Job that earns £150 a day?

Wagesnages · 26/09/2019 11:04

Just really...I am thinking of moving back to the uk and in my current job I earn (170+euros a day) so that is approx 150 pounds! And by day I mean I 9-5 at the most! Current hours are 9-4(latest)
What kind of jobs/positions In the uk would I need to get to have the same earning potential??
Not stating what I do as I am open to changing, I don’t actually think my job in the I’m would earn the same. Thank you

@Teddybear45 can you pm me any more information about this type of position? I am a maths teacher with leadership experience but I am looking for a move out of education.

Viviene · 26/09/2019 18:14

Intellectual Property Administrators / Paralegals. You won't start at 55k but will achieve it after few years.

LuckyLou7 · 26/09/2019 19:02

Why are you thinking of moving back to the UK now? It's not exactly the best time to consider it. If you're earning good money where you are, stay put, save up, come back to the UK in a few years with a healthy bank balance to tide you over until you find the kind of work (and salary) you are prepared to take on.

Wagesnages · 26/09/2019 19:08

@LuckyLou7 family issues,I thought if could get over then I could be of more help but I’m not going to any help if I’m broke and working all hours.😬 so I’ll just stay here and visit more often I think. Thanks everyone l.

I think pilots get paid well but the hours are a bit weird

KurriKawari · 26/09/2019 19:29

You won't be broke on £30k.

WellButterMyArse · 26/09/2019 19:34

Wages are very low on the whole in the NW and if you want to earn more than £20k you’re going to have to put in a lot of hours. 8-7pm at least I should think

As a north west resident, this sounds no closer to the truth to me than OPs £150 a day for a 9-4. I do live in Manchester which I accept has more well paid jobs going than anywhere else in the region, but equally, it's still the north west!

lljkk · 26/09/2019 19:40

App developer, graphics designer. I know free lance people charging £250-£300/day for those skills. Gross. Taxes, Pension, holiday pay & sick pay have to come out of those rates.

KurriKawari · 26/09/2019 20:00

Football player

motorcyclenumptiness · 26/09/2019 20:02

Law is very transferable
I've a law degree/masters/20 yrs in a related sector and I'm not feeling the transferability. And I've just been rejected for a nightime shelf stacking role in a supermarketSad.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 26/09/2019 20:02

A nanny job in london would give you wages similar to that, if you're able to find a vip or hnw family, a nanny share would also pay you close to that.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 26/09/2019 20:03

You would be working a lot more than 9-5 tho

KurriKawari · 26/09/2019 20:04

Paul Hollywood's girlfriend?
Enter X Factor and get a record deal?
Direct an Oscar winning movie?

Snog · 26/09/2019 20:09

Maybe be a teacher in Ireland

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 26/09/2019 20:13

Painter/decorator, handyman. gardener would all earn well over £150 a day in London. Plumbers and electricians at least £300.

C0untDucku1a · 26/09/2019 20:13

Good decision op. I work
With a lot of irish teachers. They couldnt get jobs in ireland due to the cushy system there! Working conditions are significantly better there. Stay put.

JoJoSM2 · 26/09/2019 20:29

Do you need to be in the North of England?

In London, the pay in state schools is up to 48k so could be over 50k with a bit of extra responsibility. Maybe an independent school would pay you 55k if you’re good.

QueenOfWinterfell · 26/09/2019 20:45

butter I meant to type £30k not £20k

DragonflyInn · 26/09/2019 20:49

OP look at how living costs (esp housing) in the NW compared to where you are now. I’m in the south east and could afford a considerable drop in pay if I relocated to the NW, to maintain a similar lifestyle. It may be that you can consider less without it having much impact.

I’d suggest something that pays commission (eg recruitment consultant) to reach the £55k level but imagine you’d have to work pretty hard and over 9-5 to generate really decent commission. Plus it’s not exactly recession proof!

Perunatop · 26/09/2019 20:52

Search the internet for UK jobs that suit and in the meantime stay put.

WellButterMyArse · 26/09/2019 21:50

I wouldn't recommend a London move to someone capable of earning a professional salary in the north of England, unless there were some particular reason they wanted to be there. In lifestyle terms, if you can buck the problem of low local wages but are also not going to be a really high earner, the north is likely to serve you better. You can buy a comfortable lifestyle much more cheaply here. Teachers can and do.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 26/09/2019 22:04

I agree WellButter, there seems to be a perception on MN that people in the North scrape by on tuppence 'appeny but are compensated by houses costing five bob.

'The North' surprisingly is a diverse area with a general lower cost of living, lower house prices on the whole, but also lots of prosperity, well-paid jobs and relatively high house prices in certain areas.

Much like 'The South' really!

elliollie · 26/09/2019 22:11

I teach Functional Skills and live in the North. £150 is my daily rate. However, I'm self employed and only have this consistently because I've built up a client base over time and run regular short courses, of which 99% continue with a new cohort at the end of the 12/18 weeks or whatever. I'm also only part time by choice.
I do also tutor in the evenings and 3 nights a week earn around £75 for 3 hours work.
Although this is all before tax, my tax bill isn't huge because I my hours are low.

JoJoSM2 · 26/09/2019 22:20

@WellButterMyArse

Not sure what your point is. London is a big place and the lifestyle can be great. I live in a part of London that’s relatively affordable and very popular with teachers . Being in London, there’s the benefit of all the culture, nightlife, great career opportunities etc but I’m also within walking distance of the coutryside, short drive to the hills and 1h from the beach. For families, there are also fab schools. The lifestyle can be great.

Egghead68 · 26/09/2019 22:30

Plumber.

But only move back to the UK at the moment if you really really need to. We are up shit creek.
