Shark vs Dyson: what should I get?

Ahundredpercentthatbitch · 05/10/2019 14:23

I’m in the market for a new vacuum. I want one that is cordless and I don’t have to lug up the stairs and put my back out.

Dyson is the obvious choice but I’ve heard great things about the Shark. I don’t trust online reviews but I definitely trust MN.

Apologies for the dull thread but, help me pick my vacuum?

Was on watchdog last night.
Shark.

TheQueef · 05/10/2019 14:25

They did a user test it'll be on iPlayer.

Ahundredpercentthatbitch · 05/10/2019 14:26

Oh great timing! Will check it out.

Aye perfect timing.
Was interesting to see shark win but Dyson be the best vac.

BlueLines · 05/10/2019 14:27

Shark Liftaway.

I've had a couple of Dysons, when it broke I got a shark. I wish I'd got a Dyson 😔 and even though the shark was £260 and is only 6 months old I may just get another dyson

lavalampy · 05/10/2019 14:30

On Watchdog I think Dyson was the best in terms of suction and performance, but the three families testing all preferred the Shark

TheSandman · 05/10/2019 14:32

The only Dyson I had look great, dead stylish but was an awful vacuum cleaner.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 05/10/2019 14:33

I've got a shark. It's very good for what I need. I dont think I could justify the difference in price.

ChasingRainbows19 · 05/10/2019 14:33

I've a shark cordless a cheaper one in Argos it was about £180 we love it! No kids or pets and just two of us so it's more than enough for our needs, two years later it's fine!

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2019 14:33

Shark, every time. I have a Vax at the moment but my next one will be a Shark.

ImpeachTrump · 05/10/2019 14:35

I would highly recommend a Shark liftaway. It's not cordless but because of the lift away feature it is extremely light to carry upstairs.

I've had Dysons for over twenty years. I got fed up of them losing suction (despite all the advertising to the contrary!) I got a Shark last year and love it. The only negative I can say about them is that they have a tendency to fall over easily when you are using the hose but other than that they are fantastic.

Bloomburger · 05/10/2019 14:39

Sebo Felix, better than shark and fusion.

Bloomburger · 05/10/2019 14:40

Dyson not Fusion

Why did they prefer it? Was it just to do with price?

Shark Liftaway. I have a very large muddy long haired dog (that is about the best description of him you can get - border collie is the other one) and the Shark cleans perfectly after him. The very expensive Dyson Animal didn't even lift the dog hair!

charliesweb · 05/10/2019 14:46

We've got 2 dogs and 3 cats. We've always had Dysons but last May got a Shark. I love it and will never go back.

cutebutscary · 05/10/2019 14:46

Shark - amazing suction and very easy to clean

DotBall · 05/10/2019 14:47

Shark.

EauDeResistance · 05/10/2019 14:47

Shark Liftaway

BenWillbondsPants · 05/10/2019 14:50

Have always had Dysons but last one was rubbish so changed to Shark Liftaway. It's a million times better.

Hereshopingforimprovement · 05/10/2019 14:52

We love our shark. It's not cordless but has a very long cord. We got it on a deal last Christmas for £120.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 05/10/2019 15:27

Another vote for Shark lift away. I've had Dysons for years and years but the Shark is much better. Also lighter and easier for vacuuming stairs.

PancakeAndKeith · 05/10/2019 15:30

I’ve got a Shark cordless. Very happy with it.

Rafflesway · 05/10/2019 15:34

Shark now do a cordless version of the Liftaway.

I have had mine for exactly one year - fabulous! Battery charge gives 50 minute run time. Machine guaranteed for 5 years and battery guarantee 2 years. 😁

If you have stairs you need the True Pet version as this comes with a small motorised head which is great for the stairs.

Dyson, I found to my cost, expensive and unreliable. Never again!
