Wwyd, Dr wants me to go to a&e

I've been feeling a bit off colour for a few days, with a bit of a temperature, headachey, sore throat and needing to pee more frequently. Was pretty sure it was a UTI or possibly even a kidney infection, but also maybe a virus of one kind or the other.

Been to walk in centre this afternoon because I thought if it's a UTI I should get it checked really. Did the usual dip test, no infection apparent. Have got a bit of an ache in the kidney region and it was a bit sore when he pressed on my bladder and upper stomach (around the bra line) but otherwise nothing much else. My BP is fine and he recorded my temp as 37.1c (although my skin does feel warmer than usual)

He can't decide what's wrong with me so wants me to go to a&e. I don't think I need to, I don't feel THAT ill. Husband of the opinion I should go if GP said so.

Wwyd?

Go.

Jaxhog · 26/10/2019 19:15

I sympathize Op! If the Doc says go to A&E - you go.

I fell over ion the ice earlier this year and just thought I'd bruised my wrist. A couple of days later a friend suggested I go to the Docs, so I did. He sent me straight to A&E, although I really didn't think it was necessary. But DH insisted, so I went, they x-rayed it, and I'd broken my wrist.

It's better to be safe than sorry. You just never know.

Banj0girl · 26/10/2019 19:50

My husband’s GP sent him to A&E. He got shouted at and told they were not doing the GP’s work for them.

I would go to a and e to be on the safe side

fluffiny31 · 26/10/2019 20:08

My gp sent my daughter to a and e the other day because they couldn't see her. I knew she was at the start of an infection and she does decline quickly but walk in centre would of done but no said a and e because of how quickly she goes down hill. He could of seen her the next day but I know she wouldn't of got through the night without meds. Went to a and e apologised because it didn't need to be a and e. She had the start of a chest infection and left. Felt so stupid and like I was wasting their time because she wasn't majorly poorly at the time just a temp that wouldn't shift but I knew she would of been if I left it. Glad you got seen and everything is ok op.

Starlight456 · 26/10/2019 20:18

Tbh if you thought it wasn’t necessary the go you saw was the best person to query it with no ransoms online.

No one here is in a position to suggest you override a gp

manicmij · 26/10/2019 20:30

Goodness, there are so many folk who complain about Drs when they are not referred to A & E and here you are dithering. You know what to do - go!

Mammajay · 26/10/2019 20:30

Op are you feeling better? I never understand why people are so rude to each other

Gempeatea · 26/10/2019 20:43

Oh goodness me.... 😂 😂 😂... Go to A and E. GP'a are trained professionals and most notes are electronic so maybe that's why there is no letter.

Ambridgedweller · 26/10/2019 23:04

Why are you asking? Describe your symptoms to GP who advises go to A&E. Go to A&E!!

ThreeLittleDots · 26/10/2019 23:05

RTFT. OP went to A&E. Got sent home as GP was being ridiculous.

MigGril · 26/10/2019 23:25

Alpacathebag glad your ok but for further note, if you've had cyst on your ovaries before and still have your ovary. Then the first signs of problems again can present as a pissitant UTI.

I've had my ovary removed so no longer have the issue of it coming back. But if you haven't then I was told they often come back again on the same ovary. Wasn't till after I had numerous antibiotics for UTI that wasn't clearing, that the doctor looked at my history and decided they had better send me for a scan just to check. So just keep an eye on that one.

Ilovemypantry · 27/10/2019 00:41

Why are people still advising OP to go to A&E when she’s already been, sat for hours, come back home and updated everyone?

Bl3ss3dm0m · 27/10/2019 01:19

As a trained nurse, can I respectively ask if you ever saw an actual Dr at the hospital? Triage nurses are still nurses, and no-where near qualified enough to diagnose you, and whether or not you have anything seriously wrong with you. Did you have any blood tests or scans? Also going back to the GP that you saw originally, they are particularly trained on how firmly to palate your stomach region, and what is an appropriate response - your response may have indicated that you were more tender than would have been expected if nothing was wrong. If you only had a nurses word for it then you should not have discharged yourself. However if you also saw a Dr and had the results of blood tests that s/he would have ordered, and the Dr advised you to self discharge then you are probably fine. Again, however, under those circumstances I cannot see why the Dr wouldn't discharge you themself. I hope that you stay well.

Alpacathebag · 27/10/2019 08:09

@starlight465 I did question it. He said go anyway.

Not sure who said about the GP being cautious because of previous cyst, don't think he knew about that. He is a doctor at a walk in centre that I'd never seen before. My own GP sent me to to hospital on that occasion and I knew I was seriously ill that time. I am very prone to cysts and know the signs of one coming on, I've been crippled up with them a few times.

Anyway, I am still fine, better than I was on Friday. Temp gone, needing the loo a normal amount now. Managed to go to a big birthday party for a 100th birthday yesterday.

Thanks to everyone who responded normally and reasonably to my question about whether there was anything in my own instincts.

Glad you're ok, OP.

The WIC will have access to your Summary Care Record which shows your coded "problems" past and current. The GP there will have known about your medical history. In the region I work, urgent care clinicians can see the full medical record to ensure the best care can be provided. But, unless you have expressed dissent, the least the WIC will have is your SCR.

mrshousty · 27/10/2019 09:46

Go! What's the debate here? Might be a waste of time but what if its not?

PurpleDaisies · 27/10/2019 09:46

Not read the thread mrs?

LovelyIssues · 27/10/2019 13:11

could be sepsis or apoendix issues
