I'm re watching them all on Netflix and I love it.Yes it's not PC but it was a wonderfully subtle look at "normal" Northern working class family life.Liz smith who played Nana was brilliant.Anyone else a fan?

Ooh yes. Loved it. So true to life.

I love it.
I also started watching it again on Netflix. It just one of those shows that makes you feel happy.

MashedSpud · 18/10/2019 10:29

I love it.

Nana saying “Michael Crawford”, Barb always asking what people had for their tea, Jim giving funny looks and saying “My arse” and Anthony being treated like a slave.

MissDew · 18/10/2019 10:31

Did your mum make gravy ?

No.

Don't blame her, it's nearly Summer.

Comedy gold it really was. Well, the first series anyway. The others weren't as good.

Now....how are you fixed for your denim ?

How's your new girlfriend, Twiggy ? We split up, she was a bit of a bike, you know.

I thought you liked that.

You don't want everybody having a go.

Caroline Aherne was so brilliant

LemonGingerCakes · 18/10/2019 10:33

I used to hate it - too real and close to home...

Now the years have past, I can enjoy it!

Lilopup · 18/10/2019 10:33

Me and DP rewatched them all the other week, they're brilliant. There's a couple of episodes that are real tear jerkers though! The one when Denise is in labour with baby David in the bathroom with her dad gets me every time Sad

MissDew · 18/10/2019 10:33

Episode of Millionare on t.v. Jim answers, 'Horses Arse' in a posh voice for all the answers to one of the questions.

Another question regards ethanol. Denise chimes in with, 'ooh, I've never had that.'

Funny, yes but I probably grew up in a house not unlike that or knew people who were so close to that it was untrue !

MadisonAvenue · 18/10/2019 10:34

I love it and rewatch often, it's still just as funny as the first time.

It's 21 years since it first aired!

There's a blouse that Denise wears in the first series and I remember having one the same, from New Look 😂

PumpkinKing · 18/10/2019 10:50

Had no idea it was on Netflix. I love it. Agree with Lilopup. That episode where Denise is in labour leaves me an emotional wreck every time I watch it. I love the "Mambo No.5" DIY episode.

They had soup of the day...which was Friday Grin

Bezalelle · 18/10/2019 10:56

"Don't worry about me, Barb. I'll eat any old shite!"

My dad and I always say this to my mum when she's dishing up dinner!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/10/2019 10:59

You're going to have to change the baby's arse sometime Denise "no way it smells of shite"

Same, and just before they head out to her wedding too.

BellaBellaBelle · 18/10/2019 11:01

I’ve recently started rewatching too, absolutely brilliant.

‘I paid a pound for these pants and 50p of them are up me arse!’

mynameisMrG · 18/10/2019 11:04

Love this programme! One I can watch over and over and never get bored. Always in tears when Denise and Jim are on the bathroom floor when her waters break. My favourite episode has to be ‘the new sofa’ though when we meet Dave’s parents at Christmas. ‘Merry Christmas Bar-ber-ra!’

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/10/2019 11:06

Just watching the decorating one where they all dancing to mambo number 5 Grin

A boob job and a Dyson.

That series and Dinner ladies with VW are some of the best written comedies in existence.

Superb.

Cassimin · 18/10/2019 11:13

Royle family and Phoenix nights are always our go tos if we’re sitting round the telly and fancy a laugh.
I was in hospital when the 2nd episode was on. We were watching the tv on the ward and I said shall we watch it. The other patients thought it was about the royal family and pulled faces, couldn’t stop laughing when they watched it.

Rubychard · 18/10/2019 11:15

“Denise, are you sure you didn’t just have a very big piss?”

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/10/2019 11:18

When Darren is seeing a woman who looks like Tina Turner and twiggy and Jim start singing Private Dancer at himGrin
