought you just needed a day out that’s why he wanted to send you to a&e...

Don’t ignore trained medical professionals, he couldn’t make a diagnosis but felt it warrants urgent further investigation, a&e have access to a wide range of equipment that he doesn’t.

SouthernComforts · 25/10/2019 16:41

Got to be a wind up, nobody is this much of a dithering idiot.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/10/2019 16:42

I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in my GP. But I would go, if only to be seen by another doctor.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 16:43

I don’t think she’s an idiot. She’s going to be sitting in A&E all night and might have caring responsibilities etc. She doesn’t even appear to feel that bad

As I say I think I would go but it would be usual for your GP to give you a letter for hospital explaining what they want them to do. What’s the point in turning up and starting again without the power of a genuine GP referral?

Bodear · 25/10/2019 16:43

Let us know how you are OP.

For the record I echo @Readytogogogo

Don’t ask us, follow your GP’s advice.

Mrsjayy · 25/10/2019 16:46

My mum dithered about going to A&E when a car crashed near her and a small wall fell on her so yes folk can be that dithery Shock

Tensixtysix · 25/10/2019 16:47

Has the GP given you a letter for A&E? Can't you get a second opinion from the same surgery?

Layoverlife · 25/10/2019 16:47

Seems obvious to me but hmmmm 🤔
A Gp recommends you go to A&E, but should you go or not?

Go Obviously! What have you got to lose? It'll also give you a piece of mind 🤷🏻‍♀️

XXcstatic · 25/10/2019 16:48

But I wouldn’t be happy going without knowing why

She does know why: she has abdominal symptoms and the GP has not been able to find the cause (unsurprisingly as there are hundreds of possible diagnoses).

what is a doctor there going to do that s/he can’t?

Oo, let's see: blood tests with same day results, x-ray, USS, CT, MRI, surgical opinion, gastroenterologist opinion, gynaecologist opinion, urologist opinion. The OP won't, I'm sure need all of these. But they are all available in hospital to make the diagnosis, unlike in a GP surgery.

ShitOnIt78 · 25/10/2019 16:48

🤣🤣

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/10/2019 16:50

@Alpacathebag - the GP is not going to send you to A&E for no good reason, so my advice would be to go.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 16:51

Not sure why you’ve chopped up my reply so it’s completely out of context @XXcstatic I’ve clearly said she should expect a GP letter explaining that. Perfectly standard
