Tonsillitis, no food or drink for two days

Shoe throat started Saturday evening by Sunday I couldn't get out of bed. Last proper meal was Saturday eve since then all I've managed is some yoghurt and a mini milk lolly and about a glass of squash. Soluble paracetamol not helping any more, throat feels more and more swollen and I'd rather spit saliva than swallow it. Dragged muddled to the Dr this afternoon, who prescribed throat spray that didn't help much and I can't take the penicillin he gave me. Still have temperature and strong pins and needles feelings in my hands and legs. DH called 111 at 9.30pm and we're still waiting for a call back. Hungry, thirsty, tired and very sore. Feeling very sorry for myself. Never, ever felt this ill before.

Hope so MsFrosty! I feel ancient art the moment. Starting to pick up a bit though, so there's a glimmer of hope! I'm normally fit and healthy and I can power on through most things. But this has totally wiped me out. I look dreadful - haven't washed my hair since Sat am (normally do it every day) and haven't had the confidence to have a shower today, I'm quite wobbly. Hopefully I'll feel well enough to shower tomorrow and that'll pick me up a bit.

I used to get tonsillitis every 6 months or so for many years. I actually found drinking fresh orange juice helped me. I went 5 days once only drinking that before the penicillin finally kicked in. Has to be said it was a fantastic diet!

I echo the poster who mentioned sepsis. Ive had tonsillitis and it was not this bad at all.

I'm not sure I could cope with the acidity of orange juice, red. But the cold is appealing.

It took me two hours to really go downhill on Saturday. But wow, two hours after the Fruit Pastille lolly and I feel like a wilted flower that's been given a miracle cure! It is less painful to swallow (still hurts but nowhere near as bad), I managed to take the third set of penicillin without too much trouble, then an hour after the tablets I was desperate for something to eat and took myself downstairs to make a hot buttered crumpet with jam. I think I might have turned a corner! Fingers crossed I keep on this upwards trend overnight. Muscles in my legs feel very wobbly but hopefully some food tomorrow will remedy that.

To the pps who have mentioned sepsis, do you think this is less likely now that I'm starting to feel an improvement?

Woken up covered in sweat and feeling cold, but that's not completely out of character. Throat and ear really painful again. Trying another lolly to see if that helps. Disappointed, I thought I was on the up.
