What do you buy to treat yourself.

I am trying to get to stop myself from spending impulsively and have given myself a budget of £50 a month for treats and fun.

I have put myself on a semi ban of no gaming as I have spent so much money on that.Problem is I have no idea what else to buy.

I don't drink so that's out.

YY to an oil defuser, oils and a book of 'recipes'. Mine really helps me unwind and sleep.

LifeOfBox · 20/09/2019 21:16

Midge, I work 45-50 hours most weeks. If I want to ‘treat’ myself to whatever I like so be it.

This month my frivolous thneed is a hanging bird house from the NT shop and a second beautiful weeping malus tree which I needed a huge pot for - £200 of capitalist con or an extra treat to myself after my lovely dog was pts?

Rain? Parade? The OP wants ideas for treats not a lecture.

missmouse101 · 20/09/2019 21:16

Sorry op, just seen your update. I just loathe spending for spending's sake.

JingsMahBucket · 20/09/2019 21:16

I’m a food person, a treat for me would be some nice cheese, charcuterie or something along those lines. I don’t drink that much anymore so wine doesn’t necessarily factor into it. Some flowers are always appreciated too.

MrsA2015 · 20/09/2019 21:17

Each month book something off groupon to the value of £50

BarbaraofSeville · 20/09/2019 21:18

Yes, don't feel like you have to spend it if you don't want anything. If you don’t spend it, you'll have more money available for a bigger treat in future months. Also look at free or very cheap treats.

Tomorrow is likely to be the last really nice weather day for a while, possibly until next year. How about going for a nice walk, local country park, woodland, hills or wherever and have a nice lunch, coffee or ice cream? Added advantage is that it gets you away from gaming and shops that sell rubbish you don't need.

I also buy books for my kindle when they're on sale for 99p.

That's how I treat myself, along with a nice G&T, which obviously isn't something for you.

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:18

@missmouse101 Its okay I should have said earlier.

I am not sure why someone feels angst at someone else’s £50 spending budget. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

How much did you spend on gaming per month OP. Confession ..... old gimmer here who doesn’t really understand what spending on gaming is 😂.

Lucked · 20/09/2019 21:23

Lipstick! I love Guerlain and Chanel.

Guerlain fall collection is just out and I am deciding which matte I should get

FusionChefGeoff · 20/09/2019 21:23

Haircut (added a 'luxury treatment' last time!), facial, yoga class, chocolate, nice stationery, coffee and a cake (and 30 mins to myself to enjoy them!), hobby magazine (Good Food / Grow Your Own), stuff for the garden, new indoor plants & pots, bargain 2nd hand treasures for the house from Facebook marketplace!

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:23

I worked out I spent over £1000 since Jan. 😬 That was just what I could track. I was literally horrified.

@Darkriver19886 It depends on the trainer, at the minute I’m wearing customed nike airmax 95’s. Today I bought some Adidas yeezy for £220, which aren’t anywhere close to being my most expensive footwear purchase.

Love51 · 20/09/2019 21:23

Massage. Round my way you would still have change from £50 so could go to the movies as well. Id do it on separate weekends though.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 20/09/2019 21:24

Train tickets
Cinema tickets
Theatre/concert tickets
Train tickets
Entry to somewhere you want to visit
Donation to a charity you support
Books

I find experiences are more fulfilling than buying things that I don’t really need or want.

TankGirl97 · 20/09/2019 21:25

Well, I buy plant seeds, nice yarn and the odd Mac lipstick.
I highly recommend growing things from seed, it’s incredibly easy and satisfying. It makes me feel connected to the world.

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:26

@SimonJT oh wow. I never realised trainers went up that high.

Aldi's random aisle stuff. Got some acrylic pains the other week. Good chocolate. Take out coffee.

LonginesPrime · 20/09/2019 21:33

This won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I like to put spare money in my stocks and shares ISA and then watch it go up and down on my app (I use nutmeg) as the markets fluctuate.

That or blow it all in Hobbycraft...

BarbaraofSeville · 20/09/2019 21:33

If it makes you feel any better OP, that's probably a lot less than I've spent going scuba diving this year. I literally pay for fresh air and to be taken out to sea to jump off a perfectly good boat.

darkriver19886 · 20/09/2019 21:38

I have had a little ponder and I going to save it for after therapy. I am starting to process trauma and I always feel awful afterwards. So can get myself a treat when I finish.

@barbaraofseville scuba diving sounds fun. Smile I can't swim unfortunately.

Go tkmaxx and have a browse.

sunshine5997 · 20/09/2019 21:53

I get my nails done £20 for infills.
Cinema trip, a nice meal out, a night away (from groupon cheaper) new shoes, a fluffy blanket. High end hot chocolate

sunshine5997 · 20/09/2019 21:55

*high end hot chocolate sounds so pretentious 🤭 I mean like hotel chocolat or green and blacks with cream and mashmallows

AllGoodDogs · 20/09/2019 21:59

Swimming lessons if you can't swim!!

I'd get my nails done professionally rather than butcher them myself at home. Gym membership or a yoga class every week, posh makeup or perfume.

Biggie123 · 20/09/2019 21:59

Hi Op. I just wanted to say congratulations on reducing your spending on gaming. It’s never easy to stop the things here we have relied on. It takes courage and it is not easy to just find something new to sustain us. If only it were that easy.
I hope your therapy goes well. And that this thread gives you some inspiration.
I personally would be tempted to save for a few months and then splash out on a deal to a lovely hotel by the seaside with an old girlfriend or something similar.
