Could you easily walk 10k

Shoeshelpplease · 29/09/2019 19:32

Would you need to train?

Would you struggle at all to walk it (say within two hours)

Would you ache or hurt the next day?

His is general terrain, nothing difficult or unusual about it.

I'm in my 50s and could easily do this. If its uphill then my legs might ache a bit the next day, but on the flat no problem

AgeLikeWine · 29/09/2019 19:43

Yes, no problem, and I often do. If there were no serious hills, it would take me about 1h45, and I’m not exactly super fit. My legs would be a bit stiff the next day, but that just shows that I have exercised my body.

If you’re not used to walking it would be a good idea to start with a short 2-3k walk and work up from there. make sure you are wearing very comfortable old trainers and layered clothing which you can remove as you warm up. Take water or an energy drink.

If 10k sounds a long way, 6 miles might sound less intimidating. Good luck! Smile

Polkadotdelight · 29/09/2019 19:43

I've been doing 6m recently within 2 hours comfortably. I can't say it's my idea of fun and my feet ache the next day but that's due to an old injury and I suspect the onset of arthritis

yeah think i could do it easily

WingingWonder · 29/09/2019 19:44

Yes I could easily do this

IWouldPreferNotTo · 29/09/2019 19:44

Yes. Quite easily as I'd expect from most people who don't have some form of chronic illness or mobility issue which affects walking.

Being able to exert yourself at a low level for two hours is not really an indication of significant fitness.

Thenotes · 29/09/2019 19:45

Yes, six miles, about 2 hours on level ground but my feet would hurt next day if I didn't wear supportive shoes.

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/09/2019 19:45

I could do it but I have plantar fasciitis and would be in serious pain the next day.
So I wouldn’t, because it’s not worth it.

iMatter · 29/09/2019 19:46

Yes, easily.

I walk 10k when I take my dog out as well as running 10k 4 times a week.

Horses for courses though. For some people it will be a massive challenge and barely doable.

raspberryk · 29/09/2019 19:46

I'm fat and unfit - bmi 28.5, I can walk 10k in 2 hours but I'd be knackered and aching for days after, even if I trained (did so as a teen) I'd still ache but I'd be quicker.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 29/09/2019 19:47

Usually yes, easily, but I'm pregnant atm and walking has become annoyingly painful.

WitsEnding · 29/09/2019 19:48

I walk this far most days, often further in more challenging surroundings. It would take me the full 2 hours but in decent footwear I'd do it comfortably with no aches or pains. I'm over 60.

MissTicPizza · 29/09/2019 19:48

I am obese and would not consider myself to be fit but I regularly walk longer distances than that with no aches the following day. I can walk 10k in under 1.5 hours.

TeuchterTraveller · 29/09/2019 19:48

Yes easily, I would only ache if the walk was up a mountain.

Ambassadorforthedog · 29/09/2019 19:49

Easily but completely get that it could be very hard for many people

BarbaraofSeville · 29/09/2019 19:49

Of course. I walk 6-8 miles on hilly terrain at least once a week for fun.

It would be concerning if an able bodied adult or child above about 5 years old with no health issues and appropriate clothing and footwear couldn't walk 10 k in a couple of hours.

Why do you ask?

umberellaonesie · 29/09/2019 19:51

If I did that distance tomorrow I would probably be a bit stiff the next day if I walked it at pace. I walked 60 km in 16 hours last year for charity. And it was amazing how quickly I was able to increase my distance and speed during training by walking regularly 2 short fast walks and 1 long walk a week.

fallfallfall · 29/09/2019 19:51

10,000 steps per day is about 7km.
i easily do this with steep inclines for cardio, daily.
10km walk would be a breeze.

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 29/09/2019 19:53

I'm obese and unfit but yes, I'd be able to do this no bother.

Elphame · 29/09/2019 19:57

No - I do this and more most days

Pharlapwasthebest · 29/09/2019 19:59

Easily, but I do power walk my dog 4/5k every day

Bloomburger · 29/09/2019 20:00

I could run it. Walking would be a nice afternoon out with the DCs

FlyingSquid · 29/09/2019 20:01

Yes, easily, and I do it a few times a week (but I also have plantar fasciitis and possibly should give it up for a bit).

AutumnRose1 · 29/09/2019 20:02

Yes but I'm a regular exerciser
Also overweight though

I would need to stretch my quads after, assuming a fast walk all in one go. But I'm the sort of person who needs to stretch a lot.

Ragwort · 29/09/2019 20:04

Yes I could, but would struggle if it wasn’t flat Blush.
