How often do you take your kids away including weekends and one night at stays?

We don't tend to do weekends or one night stays away, but generally squeeze in 2 holidays, one in a half term and one in summer holidays.

How about you?

Chocolateandcarbs · 04/10/2019 12:21

We stay with grandparents (just 1 night at the weekend usually) maybe 3 or 4 times a year and last year we have 2 mini breaks (4 nights) and a 2 week holiday abroad.

SuzieBishop · 04/10/2019 12:21

We try to do a couple of holidays a year - one week in a caravan somewhere and another week visiting family in England (we’re in Scotland.)
We also try and do a long weekend with friends or family somewhere with a hot tub a couple of times a year.
We’re saving up for an abroad holiday in 2021 as we can only realty afford that every 2 years.
My husband and I also try and get away a couple of times a year for a night away from the kids!!

Some years not at all, some years a few times. This year we'll have done a week's camping and a weekend away - might do Christmas too.

LoonyLunaLoo · 04/10/2019 12:26

2 holidays abroad, possibly a week in PILs caravan in Wales and a couple of UK weekends.l for events.

inwood · 04/10/2019 12:27

Three weeks in summer and then a few nights at October half term plus random one night stays.

BareBelliedSneetch · 04/10/2019 12:28

One two week summer holiday, and one, maybe two weekend breaks a year. As they get older we hope to do more camping weekends.

Figgygal · 04/10/2019 12:30

We live at other end of country from my family so tend to fly there 4/5 times a year

We tend to then do couple of weekends somewhere (Devon/wales) and maybe a longer trip 4 or 7 nights

All in this country as we have £1000 childcare bills and those Flights to Scotland steal time and money

I like doing more things more often than 1 expensive holiday a year and when we went to Portugal in 2017 my kids proved to not love the heat so not bothered about going oversees for now

elQuintoConyo · 04/10/2019 12:31

We did a week in France at a friend's house at easter, a 4-night camping trip just DH and DS in July, a 3-night camping trip all of us in August, and we'll be in the UK for a week at Christmas. DS also did his first residential trip this year, 3 nights away. Oh and two weeks ago we did 3 nights in a small apartment in a medieval hamlet in the Pyrenees, lots of hiking and waterfalls.
DS is 8yo, we're in Spain, holiday dates are a little different. Plus France and Pyrenees are 3-4 hours away.

WWlOOlWW · 04/10/2019 12:34

This year it has only been once, but that way for a months. Usually it's about 5 times x2 week holidays and a few weekend breaks.

ShadowSardines · 04/10/2019 12:36

How often do you take yours away, OP?

spiderlight · 04/10/2019 12:40

Our DS competes at a sport that has tournaments all over the country, so from September until about May we go away about once a month (sometimes all of us, sometimes just him and DH). We try to combine each competition with something fun in that part of the country, so it's less of a slog. Then we have a week's 'proper' holiday in the summer, maybe one or two other weekends away just for fun, and he has a week at the seaside with his grandparents every summer.

VenusClapTrap · 04/10/2019 12:56

Last year we found we’d ended up booking so many trips that we were away every month of the year bar two. We went somewhere every school hols, plus a number of weekends. It was completely ridiculous both in terms of carbon footprint and logistics - the kids didn’t know whether they were coming or going, and the poor cat was mightily pissed off with us.

So this year we cut it down drastically to five. Two of those are visiting in-laws who live on mainland Europe. The cat still feels this is excessive.

IdblowJonSnow · 04/10/2019 12:58

2 or 3 x inc. a week abroad or in UK over the summer. A few nights in a hotel here or there if we're visiting seaside or friends somewhere where they can't put us up.

Titsywoo · 04/10/2019 13:00

Not a huge amount due to the costs of going away and the fact that it upsets our elderly dog. We do one week in the summer holidays as a family, me and the DC go camping with friends in the summer for 3 or 4 nights and then we try to get away at Easter for 5 days as a family.

CarolDanvers · 04/10/2019 13:00

Two holidays a year. Three or four weekends away to see family or to go and look after my SIL's children for the night. Maybe squeeze in a weekend at Center Parcs next year too.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 04/10/2019 13:16

This year we've had 2 holidays
5 weekends at grandparent
4 weekends at other friends/ family
3 weekend trips away to theme parks

GymNovice · 04/10/2019 13:19

2x holiday (1 week each time)
usually 3x over night at IL's but this year only twice.

Bloodycats · 04/10/2019 13:24

Hardly ever. Once a year camping.

It’s more trouble than it’s worth with my children.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 04/10/2019 13:50

What about this for big box Thomas

Somebodystired · 04/10/2019 14:28

Four or five times a year. A week away at Easter, a week in October half term, and usually twice over the summer to stay with friends in other parts of the country. All in the UK.

Occasionally France for a weekend to see FIL too.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 04/10/2019 17:15

Thanks everyone.

It varies with us, so I was just being nosey as to what others do Grin

We go abroad twice a year. Butlins once a year and another week away in the UK.

Then maybe the odd night or 2 somewhere. We are going to London next year for a weekend.

Hoppinggreen · 04/10/2019 17:24

Most school holidays
We do at least a long weekend in The UK but go abroad 4 or 5 times a year

DinosApple · 04/10/2019 17:32

Varies too.
