Job that earns £150 a day?

Wagesnages · 26/09/2019 11:04

Just really...I am thinking of moving back to the uk and in my current job I earn (170+euros a day) so that is approx 150 pounds! And by day I mean I 9-5 at the most! Current hours are 9-4(latest)
What kind of jobs/positions In the uk would I need to get to have the same earning potential??
Not stating what I do as I am open to changing, I don’t actually think my job in the I’m would earn the same. Thank you

You could probably get that as a solicitor up north at maybe 4 years PQE but you'd need to do the LPC which is pricey plus a two year training contract. I've never been able to work 9-5 but people might? How long can you afford to take a pay cut for?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 26/09/2019 16:08

Become a webcam girl

😂 for minimum wage if you’re lucky!

BarbaraofSeville · 26/09/2019 16:10

Would something like in house lawyer in the charity or public sectors offer that pay for regular office hours?

But the OP would still be competing against people with recent and relevant experience.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 26/09/2019 16:11

Primary supply teacher in Manchester up to £189 a day here.

YerAWizardHarry · 26/09/2019 16:11

Don't come to the NE of Scotland expecting a job in the oil and gas, people who are qualified and have years of experience are struggling to find work and there's another downturn round the corner

Bodicea · 26/09/2019 16:13

Head teacher in a small/medium size primary school.
Senior management in the nhs/council.
Dentist
Recruitment consultant.
Senior sale role.

NumberblockNo1 · 26/09/2019 16:17

Ilikeyour - it doesnt really work out that rate as you need to take into account holiday pay etc. It will average out to less than a teacher's wage and thats IF you manage to be fully booked.

kjhkj · 26/09/2019 16:25

You can't work as a solicitor either in private practice or in house without significant training and for £50k in the north of England you'd also need a fair amount of PQ experience and believe you me it is not a 9-5 job.

OP its an odd question because you clearly live in cloud cuckoo land. £55k jobs with no experience outside of London are not easy to come by. Particularly since we are likely to be heading into recession in the UK.

Good luck though.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/09/2019 16:29

It also says up to £189 per day. I don't know how rates are worked out, but with school budgets are what they are, if someone else is willing to work for less, some schools might be tempted to contract who they can get for the least cost.

Plus obviously it's insecure and while some people might get work every day, many won't and a school year is what, 190 days, so even at the maximum rate that's about £35k pa gross plus you might have to be travelling all over the place to earn that, so more costly than a regular permanent post in a local school.

This!

Good luck, OP but I suspect you’re going to be disappointed.

Basically you’re asking for a list of careers that pay twice the average wage here with no qualifications and only work 9-5.

Try googling.

sandyfoot · 26/09/2019 16:35

MP? No experience or even sense required. Paid loads to do bugger all.

Wagesnages · 26/09/2019 16:36

Think I’ll stay put!! 😂😂

I'm on £50k after 5 years in this industry working in a middle management role.

But some ideas of jobs knowing that you are a teacher but don't want to do that, that you have some kind of law qualification but no idea of whether you have any recent work experience in that field and without any clear guidance on your interests, skills, location, other than that you want less than full time hours, core business hours only and somewhere North UK.

Ah, I did wonder Number and Barbara, I know sod-all about supply teaching.

Wagesnages · 26/09/2019 17:16

Well I’m 38 so I could take a hit for a few years and work my way up.

Wish my son wasn’t going to flog himself to be a nurse for the next 4 years when he could be a train driver for probably double the salary on half the time ☹️
Life will have come full circle. His great grandad worked on the railways and my dad drove a train

mindutopia · 26/09/2019 17:20

I’m an academic and I earn close to that in London. But I have a PhD and it’s definitely not a 9-5 job though I have good quality of life and a lot flexibility. I’ve spent about 9 years in postgrad education and 3 years postdoctoral experience to have a salary like that though. I think it would be highly unlikely to walk into most industries at that level, particularly in the north where salaries are lower.

fedup21 · 26/09/2019 17:23

£100 a day MAX supply here, with agencies always trying to get you to teach for a £50 cover supervisor rate- not good!

KurriKawari · 26/09/2019 17:28

Not sure you have the common sense for a £55k job...

Go on any number of job websites (GuardianJobs, Reed, indeed) and search by salary and location. As someone said there are too many variables, for example Project Managers can get paid anywhere from £30k to £60k depending on sector, responsibility, experience, etc etc

Wagesnages · 26/09/2019 17:34

@KurriKawari I never said 55k I asked about wages equivalent/similar to what I am on now. Hmm

OP posts:
QueenOfWinterfell · 26/09/2019 17:45

Wagesnages I’m struggling to understand why you want to move when you’re not going to get anywhere close to the same pay and conditions here! Any job paying over £30k in the NW requires lots of years experience and overtime. I’d stay put if I were you!

fedup21 · 26/09/2019 17:48

I never said 55k I asked about wages equivalent/similar to what I am on now

But you said you took home £150 a day, which is about £55k and asked for jobs earning a similar amount, didn’t you??

HandsOffMyRights · 26/09/2019 17:50

I would suggest tutoring.

KurriKawari · 26/09/2019 17:52

Enough said.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/09/2019 17:53

But you said a take home pay of £150 per day. Assuming 5 days a week 48 weeks of the year that's £3k per month.

In order to take home £3k per month in the UK you need an annual salary of over £50k pa assuming 5% pension contributions.

Such jobs without direct relative experience and with regular office hours are like hens teeth.
