Could you easily walk 10k

Would you need to train?

Would you struggle at all to walk it (say within two hours)

Would you ache or hurt the next day?

His is general terrain, nothing difficult or unusual about it.

I do not walk 10k a day or even close and DH would probably struggle to get to that in a normal week.

I aim for a minimum 10k per day (this is overall step count not in one go!) but I do have arthritis. I'm currently in a period of feeling well so could manage and a few times a week do hit 10k in one go.

During a flare there are some days I can't do the school run and wont make more than 2k Sad

I think you are getting fit people posting on this and understand why some people would be nervous about it.
The government by the way says most people walk between 4k and 5k steps a day.

I walk at least 5 miles per day, over hill and down dale, with my dogs, which is 8km, so yes I could, and I'm 57 years old.

I think you are getting fit people posting on this and understand why some people would be nervous about it.

There are multiple people who posted that didn't sound fit. I have a BMI of 43 and could easily walk 10k in two hours. I don't have a dog and don't walk regularly. I do however easily walk 20-25k when on holiday so I know I would find it easy to do.

So unless they have joint or muscle problems or similar I don't see why training is needed.

4 thousand steps is about the same as 2 miles in distance I believe ?

Walking is easy for me, I've recently started running 10k and I don't find that easy but can do it in around an hour.

Absolutely I could walk 10k no problem and regularly do. I think we are in trouble if the consensus is anything different tbh!

My boss was talked into joining a marathon, then he decided he’d just do 5k. Then that he’d walk the 5k

He asked me loads of advice about training and footwear Grin

He bought new shoes, and trained for weeks.

He found it quite a challenge but was proud he’d done it.

I did not want to rain on his parade by saying I walk 7-8k every day, just walking the dog.

It was interesting to see what 5k looked like to someone who does absolutely no exercise ever!

Yes, I can run 10km in just over an hour fairly easily (I’m a plodder) and quite often walk more than this in a day.

I have a desk job and in a typical day will only do about 5-7km unless I make a conscious effort to do more. I do go to the gym three times a week, and run at least twice a week.

It would be a great idea to "train" for it, anyway. Go out together after work for increasing periods of time on feet (not worrying about pace too much). Good for mental health, good for fitness and health.

Employers should be encouraging it! Maybe better to do at lunchtimes as it gets dark in the evenings so early now.

2 years ago, no way. My BMI was 41 and I have an arthritic disorder.

Now, easily. I've lost a lot of weight (7 stone) and worked hard to increase my fitness. However, terrain matters. I live in a very hilly area so 10km plus in the hills is something to plan and aim for. 10km around town on the valley floor, not a problem at all.

Yes. Although the last time I went for a long walk I ended up with horrible blisters, so - yes, if I'm wearing trainers.

No aches expected, but I think it would challenge me to complete that in < 2 hrs.
We routinely walk 5-6 miles once or twice each weekend, but I don't usually walk quite as fast as 5km/hr. More like 4.82 km/hr.
Age 52, I do about 900 'active' minutes a week.

Yes I’m confident I could do it (I’m 57). I’m not a speedy walker and I’m quite overweight but do workout regularly. I’d be worried about footwear so would want to make sure it was appropriate and well broken in. I think the biggest issue would be heat - I would struggle if it was really hot out.
