What age do you consider over the hill?

I was thinking 50?

OP posts:
Ansi12 · 01/10/2019 11:25

Well that’s depressed me -I am 61- I think over the hill is in your 90s and then only when your quality of life is not what you want x

Oldbutstillgotit · 01/10/2019 11:27

I am 65 and nowhere over the hill ! Just been to yoga , meeting friends for lunch and pub quiz tonight !! Fortunately my health is fine. I think 90+ might be more accurate ( except for HM!)

TheAlternativeTentacle · 01/10/2019 11:29

It's about 10 years older than you are at any age.

50? How fucking rude are you?

RatherBeRiding · 01/10/2019 11:31

Over the hill for what, though?

I'm in my 60s. Work full time, ride my ponies, walk my dogs, do my garden, have an active and very fulfilling sex-life with my slightly younger DP.

No I can't do certain activities anymore (knackered knees so no marathons!) but I have my own teeth and hair and am still a size 8/10.

So, no, I do not consider myself even in the foothills, let alone over the damn thing!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/10/2019 11:33

I’d agree with Ansi I’d say after your mid 90’s, because you are on the last stretch by then. That’s not to say that there aren’t people 95+ still living their lives how they want but I think it’s when things are more likely to decline, possibly rapidly. That’s from experience with family members that have made it to that age though.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/10/2019 11:34

I feel I should add, I’m 30.

AutumnRose1 · 01/10/2019 11:34

Over the hill meaning what exactly?

Bluntness100 · 01/10/2019 11:35

Over the hill for what?

I'm fifty, I'm in the gym most days, I work, I have an active social life.

What exactly am I over the hill for. Genuine question.

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2019 11:35

Sure 50 is dried up and pretty ancient isn't it ? life is practically over Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 01/10/2019 11:37

It depends in what context.

Why are you asking?

GrimalkinsCrone · 01/10/2019 11:37

For me, it’s not linked to an age but to a mindset.
Define what you mean by ‘Over the hill’ if you want a discussion, rather than just being an offensive CF. I’m 60, and I’m often over the hills and far away.

Soola · 01/10/2019 11:37

I’m 53 and looks wise I am certainly not over the hill, thank you very much!

I think you become over the hill when your health falters.

I know plenty of vibrant people in their 60s, 70s and beyond.

AuntieMarys · 01/10/2019 11:38

Fuck off.

notacooldad · 01/10/2019 11:38

Sure this post shouldn't have #innocentface after it?
You know you are being goady coming out with that and not qualifying with excatly what you mean.

Sux2buthen · 01/10/2019 11:38

Never!

Soola · 01/10/2019 11:38

Sorry, that should say

when your health permanently falters.

mylifenow27 · 01/10/2019 11:39

28 I'm 28 and I feel old!! I'm hoping I find my second wind when the kids get a big bigger!! I hope I don't feel this exhausted for the rest of my life Confused

Asta19 · 01/10/2019 11:40

I'm actually 50 today! lol. Didn't realise that in the last 24 hours I became "over the hill". Grin

Superzowie · 01/10/2019 11:40

I'm assuming OP is being a goady fucker deliberately.

SinglePringle · 01/10/2019 11:41

OP, have you seen J-Lo, Jennifer Anniston, Julianne Moore, Gwen Stefani, Matthew Mcconaughey, Cate Blanchett recently? All turn 50 this year.

Fucking past it the lot of ‘em.

I too turn 50 later this year. I swim, do pilates, take my dogs hill walking, can dance till 4am (and did so at the weekend) and thank the Lord I’ve developed the maturity some seem to be lacking

Soola · 01/10/2019 11:41

@Asta19 condolence. Please go and wrap yourself in a shroud immediately!

Seriously - Happy Birthday! Cake

GrimalkinsCrone · 01/10/2019 11:42

Correct me if I’m wrong, you are around 45, overweight and Scottish?
Not long for you then...make a bucket list quick!

Ninkaninus · 01/10/2019 11:43

What?

It really depends on what over the hill means to you - if it’s meant to be a metaphor to illustrate the fact that one has reached or gone beyond the midpoint of one’s lifespan in years, then yes, fifty is likely to be it.

If it means getting to the point where you can no longer be bothered and you might as well get old now and just sit around waiting to die, or your worth as a person is somehow diminished because you’re no longer in the flush of youth then no, fifty is not it. Nor is any other age.

I tend to think of it as a state of mind. I’ve no intention of becoming aged until I’m actually aged, all being well. If I had to put an age on that I’d say maybe 75? But these things really are very variable. I don’t really see the point in making it age specific.

tabulahrasa · 01/10/2019 11:46
