What time do your 8/9 year olds go to bed?

On a school night that is. Ds is almost 9, year 4, and I'm wondering about average bedtimes.

Mine goes to sleep between 9.30 and 10, but we all go upstairs to read at about 8ish.

Whathappenedtothelego · 02/10/2019 19:13

Lights off between 8.30 and 8.45 for my Year 4.
Though some days she has to come along to pick her sister up from her clubs/activities and we don't get back until after 9.
She gets up at 7 on school days, but will sleep until 8 at the weekend.

MillieMoodle · 02/10/2019 19:28

DS1 is 8y7m and bedtime varies. We aim to get him upstairs between 7-7.30 but he's often not in bed until 8-8.30. He's later to bed on a Friday, as he has football training until 7.30 and we sometime stay at the football club until late. He usually gets up between 6.30 and 7am in the week, a bit later at the weekend. He's ok with the odd late night but couldn't do 9pm more than a couple of nights in a row without being very grumpy!

DD and DS 8+9.
Up to bed to read 8:30. Mess around until around 9:30 when DD falls asleep. DS asleep by 10ish

ahsbackagain · 02/10/2019 19:41

Up to bed at 8, lights out at 8.30.

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/10/2019 19:44

My 9yo, year 5 DD goes up to bed at 8 ish, but then does reading, I read a story to her (longer, more difficult novels than she can currently manage by herself). Then she listens to a guided meditation. So lights off at about 9.

raspberryk · 02/10/2019 19:46

7-7.30 by 7 if it's been a long day eg 7.30am at breakfast club til 6pm at teatime. 8 if it's a swimming night.

teatimedreamer · 02/10/2019 19:47

Mine is in the bath about 7.15 (I know he doesn't need one every day but he's autistic and he likes it 😂), reads for 20 minutes and then lights out just after 8.

He's an early riser around 6-6.30 regardless of what time he goes to bed so he really needs to be asleep by 8.30 at the latest. Sometimes he's really tired and skips reading so he can go straight to sleep.

Laura221 · 02/10/2019 19:51

This is really interesting, my 8 year old is in bed for 8pm except brownie nights. She reads for 10 mins or so then goes to sleep and gets up at 6am. I though she went to bed quite late but I may push it to 8.30 in the hope she will sleep in later (wishful thinking)

DaanSaaf · 02/10/2019 20:32

I'll be honest, these are earlier than I expected. I'd sort of agreed to move to 9pm after his birthday next month but I'm reluctant now.

My 9yo's just gone up now. She'll more than likely sing herself a few songs (she's into musicals at the mo so has been blasting out songs from Beetlejuice & Six), nip for another wee, and then snuggle up to sleep by 9pm.

She gets up anywhere between 6:30 - 7 am on a morning.

Weekends she stays up 'til 10pm ish, when I head to bed, and sleeps until maybe 10am unless we're off out.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 02/10/2019 20:39

10 and 9 year olds brushing teeth now

13 and 14 year olds will be brushing and going around 9:30-10

LadyOfTheFlowers · 02/10/2019 20:40

For both sets this can vary slightly depending wether or not they are being annoying Grin

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 02/10/2019 20:41

8/8.30 depending on how tired she is.

cliffdiver · 02/10/2019 20:44

DD2 is 8 next month and goes to bed at 6.45 BlushShe then reads for 15 minutes, so lights out by 7pm.

DH says we should try a later bedtime, but she has to get up at 7am for school and seems to need to sleep for 12 hours.

DialANumber · 02/10/2019 20:49

It is largely dictated to by activities and having to collect siblings etc but in general 7pm earliest, 8.30 latest. She's always tired and if life allowed I think would happily go to bed at 7 every night.

MoeGreenSpecial · 02/10/2019 20:50

My 9 year old is in bed by 8.15, asleep by 8.30.

tweedledeedo · 02/10/2019 20:51

6.45! He's allowed to read for 15 minutes. Gets up around 6.30/7

SallyWD · 02/10/2019 20:54

My DD is 8 nearly 9 too. We aim for 8pm but its usually 8.30. She wakes up around 6.30 and thus seems to be enough sleep for her.

GooseFeather · 02/10/2019 21:05

DS9.5 is currently reading. I will go up and put his light out shortly. He will be up at 7 as he is at school for 8.

We don't get in from school until 6.30pm, earlier just would not happen.

happycamper11 · 02/10/2019 21:05

9 year old is just getting out the shower now as didn't get home from brownies til 8, she was hungry and is a staller. 9pm is about average

happycamper11 · 02/10/2019 21:06

She's probably a year older than your dd though- 10 in December

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 02/10/2019 21:08

DS just turned 8 (year 4) goes up at 8. Lights are supposed to be out at 8.30 but he messes about after that.

He is autistic though and doesn't seem to need much sleep. He is never asleep before 9.30, often later.

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/10/2019 21:19

DD 8 bed between 9 and 10, asleep between 10:30 and 12, wakes at 8 (plenty of time for leaving at school at 8:45)

LER83 · 02/10/2019 21:29

Ds is 9, up to bed about 8pm then reads until about 8.30. He struggles any later then this, can do the odd late night but not regularly. He is up at 6am regardless of bedtime. Dd is 7, she goes up to read at 8pm same as her brother, but is still awake at 10/10.30. She gets up between 7&7.30am.
