Could you easily walk 10k

Would you need to train?

Would you struggle at all to walk it (say within two hours)

Would you ache or hurt the next day?

His is general terrain, nothing difficult or unusual about it.

Frequently walk more than that when on holiday sightseeing. But that's over the course of a day, with stops for coffee etc. Whether or not I ached would depend on the trainers I was wearing.

ClownsandCowboys · 29/09/2019 19:33

No, I wouldn't struggle (unless I had to take dd with me). I can run 10k in about 50mins when I'm not injured. Not sure what my walking time would be.

saraclara · 29/09/2019 19:34

As long as there wasn't any significant uphill-ness, of course. 10k is nothing (and I'm fairly old and not super fit)

(1km uphill and I'd be whinging though)

Easy as long as it's not uphill Grin

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 29/09/2019 19:35

I wouldn't need to train but I'd probably have achy legs the next day.

RainbowCookie · 29/09/2019 19:35

I run 15km as my long run once a week, so a 10km walk would be pretty easy, not something I would even think about before doing

CherryPavlova · 29/09/2019 19:35

That's only six miles. A three mile walk out and back. It’s really not very far. My husband runs 10 miles most days on hilly terrain; we both walk a minimum of five miles a day in addition to his running.
Our ninety year old neighbours also walk about five miles a day.

CoffeeRunner · 29/09/2019 19:35

Yes, I regularly walk more than 10k in one go.

It’s not that far really, so long as you are able bodied.

EdWinchester · 29/09/2019 19:36

Of course - it's not far.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 29/09/2019 19:36

Completely depends on level of fitness and usual activities.

I run regularly and so could easily get a 10k done, non-running DH could probably walk it in 1hr30 - 1hr45.

AuntieMarys · 29/09/2019 19:36

Easily. I regularly do walks of 11-12 miles in challenging terrain. And I'm 60.

BikeRunSki · 29/09/2019 19:36

10 km - 6.2 miles. Walking, that would talk me about 1.5-2hrs depending on the gradient I imagine. I could certainly do it comfortably.

missbattenburg · 29/09/2019 19:38

I suspect battendog and I already walk about that each day - though seperated into two sessions - so yes, I could.

However, I am lucky that I have all my bits and they all work. Various health issues could easily impair someone's ability to walk this distance.

drivingtofrance · 29/09/2019 19:38

Yes. I can run 10k in just over an hour (on a good, day) so could walk it easily.

Why do you need to know OP?

Craftycorvid · 29/09/2019 19:38

Wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for me. I’m a very slow runner (about 8k per hour) but I get there. I’m 52 and don’t particularly train heavily.

Rachelover60 · 29/09/2019 19:39

I used to do it regularly and loved. A bit out of practice now though.

Rubicon80 · 29/09/2019 19:39

Yes. My kids do it easily too, and the youngest is only 5. Why?

HeinzBlondeHate · 29/09/2019 19:40

I could comfortably do that with no issues regularly walk further with the kids at the weekend all be it at a strolling pace stopping to look around us etc.
But the school runs are over 10k in a day so I'm used to regularly walking that distance all be it not in one go during the week.
I would imagine if you aren't used to walking that distance then you might have achy legs the next day but it should be doable without needing to do any training etc

MoltonSilver · 29/09/2019 19:40

Easily. Why?

megletthesecond · 29/09/2019 19:40

Yes, easy.
I do it every week as I walk to work, school runs and supermarket.

ChanklyBore · 29/09/2019 19:40

I did some training when I did a 50km walk. I started with 10km walks but they were really the first increment and don’t/didn’t pose a challenge. Lots of days I do 10k by accident just living normal life.

pallisers · 29/09/2019 19:41

I try to walk 5 miles in one go every day. Extending it by a mile or two wouldn't bother me at all.

RainOrSun · 29/09/2019 19:41

Yes, I would easily expect to do that in trainers, without noticing the effect the next day.
It finally stopped raining here, so we've just done 6 km with the kids (aged 8 and 10). The 8 year old probably did an extra km or 2 as he was running ahead and then back to us.

Hedgehogblues · 29/09/2019 19:42

No but I could roll it in my manual wheelchair

mynameiscalypso · 29/09/2019 19:42

I'm 6 weeks post-section and I walked that this week (while pushing DS) including up and down several hills. I was a bit tired when I got home (and wet as I got caught in torrential rain twice) but it wasn't too much of a struggle.
