Melanoma

I was sent to a dermatologist yesterday, about a black line under my toe nail. I expected him to send me on my way reassured it was just one of those things. Instead he has told me I need a biopsy and will get the appointment in the next week or so (cue panic).
The line has been under my toe nail for at least 8/9 months. If this is Melanoma is this going to be too late for effective treatment?
And has anyone had a biopsy and it turned out not to be cancer? The dermatologist said looking at it he was sure it wasn’t blood, which rules out trauma so what else could it be?
I’m in a real state and don’t know how to talk myself down.

Its not cancer. Thank God. The appointment was to tell me that it was a mole that was showing precancerous changes. But it’s gone and nothing further needs doing. I feel so silly for wasting all of your time. I’m really sorry for being such a drama queen.

@Froomp brilliant news! So that's both of us in the clear of subungal melanoma. I have a subungal but haematoma ( had a bit of a moment when I got the letter but gave head a wobble). Hurrah! Do celebrate for an evening. Enjoy being free of that horrible worry. So pleased for you.

Freaking0ut · 16/10/2019 20:56

@Froomp that’s great news! So pleased for you. Don’t apologise at all. It’s a bloody horrid thing to go through.

The big thing I took away from my own melanoma was how important it is that I look after myself. I’d put off seeing a doctor for so long when I really should have gone so much sooner, so now I always encourage everyone I know not to leave it, to get checked out ASAP.

Flowers for you OP, be kind to yourself over the coming days and weeks, it’s a scary thing you’ve been through xx

99GreenBalloons · 16/10/2019 21:37
