I said something mortifying in this interview, no chance of the job now is there?!

I went in today for a role I can work alongside my current studies. It was a lovely company and a friendly atmosphere.

The interview went well and I felt pleased with myself. Until a set of employees came into view and made me say something awful.

The woman was opening a gift someone has just given her... Her grin was huge! My would be boss said "Ahh, she does look happy! What a picture".

I said "Yes! She looks like the cat who licked the flaps!"

What I really meant was the cat who got the cream Blush It came out all wrong. The boss looked a bit stumbled and then patted me on the back to follow the other person who'd interviewed me back to the entrance.

I'm mortified. I've no idea how it came out in such a way. It's horrendous. Since having my DC I've often stumbled on words and used the wrong phrase but normally just in the wrong order.

I could've crawled into a hole and stayed. No chance of that job now, is there?

This happened yesterday late afternoon. They were letting people know Monday.

Maybe stick to nodding in agreement in future 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hope you get the job, it would give you extra bonus points with me!

Celebelly · 21/09/2019 21:05

Honestly, it was 10 years ago and I still think of it now and cringe Blush So you may never forget it OP, but you do learn to laugh at yourself!

I hope you get the job and can acquit yourself by not discussing people's flaps in the workplace.

DinoroarDinosaur · 21/09/2019 21:06

Oh my god, OP. I have literally been crying with laughter about this for the last 5 minutes. I was trying to tell my dh what you said and I couldn't get the words out. It took about 15 attempts before I could say the words. Good luck with the job though 😂

rwalker · 21/09/2019 21:07

It's endearing!
Hope you get the job.

Lemoneeza · 21/09/2019 21:28

that is the funniest thing I've ever read on here Grin

if you were otherwise the best candidate then I'm sure you will still get it. unless it's a job in a funeral directors or something where saying the wrong thing would be really bad.

StormBaby · 21/09/2019 21:28

That would get you the job in my place, because I work with a bunch of utter bastards and they'd love to torture you with it FOREVER

I once told 2 interviewers that the dept I'd be working in looked a bit chaotic but a good sort out would put it to rights !
I got the job !

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 21/09/2019 21:37

Howling. Sorry OP but this is hilarious

katewhinesalot · 21/09/2019 21:39

CaMePlaitPas · 21/09/2019 21:43

This is the funniest thing I've read on Mumsnet.

If I was interviewing you you'd definitely get the job.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 21/09/2019 21:43

I had an interview 30 minutes after finding out that DH was terminally ill. I sat and cried at the panel for half an hour, trying to answer the questions through my tears. The panel offered to reschedule for a later date, after I explained why I was upset, but i said "what's the point, he will still be dying in a a week's time so let's just get it over with". It was an internal role. I didn't get it, because my answers were awful (brain not in right place) but I was encouraged to apply for a temporary promotion instead which I got.
