I'm going to start with High Street Kensington. A classic start, if I do say so myself.

No, D^3, you're not the first to intervene without playing a move but you're evidently an experienced player (although somewhat rash - Swiss Cottage indeed) and we can't allow you the same latitude we allow the novices (and even they have been warned).

Chalfont and Latimer

ForalltheSaints · 08/10/2019 19:00

Ah, dearest Metroland as immortalised by our former Poet Laureate. He I am sure understood the finer arts of MC, though never the subject of any of his verse.

He reminds me that there was once an Underground beyond Amersham, and so the closed lines rule enables me to move to Brill. Younger people are probably unaware of this outpost of the metropolis.

DadDadDad · 08/10/2019 21:17

Ref! Ref! ForalltheSaints is... reminiscing Shock

Looks like I'll have to play. Chalfont and Latimer makes a parallel north-south jump tricky especially without an Oyster card, but I think I might be able to go south of the river:

Tooting Bec

MyNightWithMaud · 08/10/2019 22:47

Saints has much to reminiscence about. Her performance at the world championships in Bali in ‘74 is the stuff of MC legend and is mentioned in the more authoritative textbooks.

Brixton

EmpressLesbianInChair · 08/10/2019 23:01

Southwark. The only possible move.

sashh · 09/10/2019 05:41

OK Saints and 3^3 your bickering (Saints I know you were not the instigator) has allowed me to invoke the TARDIS rule of future stations and play Battersea Power Station.

For those not familiar with the rule it is in the 2035 addition.Obviously you will have to travelin time to read it as the bringing back of a copy almost caused the collapse of the 2022/1899 Pretoria game and we all know where that ended.

coffeeagogo · 09/10/2019 07:04

From the future, we must look to the past - I propose a time hop to Down Street station

DadDadDad · 09/10/2019 09:23

Yes, yes, all very clever, but where's your sense of style? Maybe I can restore some elegance, with a classic play to

Charing Cross

(and yes, I am aware that pigeons are blocked on the Northern Line during peak hours).

MyNightWithMaud · 09/10/2019 14:04

The more I see of your play, D^3, the more familiar it seems. Weren’t you at Dubrovnik in ‘87 for the quarter finals? I remember the furore after you played Victoria on a downward platform. But I know you despise reminiscence, so

Holloway Road

ForalltheSaints · 09/10/2019 15:19

A short trip to Arsenal. Without any rules being invoked.

DadDadDad · 09/10/2019 17:50

I don't despise reminiscing; I was just pointing out it wasn't accompanied by a move. That said, I prefer to let my gameplay speak for me, so my lips are sealed about Dubrovnik and I'll say

Old Street

MyNightWithMaud · 09/10/2019 23:36

Prosaically but necessarily

Bond Street

Keeoe · 10/10/2019 01:21

@MyNightWithMaud you crafty bugger, you! Well, you leave me no option, so, Angel it is then. See Thatcher's revision of the Turnblad rules for clarification if needed.

LonginesPrime · 10/10/2019 01:44

Since it's now Thursday, I'm going to offer a sneaky Finsbury Park if I may.

ForalltheSaints · 10/10/2019 06:53

The east (or is it north) part of the Piccadilly line is rarely visited in a game of MC, indeed was not played for four rounds of the 1968 tournament, even though it was held nearby at Alexandra Palace.

So Oakwood seems the next logical move.

sashh · 10/10/2019 07:24

Morden

In a slightly cold / virusy way, but I'll be fine the cat is attempting to sleep between my mouse and my keyboard.

Drat, sashh. I was planning a horizontal shunt to Sloane Square but you’ve made that impossible now. My second best option is

Great Portland Street

Spidey66 · 10/10/2019 13:35

It doesn't make any sense??? Confused
You're just randomly saying various tube stations names without rhyme nor reason. What's the point of it?

Is that directed at Maud? I agree her play is a little erratic.

Or are you saying you've never played mornington crescent?

Spidey66 · 10/10/2019 13:57

I've never played it because it doesn't appear to make any sense!

RolytheRhino · 10/10/2019 14:01

Can I use the Euston Square bypass to play Moorgate?

MyNightWithMaud · 10/10/2019 17:24

You don’t fool us, spidey. We saw you at the summer school in Wolverhampton last May. And as for calling my play erratic!

Bromley by Bow

donquixotedelamancha · 10/10/2019 17:51

www.isihac.net/mornington_crescent.php

I suppose to non-brits it can be a bit confusing. This game is a bit advanced (not to mention that some posters appear to be changing rule sets mid game).

Probably better to actually watch a live game on YouTube. Certainly much more exciting.

DadDadDad · 10/10/2019 18:09

Wait a minute, there's reduced escalator service at Wood Green tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/stations-lifts-and-escalators-works-and-closures, so Roly can't use the bypass to play Moorgate, which means your Bromley by Bow is invalid, Maud*, unless you're prepared to allow bus replacement services, in which case I'm going to be a big help to the next player and go for

St John's Wood

*that's a whole other thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pedants_corner/3696934-reduced-escalator-facilities

PhonicTheHedgehog · 10/10/2019 18:17

I’ll try and keep things simple for the newbies.
