SPOILER ALERT

ET: The bathroom scene, where ET and Elliot are on the floor and Elliot gets taken away, with ET screaming for him to come back 😢😢 And of course when ET is found all grey and dying in the water, then when he temporarily dies and obviously the ending 😭

Forest Gump: When nobody lets young Forest sit down on the bus and then he sees Jenny for the first time 😥 When Jenny dies "Every night we read a book and he's so smart Jenny. You'd be so proud of him" 😭😭😭

Atonement: The ending, when Bryony explains the reality 😢

Theory of Everything: The croquet scene. There's no dialogue, but it's heart breaking. When Stephen has had his operation and can no longer talk. The look they give one another 💔 Also when Jane breaks up with Stephen "I have loved you. I did my best" and he just looks broken and they cry together 😢

The Reader: When Michael sees Hannah in court and realises she's actually illiterate after she refuses to give a sample of her hand writing and then her sentence. When Hannah hears Michael's voice on the recorder and of course the ending 😭😭😭

I have so many more, including Disney and Pixar Blush but I'd be here all day!

Over to you...

We watched Deep Impact the other night and I was crying my eyes out. When all the astronauts are saying goodbye to their families before saving the world by killing them selves. And when Elijah Wood's girlfriend's parents give her the baby to save. 😭😭😭

The new Cinderella film (not the cartoon) when the mum is dying. My little girl 4 looked up at me and screamed “mummy, mummy, mummy” and started crying. I was then crying too whilst trying to comfort her! it was awful and I felt terrible but I made her keep watching as didn’t want it to traumatise her. Luckily she kept watching and did enjoy the film (I panicked when we got near the dads death but warned her before and she was ok)

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/10/2019 14:21

dodge thanks, I was going to watch the new Cinderella but I'm glad I didn't now because I wouldn't have coped. These threads are so helpful, they should come with a public information announcement that if you are grieving these are films to avoid. I can watch sad, but dads dying is too close to home.

This scene from the wonder years.

Wart has been in Vietnam, Wayne finds him sitting with no clothes on. Wart says his clothes don't fit any more and Wayne says "wear mine".

Such a powerful scene

Catnuzzle · 05/10/2019 16:45

Daddy my daddy
The wind up of the last episode of the wonder years when he says his dad died
Beaches
Gladiator
And much to the amusement of my children, the animated short film that was shown before Inside Out, Someone to Lava, where the volcano is lonely and is singing. Every single time.

Yutes · 05/10/2019 16:47

When Marshall’s dad dies in How I Met Your Mother.

On Extras when Andy Millman is in the Big Brother House and he’s apologising to his friend.

Corrag · 05/10/2019 17:19

The car scene from The Sixth Sense, when Cole says his grandma visits him sometimes...

Ceebeegee · 05/10/2019 18:20

@bespokepaininthearse I remember watching Fast and Furious 7 at the cinema and sobbing at the end beach scene to say goodbye to Paul Walker :(

Also the Pianist - the scene with the train and he escapes and walks back to the Ghetto

Planes, Trains and Automobiles when Steve Martin realises that John Candy is all alone and brings him back to his home.

Cold Feet when Helen Baxendale dies.

Corrie, when Ashley's wife Claire dies.

Most of Space Cowboys, it does have a sad ending but it mainly makes me cry because my mum cries

Usualy Pride of Britain makes me cry

Contraceptionismyfriend · 05/10/2019 18:49

Remember the Titans is on Sky Drama 🙈

Dramaofallama · 05/10/2019 18:52

The green mile: the ending gets me every time.

The Fox and the hound: when she takes him back to the woods, it got me as a child and still does now as an adult.

The pianist: the elderly man in the wheelchair scene, with the balcony. That scene haunts me.

SinkGirl · 05/10/2019 19:13

I can’t believe Somewhere In Time hasn’t been mentioned. I won’t spoil it as I’m sure many haven’t seen it - it’s rather dated now but I’ve never seen anything that’s ripped my heart out through my bum as easily as that film. I still can’t watch it!

Did anyone see the mini series with Nicole Kidman called Bangkok Hilton? So heartbreaking.

The first run of Skins where one of the main characters dies - that really got to me. And 12 Days Of Christine.

I also watched The Book Thief with my mum when she was having chemo, and I remember the end of that really upset me but I have blocked it out.

Quaffy · 05/10/2019 19:34

About to watch About Time because of the mentions on this thread - I’ve got the tissues handy...

Pannalash · 05/10/2019 19:38

Damon being murdered in Brookside.

AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 05/10/2019 21:09

Lion is heartbreaking!
Miss You Already
Every single death in Grey's Anatomy
Armageddon
Wonder

The handmaids tale- especially when the 50 girls get to Canada. Luke looks for Hannah and she's not on the plane and the other little girl finds her dad. I sobbed like a baby.

Blueberrycreampie · 05/10/2019 21:15

Imitation of Life with Rita Hayworth ( think there was a remake) but no where near as good. Out of Africa, wasn't prepared for the emotional wringing out.

Blueberrycreampie · 05/10/2019 21:18

Sorry just remembered it was Lana Turner not Rita Hayworth oops!

EspressoX10 · 05/10/2019 21:26

Life is Beautiful.

The goose step with a smile! I just can't handle it.

OctopusNow · 05/10/2019 21:29

Goose dies in Topgun.

Gamorasgran · 05/10/2019 22:13

Daddy my daddy (I too have list my daddy this year and it's made me get very teary just reading this thread

Sibyl in Downton - the bit when Tom and Cora carry on trying to get her to wake up.

My mother cried at the wedding in the sound of music in the cinema. My dad had taken her for their second date and I understand was so disgusted it's a wonder I'm here at all.

Schindler's list when it is just a shower. The tension was unbearable.

Buffy - the body.

I am quite a weeper. If I'm in the right mood the letter in Persuasion can make me go (ciaran hinds/Amanda riot version obvs)

Hepzibar · 05/10/2019 22:18

"Houston, this is Odessy" Apollo 13 after 4 minutes re-entry. Sob.

Field of dreams, the end "No Ray, it was you" and the most heart wrenching "hey dad, wanna play catch".

White Christmas, Christmas Eve Bob Wallace message, and then the General going to dinner - "We'll follow the old boy" and then it snows! Sob fest.

As many have said the sublime Emma Thompson's Bedroom scene, smoothing the bed linen, dabbing her tears, betrayed and putting on a brave face, whilst Joni Mitchell plays. Utterly heartbreaking.

It's a Wonderful Life - no words - can cry just thinking about it

Ffsnosexallowed · 05/10/2019 22:20

That scene in Sophie's choice. Heartbreaking

Ginger1982 · 05/10/2019 22:53

The scene in the miniseries 'Holocaust' when Mrs Weiss is taken into the gas chamber with a bunch of others and is reassuring a young woman and her baby that it's 'only a shower' even though she knows the truth and then says 'goodbye Joseph' to her husband who doesn't know she's been taken there and then the screen goes black. 😢

Heartofglass12345 · 05/10/2019 23:13

Heartofglass12345 · 05/10/2019 23:14

Oh my god I forgot about the horse in never ending story Sad

Heartofglass12345 · 05/10/2019 23:18

And the green mile. I basically can't watch anything without crying lol.
I think my 3 year old son has inherited it to be honest, he cried at angry birds 2 because the red bird had no friends in the past, and at Charlie and the chocolate factory when Augustus got sucked up the pipe. Bless him Blush
