What are my neighbours called? Aargh!

I have lovely neighbours, couple of doors down.
We chat, have walked through the park, talked about issues with grandchildren etc.
They will soon be doing me a huge favour, feeding cat and watering plants, taking in parcels etc, which involves me leaving written instructions?
I need to leave a card and wine, I cannot omit their names!

I cannot remember their names, I just cannot!
Short of mugging the postwoman, what can I do?

Hi OP, I live the other side, they’re called Penelope and Farquhar.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/10/2019 00:41

Tom and Barbara, surely?
Well, applying logic, they’d be the ones with the animals so the neighbours must be Margot and Jerry.

I'm going to hazard a guess at Mrs Mangle and Bouncer. OP, Now might be a really good time to consider doing a sponsored run/silence/parachute jump or similar. Then if you wanted to ask your neighbors to sponsor you too, and they agree, they would have to fill in the form with their full name etc. win win - plus you raise money for charity. Or you could offer to set up/update the streets' Neighbourhood Watch Scheme contact details? Or you could just come clean and say you have forgotten their name?! I'm sure it wouldn't be as cringe as you might imagine - if they are as kind as they sound for helping you out, I'm sure they'd be kind enough to understand that we are not all blessed with infallible Superbrains. After all, "that's when good Neighbours become good friends. " amiright?

HistoriaTrixie · 14/10/2019 02:16

Brian and Cath? Kevin and LeeAnne?

100PercentThatBitch · 14/10/2019 02:32

Can you look up their street address on 192 and get their names off electoral roll?

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/10/2019 02:45

Just came to say OP, I got this wrong recently (was in a very similar boat) - they sent a note of acknowledgment back with the correct names underlined and circled and I am never leaving the house again for fear of seeing them. I got one right and spelled it incorrectly, got the other one totally wrong Blush.

I'd just skip names and write the message, and address to 'number whatever'.

Do you have children? Get them to ask them. Could be that they are innocently playing ball outside, or even that you are with them and they interrupt your conversion with Sue or Dave to chirrup "What's your name?" Your neighbours will indulge them while you trill a little laugh at their impertinence.

I employed this stategy with my kids for years and it worked every time.

If you don't have kids, borrow some.

'Hello lovely neighbours'

My neighbour does this. Pretty sure she knows my name, not least because we work together!

I bet one of them is called Vicky Vikki Vicci Vicki. I know loads.

spiderlight · 14/10/2019 08:46

@RiftGibbon - our neighbours are Jane and Jon, Jo and Jason, and Justin and Gina. Gina has let the side down by not changing her spelling to Jina though!

tectonicplates · 14/10/2019 11:21

Google their address. You never know what might come up, especially if they've ever run a small business from home.

CloudPop · 14/10/2019 11:32

Engineer bumping into them with a friend of yours that they have never met. Get friend to enthusiastically introduce themselves, thereby causing neighbours to do the same.

itreallyisanicefence · 14/10/2019 18:37

Pauline and Derek

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/10/2019 18:46

Jasmine

It's bound to be one of the above mentioned names. In our street these are all duplicate names.

SuperMeerkat · 14/10/2019 18:55

Nigel and Christine

KindergartenKop · 14/10/2019 20:34

Ask for their autographs.

janj2301 · 14/10/2019 20:49

If you use the library have a look at the electoral register, they might be listed on that

Millie2013 · 14/10/2019 20:54

Our neighbours call us Janet and John
We are not called Janet and John. I’ve no idea how this came about Grin

Longtalljosie · 14/10/2019 21:03

Just begin the note with “thank you do much for feeding Tiddles and looking after the house!”

BikeRunSki · 14/10/2019 21:06

My SIL has a lecturer who asked”and how do you spell your surname again?” when he didn’t know. “ S M Y T H” she replied, “how else Wink?”

Smidge001 · 15/10/2019 00:07
