Shark vs Dyson: what should I get?

I’m in the market for a new vacuum. I want one that is cordless and I don’t have to lug up the stairs and put my back out.

Dyson is the obvious choice but I’ve heard great things about the Shark. I don’t trust online reviews but I definitely trust MN.

Apologies for the dull thread but, help me pick my vacuum?

Shark cordless is brilliant

My mum has a Dyson. Has used my shark and now wants a shark!

The suction and cleaning performance is brilliant

I seem to be the only person on these threads who replaced my 10 year old Dyson with a shark lift way and hate it!!

The hose blocks easily and is pain to unblock as it has fixed curved ends so you can't stick anything straight like a coat hanger down it, we end up using the pressure washer, then can't use the vacuum for days until the hose has fully dried inside. The filter needs washed regularly to keep up suction (I think I only had to clean my dyson filter twice in 10 years!), and the bloody thing wont stay upright while using tools.

We've always had Dyson's, but they're not very good anymore and suction is poor. We got a Shark Liftaway a couple of weeks ago and am pleased with it so far.

The Dysons really do need to address the performance of their machines now. We've had a couple of truly ropey ones which were utterly pathetic in terms of cleaning.

@BrokenWing I have the cordless stick.... I've never blocked it and I have 2 dogs 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it's a problem with the liftaway model?

Sebo?

I have shark only recently purchased and delighted. With it

Brokenwing I would contact Shark as that sounds like a fault to me.

My Liftaway developed a slight squeak after a couple of months so I contacted them. They were brilliant and sent me a complete new bottom section and head within 24 hours.

No more squeaking since. 😁
