What do you buy to treat yourself.

I am trying to get to stop myself from spending impulsively and have given myself a budget of £50 a month for treats and fun.

I have put myself on a semi ban of no gaming as I have spent so much money on that.Problem is I have no idea what else to buy.

I don't drink so that's out.

I am a food person so:

  • A pain au chocolat/danish/croissant for breakfast
  • A nice loaf of bread from a bakery
  • Fresh fish
  • Fancy loose leaf teas
  • Random seasonal fruit that is on sale that week (it was peaches this week)

Lovely stationery - a new journal and some lovely pens. The buying process is part of the joy, either hours browsing in a shop or on line.
If shopping feels challenging but you want to get out and about a bit more, then I’ve found that identifying a couple of small local independent shops works for me - browsing is usually encouraged, you get to know what is usually a small staff team so feel a bit special cos they greet you warmly, and they have a range of things so your treats don’t get too “samey”
Well done for looking after yourself OP.

I think that treating yourself is a lovely idea OP and there are some great ideas on the thread.

Yesterday, I bought some nice soap from TKMaxx for £3.99, which I can't wait to use. I like to relax after work with a cup of tea so treat myself to nice biscuits that I ration over a week or two. Just small things that make me smile.

rubberduckyyouretheone · 20/09/2019 22:18

Yarn, cosmetics/toiletries, wax (so common by MN standards but makes me happy) fabric and craft magazines.

MeadowHay · 20/09/2019 22:28

Atm coffee out, cake/pastry out, lunch out (theme...), Trashy magazine, fancy herbal tea bags...a book...makeup (rarely), nice underwear (rarely).

tinselvestsparklepants · 20/09/2019 22:33

What about spending on something to start a new hobby? I'm currently spending about £20 a fortnight on fabric, but so far this summer I've made 2 new skirts, have a dress ready to make, I've learned a new skill, have a Pinterest board full of pictures of things I want to make and I've saved money on clothes. Sounds like you need a trip to hobby craft or similar. Making things is addictive - in a good way!

Grey velvet bedspread

I'd buy audio books/subscribe to an audio book streaming service. Then look for interesting jigsaws on f/b seeing pages, or buy some wool. Also buy a lovely candle, some good hot chocolate, then with the hot drink, and a lit scented candle, I'd relax with the audio book on, either doing the jigsaw or knitting/crochet - I like to learn new stitches, make squares, then make blankets. Smile

JingsMahBucket · 21/09/2019 00:51

@rubberduckyyouretheone what do you use the wax for? Or is that a body wax? Love your username, BTW. :)

YesQueen · 21/09/2019 01:17

Mine are
Bath bombs or lovely bath oil
Feather and down stuff (smells amazing and good for relaxing)
A flower subscription from bloom and wild
A good browse around TK maxx!
Getting a pedicure
Cleaner/oven cleaned (I pay £30 for the oven and £50 for a deep clean)

MittsMajuna · 21/09/2019 01:29

Trainers.

brookelopez · 21/09/2019 01:50

a haircut? I often overlook this until it really needs doing. and I feel like I've treated myself afterwards.

Flower777 · 21/09/2019 03:32

Some great ideas here.

I might buy some nice chocolate.

Oh sometimes I have treated myself to a Buddy Box from the Blurt Foundation. That might appeal to you OP because it has a mental health focus and someone else selects the treats!

JingsMahBucket · 21/09/2019 03:53

@YesQueen ah, thank you. I just had to look them up right now and never knew that’s what they were called. I’ve only recently used the scented sticks in oils so I’m new to home fragrances. :)

Nice bar of choc and a bottle of tia Maria
New clothes

TeuchterTraveller · 21/09/2019 08:49

Something to make your life easier? A cleaner or gadget? Or something to help your recovery - gym membership or running shoes to get you into exercise? A haircut, manicure or massage?

I would spend on expensive shower gel, flowers and loading up my kindle. Or save for a weekend away, a gig or wardrobe update.

Moondancer73 · 21/09/2019 08:55

Candles or soy wax melts or a lovely bunch of flowers
