Sent DH out to get strong white flour for bread making, he came back with plain flour.

I only use it for a roux sauce and occassional biscuit baking.

How am i going to use all this up! Xmas Confused

Just make lots of tasty Soda bread? You can make it in a loaf tine, in a round shape on a baking tray or shape it into rolls.

225 g plain flour
225 g wholewheat flour (or just use all plain flour)
1 teaspoon Bicarbonate of soda or bread soda
1 teaspoon salt
400 mls buttermilk

Method

Preheat oven to 220 degrees

  1. Mixed dry ingredients together in a bowl
  2. Make a well in the centre and add the buttermilk
  3. Make your hand into a claw and mix it together but don't overwork it.
  4. Turn onto a floured baking tray and shape
  5. Cut a deep cross in the centre of the bread to let the fairies out.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 220 degrees then reduce temperature to 180 degrees for 30 minutes. Tap on base to check it's cooked.

Add handful of seeds to dry ingredients
Sprinkle porridge oats on top and loosely press down using hand.

Makes 1 x 1lb loaf

Brownies use plain flour
If you have any baking powder and bicarbonate of soda you can make any cake with it
