Wwyd, Dr wants me to go to a&e

I've been feeling a bit off colour for a few days, with a bit of a temperature, headachey, sore throat and needing to pee more frequently. Was pretty sure it was a UTI or possibly even a kidney infection, but also maybe a virus of one kind or the other.

Been to walk in centre this afternoon because I thought if it's a UTI I should get it checked really. Did the usual dip test, no infection apparent. Have got a bit of an ache in the kidney region and it was a bit sore when he pressed on my bladder and upper stomach (around the bra line) but otherwise nothing much else. My BP is fine and he recorded my temp as 37.1c (although my skin does feel warmer than usual)

He can't decide what's wrong with me so wants me to go to a&e. I don't think I need to, I don't feel THAT ill. Husband of the opinion I should go if GP said so.

Wwyd?

Please go it sounds like your GP may think you have something they have t seen before - what a great doctor

Justmuddlingalong · 25/10/2019 17:16

Wish I'd never fucking posted now.
So do I TBH. You asked for more advice on here and swore at those who bothered their arse replying. Stay classy OP. 🙄

nononever · 25/10/2019 17:16

I'm confused why this Dr says I'm more ill than I say I am

I went to GP with abdominal pain and he sent me to A&E even though I wasn't feeling unwell at that point. I ended up in emergency surgery after an ovarian cyst ruptured shortly after I was admitted and caused internal haemorrhaging. 5 units of blood and 2 weeks later I got home. Thank god I didn't swither about whether to go to hospital or not.

FFS...
OP : Should I take the advice of a qualified doctor?
MN : Yes
OP: Fuck off....

Yeah... odd day on MN...

Alpacathebag · 25/10/2019 17:18

@littlebillie are you suggesting I'm some sort of medical marvel with an as yet unknown illness? I like the sound of that.

Husband home from work in 20 mins, will see what he thinks when he reads the letter.

Just for the record, if I die overnight then all of you calling me a dithering idiot may rest soundly knowing you were right.

Alpacathebag · 25/10/2019 17:20

I mean tbh, it was a wwyd if the GP said this to you? And I got called a dithering idiot and it was implied I'm a candidate for a darwin award. So...

The doctor is simply covering his arse. He doesn't know what's wrong with you so if he tells you to go to A&E, he then passes the buck (and of course you notes will reflect that)

Whereas, of course, a really good doctor - faced with a patient who has an unknown cause of abdominal pain - tells her to go home and ignore it Hmm

OP, you are an idiot but I would still prefer you not to come to harm. Most serious abdominal conditions develop slowly but can suddenly deteriorate. That is why any responsible GP will refer new-onset abdominal pain or tenderness, unless she is sure the diagnosis is a non-serious one. You may well be fine, but you might be in the early stages of a serious condition. No one can tell without further tests - which is why you have been referred. Please go.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/10/2019 17:22

If your husband has medical training then yes. Wait for his opinion. If not...

Winteriscomingfast · 25/10/2019 17:22

I would ignore the doctor and post on mumsnet.

Because that it what a sensible adult would do (not)

TheQueef · 25/10/2019 17:22

And you are ill and still need to go to A&E Flowers I think the replies were harsh.

nocoolnamesleft · 25/10/2019 17:22

Okay, there are two options here.

Option one is that your GP is a competent doctor, and has correctly identified that you need to go to A&E. So you need to go to A&E.

Option two is that your GP is not a competent doctor. In which case you really need to go to A&E to be assessed by someone who knows what they're talking about. So you need to go to A&E.

Handily enough, both options lead to the same conclusion. Which makes it easy to know what to do. Go to A&E.

Ohdeariedear · 25/10/2019 17:22

P,ease go to A&E. my friend had a similar scenario, she went and it was Sepsis. She too ‘felt ok’ but she became much more ill very quickly and almost died. Do what the GP is telling you please.

NettleTea · 25/10/2019 17:23

My daughter had a kidney abscess. She felt fine. She went out on NYE and was OK. She was fine for 6 weeks between a stent being put in after kidney stone removal - all the time the abcess was building. She had no temperature, nothing.
She came back to hospital, stent removed, last stones removed, abcess discovered and drained. She still felt fine. She was kept in because she has other conditions which need monitoring after anaesthetic but they had no worries about her and in normal circumstances she would have been sent home.
She had tea, felt fine, slight headache.
4am she hit 42 degrees and was shivvering. We hit the emergency alarm and within 10 mins there were 4 ambulatory ICU staff who worked on her for the next 3 days to try to stabilise her as she was too sick to move her out of the cystic fibrosis unit and she had gone into septic shock. They told me she was the sickest person on the ward - including the rest of the geriatric respiratory people in there.
Infection can be really serious, especially in places where its close to the bloodstream which can allow it to develop into septacaemia. UTIs are also really prone to this, so if you have any kind of ache in the kidneys then they need to check it out. Not all UTIs show up on standard dip sticks

Lovemenorca · 25/10/2019 17:24

I just don’t get this

You bothered to go to walk in
You saw a GP
He advised you
Your DH would like you to follow the advice

But then you think “do you know what, I’ll park my bum and start a thread on mumsnet for their view on it”

What an absolute waste is that GP’s time

GoldLeafTree · 25/10/2019 17:25

What are a&e going to do for me? Say " Yes Mrs Alpaca, you have warm skin and a sore throat even though your core body temperature seems absolutely normal"

Stay at home and be ill then.

Lovemenorca · 25/10/2019 17:25

They told me she was the sickest person on the ward - including the rest of the geriatric respiratory people in there.

Sensitivity not their strong suit!

Oakmaiden · 25/10/2019 17:26

if I die overnight then all of you calling me a dithering idiot may rest soundly knowing you were right.

Will you let your husband know where the thread is, so he can let us know in that case?

GoldLeafTree · 25/10/2019 17:26

Also, if you really don't know what A+E would do, they'd do blood tests to try and find out what's wrong, you'd be examined and they'd treat you.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/10/2019 17:27

Go to A&E. You can tell them you don’t know why the GP has sent you if that makes you feel better about it. Don’t leave it too late or A&E will be stupidly busy with drunks on a Friday night.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 17:28

Look Op isn’t feeling great and is probably a bit fed up. Piling on like this is just childish and looks like bullying.

PurpleDaisies · 25/10/2019 17:28

So you’re not going then?

What was the point in wasting a gp appointment if you were going to ignore what they said?

moanyhole · 25/10/2019 17:29

It sounds like he felt something when he examined you. I'd go

midlifecrash · 25/10/2019 17:29

A thought. Really not trying to get at you Op but am concerned. Are you feeling normally grumpy due to replies, or sort of weirdly angry and bothered? Because that in itself can be a symptom of infection. A high-dwelling UTI is not always picked up by dip test. take care and get well soon

PurpleDaisies · 25/10/2019 17:29

Look Op isn’t feeling great and is probably a bit fed up.

Well yes. That doesn’t change the fact that they should be in a and e right now.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/10/2019 17:29

In your opinion.
