What do you buy to treat yourself.

I am trying to get to stop myself from spending impulsively and have given myself a budget of £50 a month for treats and fun.

I have put myself on a semi ban of no gaming as I have spent so much money on that.Problem is I have no idea what else to buy.

I don't drink so that's out.

Surely you must have some idea of what you like Confused. Chocolate, coffee out, nail varnish, magazines, books, ride on a steam engine ?? Or just save it, buy Premium Bonds, you don’t have to spend it.

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 20:54

Honestly right now no. It's a treat so don't want to stick it in savings. My brains gone blank.

Well if you need to think about what would be a treat, maybe you don't really want anything? So it isn't a treat? If you can't think of anything one month, I'd save it and then blow a bigger sum on something like a day out or new boots or whatever you fancy

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 20/09/2019 21:01

Always flowers or a plant.

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:02

True. I am unpacking a lot of harmful behaviour and used to spending. I am just going to see how it goes. I usually blow it on stupid stuff so it's weird to be stopping myself.

Twix bars. You could get a lot of them for £50!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 20/09/2019 21:04

However, it's at least a couple of months since I bought myself one of those. I don't feel compelled to go out and buy myself treats up to a certain budget every month Confused.

True but, I would end up awfully sick.

Really nice bubble bath or shower gel?

JuniperBeer · 20/09/2019 21:05

A bunch of flowers every Saturday morning. Anything from peonies to tulips. Nothing fancy. £4/5ish from aldi or Sainsbury’s. They make my week

OhioOhioOhio · 20/09/2019 21:05

New bedcovers.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 20/09/2019 21:06

You could always put it in an account separately if you don't spend it all this month. One month you might want a bigger treat!

I've just bought myself nice pillows and an Egyptian cotton sheet. Rock. And. Roll!

Everyone is different. Confused I feel the need to control my spending after not being in control.

I do like the sound of bubble bath. Smile

I'm sorry to read that OP.

I like candles, membership to Headspace, very expensive soaps (which are still cheap in the grand scheme of things!), Fresh flowers, seeds for the garden, exotic tea blends, books, audiobooks, Cashmere socks, sheet face masks, massages

SimonJT · 20/09/2019 21:08

Trainers, I could get one for £50!

iklboo · 20/09/2019 21:08

A kindle. Then splurge on books.

DonPablo · 20/09/2019 21:09

Typical stuff? Pedicure, fancy dinners, new clothes, shoes or underwear, a fancy ass haircut.

Functional? A new chair, floor or stand mixer.

To feel pampered? Reflexology, the osteopath, a facial or microbalding.

Like a teenager? A tattoo.

Everyday shite? Coffees, lunch, a splurge in anywhere like boots, Holland and Barrett, tx maxx.

The reality. A cold pinto and 20 fags.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 20/09/2019 21:09

New book (or kindle version), or new music to listen to? Cinema ticket? Small piece of jewellery that will make you feel strong/calm/a good memory when you wear it? Membership of something (a group or a place)? Oil diffuser and oils (I find these have a great effect on my mood)? A class in something you feel like trying?

LifeOfBox · 20/09/2019 21:09

June 😂😂😂

I am an expert at buying little things I love but really don’t need. Things like vv posh candle, booths champagne truffles, beautiful plants for my garden, things from a local gallery. Pure wool blankets, posh cushions for my bed. Is that the sort of thing you might think about?

I buy something between £50-100 most months.

DonPablo · 20/09/2019 21:09

Pinto? Pinot. Obvs Grin

MIdgebabe · 20/09/2019 21:09

Money doesn’t go off if you don’t spend it. Buying “treats” is just a capitalist con game that’s destroying the planet. You don’t need treats and it’s unlikely to make you happy.

What are treats ? Something special or a reward for something? It’s not much special or rewarding at £50 a month!

After all that negativity, gig tickets is my weakness.

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:09

@SimonJT just the one. Shock How expensive are they?

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:13

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I live a sheltered life due to mental health issues . So having my little treats is a motivation to keep going. I have started going out more even though I get very overwhelmed/stressed.

Not spending on gaming has left a gap I am struggling to fill really.

I don't buy myself 'treats' ffs. I buy what I need and save the rest.

Sn0tnose · 20/09/2019 21:14

Books, an item of nice make up, train fare to London to spend the day in a museum, a meal out, a ticket to see a band/comedian/play/exhibit, music, something completely frivolous for your home, plants, board games?

In light of the fact that winter is coming, I’ve just bought myself a pair of fingerless cashmere gloves. Only £26 because the cashmere is recycled, but I love them and now I shall be placing monthly orders for all the colours.
