Forget the silly digs at Netmums the crux of the matter is should ordinary items that have been festooned by amateurs (often badly) with the logo of established brands be considered tasteful?

The answer is a resounding NO regardless of whether you like bling or not because it’s the appropriation of the brand logo that should be considered as being morally wrong.

If it was done in an ironic way such as being spelt ‘Channel’ ‘Shanel’ as a form of kitsch then I have no problem but it’s the use of the logo as if to appear an authorised image use that I strongly object to.

Soola · 25/09/2019 15:49

@Thatsnotmymammoth your things sound lovely but you are completely missing the point.

AuntieMarys · 25/09/2019 15:53

Truly awful.

NerrSnerr · 25/09/2019 15:54

But not everyone is commenting on the copyright issue though @Soola. Some are just being bitches, talking about chavs and what the OP's appearance must be like.

Mumsnet isn't one thing, it's not for one type of person. As a PP said, it's not the highbrow, intellectual forum people pretend it is, if that's what you want they do exist but this isn't it!

Thatsnotmymammoth · 25/09/2019 16:04

The OP asked what people thought of the items. My answer was in response to that question Soola

AriadneO · 25/09/2019 16:05

Some posters are being so mean to the OP, and weirdly condescending about Netmums. Mumsnet is hardly high-brow - it's a bunch of bored, normal people asking if it's unreasonable to be cross with your MIL because she opens your front door without knocking, and also parents swapping parenting tips. Get off your high horse, pseudo-intelligentsia...

PrimeraVez · 25/09/2019 16:08

Can I ask a serious question? What’s the rationale behind faux branded stuff like this? Do people really think it passes as Chanel? I can just about understand knock off handbags, belts, sunglasses etc, but candle plates?!

To me, it’s no different to me getting a marker pen and scrawling ‘Gucci’ on my kettle?!

SistersOfMerci · 25/09/2019 16:08

If MN was high brow then I wouldn't be here. But you can't deny the users of both forums are, broadly speaking, different.

And the Op asked if people liked them, lots of us don't. So should we all just not comment and just have the people that like them comment?

If people don't want negative comments then don't post the question in the first place.

norfolkskies · 25/09/2019 16:11

okay I`ll bite.
DS and I learned about Chanel in DT. She would spinning in her grave if she saw these.

its just your average fb tat .

FrogsAreMean · 25/09/2019 16:19

SistersOfMerci

"Frogs you just keep rabbiting on about hitting mean girls nerves. I don't see any frazzled nerves anywhere." - Frazzled? Did I say frazzled? - Perhaps just singed hun

"Enjoy your crafting table with lots of bling blind and fake Chanel stuffs grin" - Cheers hun Wink

Bluntness100 · 25/09/2019 16:20

What’s the rationale behind faux branded stuff like this

To be honest I don't understand this either. Fair enough if it looks real and is good quality, could fool most people. But when it's very clearly cheap knock off, I don't understand the rationale at all.

FrogsAreMean · 25/09/2019 16:27

"If people don't want negative comments then don't post the question in the first place."

OR people could post questions and receive negative comments that don't drip with sarcasm, snobbery and superiority.

And please don't tell me you haven't seen anything of the kind on this thread because that would be fibbing.

SecretWitch · 25/09/2019 16:32

Christ, why do people have to be such dicks.

They are not my taste, op but nothing wrong in trying your hand.

I might also be a bit worried about the trade mark thing. Maybe have a look into the ramifications

StarlingsInSummer · 25/09/2019 16:35

I don’t even understand when it’s good enough that it can fool people. YOU would know after all.

BenWillbondsPants · 25/09/2019 16:57

If people don't want negative comments then don't post the question in the first place.

Maybe they just have an expectation that people will not act like dickheads? Crazy expectation on here it seems.

OtraCosaMariposa · 25/09/2019 17:07

But when it's very clearly cheap knock off, I don't understand the rationale at all.

I volunteer in a charity shop and we see LOADS of knock offs, usually bags or jewellery but sometimes scarves and clothing. 99 times out of 100 it is SO easy to see that it's fake. Poorly made. Doesn't fit with the brand. Falling to bits. Plastic when it should be leather.

You are fooling nobody. Chanel make high-end accessories, not cheapo bling.

Mooncupblues · 25/09/2019 17:12

Oh they’re hideous

ConcreteUnderpants · 25/09/2019 17:18

But not everyone is commenting on the copyright issue though @Soola. Some are just being bitches, talking about chavs

As did you, Soola with your incredibly rude previous posts.

The amount of nastiness on this thread is appalling. If you don't like them, fine. Just say so, no need to be horrid. Fucking people on here.

AloneLonelyLoner · 25/09/2019 17:23

Did you make them? If so well done.

I really wouldn't have them myself though. That's as tactless as I can be (today).

SistersOfMerci · 25/09/2019 17:48

Frogs I'm not denying the sarcasm but I'm hideously sarcastic in real life and don't give two hoots if it's the lowest form of wit.

As you were hun, still crafting?

Sagradafamiliar · 25/09/2019 17:59

No.

ConcreteUnderpants · 25/09/2019 19:16

As you were hun, still crafting?

That's not sarcasm, SistersofMerci. That's just being a spiteful twat.

Can't you just answer the question as per Sagradafamiliar without reporting to being a nasty cow?

FoldenHoard · 25/09/2019 19:29

I don’t personally like them, but whatever floats your boat.

Agree with PP, you just come across as a bit of a bully SistersOfMerci in that exchange.

Never a good look, hun. That’s me being deliciously sarcastic.

LemonPrism · 25/09/2019 19:53

I mean it's copyright... and obvious copyright

Bezalelle · 25/09/2019 20:19

They're... interesting.
