What are my neighbours called? Aargh!

I have lovely neighbours, couple of doors down.
We chat, have walked through the park, talked about issues with grandchildren etc.
They will soon be doing me a huge favour, feeding cat and watering plants, taking in parcels etc, which involves me leaving written instructions?
I need to leave a card and wine, I cannot omit their names!

I cannot remember their names, I just cannot!
Short of mugging the postwoman, what can I do?

Electoral roll search.

Saved me last Christmas!

At school, I had to ask someone how she spelled her name because I didn't know which identical twin I'd been hanging out with. She was the the twin I knew better, but I couldn't tell them apart.
Luckily, both their names were extremely unusual (I've never even heard of anyone called either name since) so it was plausible I might not know how to spell them and I got away with it.

ClemDanFango · 13/10/2019 16:26

Nitro and Oxana

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 13/10/2019 16:33

Bill and Caroline. Definitely.

VenusTiger · 13/10/2019 16:39

Ring them and when someone answers say “oh, sorry, I think I’ve misdialled, who’s this please?....” then say it’s earthymama and tell them you’ve pressed the wrong “Clare” (or whatever they say their name is) in your phone... then say, “I’m so foggy brained Clare, I’ll add your partners name into the phone so I know it’s you next time, how does he spell his name?”

If they own the property, buy the title deeds from Land Registry for £3

ScreamingValenta · 13/10/2019 16:53

Apparently the most common names in England overall are 'David' and 'Susan' - so you could try those Grin.

For more accurate theorising, if you know roughly how old they are, you could try the most popular baby names for their era of birth. Grin Grin

Envelope with just "Thank you!" written on it (totes appropriate as it will be propped up on the bottle of wine), and start the instructions "Please let me start by saying how grateful we are..." or "Thank you so much for helping us with Tiddles and the plants this week....."

I'm not sure why you need their names at all? I don't think I'd use them in these circumstances even if I knew them!

GoodDogBellaBoo · 13/10/2019 16:56

When you are out walking with them make sure to bump into a friend, and let them introduce each other!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/10/2019 17:00

My neighbour mispronounced my name . Cara, she pronounces it cora

I've written it down for her with my phone number, she now has me on fb too and still does it

Her dcs got it right but she must of corrected them at some point as they do the same now

Unhelpful sorry

BiMum5 · 13/10/2019 17:03

I had this with lovely neighbours and when I got the chance I asked another neighbour who did know.

That's going a bit far for a thank you card! Grin

BalloonSlayer · 13/10/2019 19:13

As someone else suggested, make the thank you from the cat.

"To the humans who were kind enough to attend to my needs when my servants inexplicably deserted me. With much appreciation, Moggy McMogface"

itreallyisanicefence · 13/10/2019 19:34

If we're just going to guess I'm saying Barbara and Ted

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 13/10/2019 19:44

Venezuela and Balonz are my guesses.

But that's not of any help, sorry. (But there are some good suggestions elsewhere on the thread.)

ElloBrian · 13/10/2019 19:49

Tom and Barbara, surely?

Djimino · 13/10/2019 23:44

It's Karen and Bob I think.

Try 192.com

EskewedBeef · 13/10/2019 23:52

I think looking for them on Facebook as friends of friends or 'people you may know' might work. Do you have their mobile number and could connect with them on WhatsApp? You could send them a vague question - it would display their name in the reply.

EskewedBeef · 13/10/2019 23:53

I think it's Gareth and Sue, by the way. The Milky Bars are on me if I'm right.

Smidge001 · 13/10/2019 23:56

Geoffrey and Ann.

LarkDescending · 14/10/2019 00:18

Clive and Monica.

Nokeysnoentry · 14/10/2019 00:23

William and Catherine.

frogsoup · 14/10/2019 00:27

'Hello lovely neighbours'

I use this for notes to my neighbours even though I know their names, it just sounds friendly Grin

RiftGibbon · 14/10/2019 00:29

Be easy if you lived where I do, OP. Next door one side are Brian and Jane Smith*. Directly opposite are Brian and Jane Harper. Until very recently next door the other side were Paul and Jane. They've moved just around the corner. Three doors down are Barbara and Colin. Next door but one to them are Alice and Colm.

*None of these are their actual names but the names do replicate like this.

ThighThighOfthigh · 14/10/2019 00:34

You could wait till bin day and go through their rubbish Wink
