Suspected infection, unsure where.

Rang 999 after he was hard to wake and sensitive to light this afternoon. Blue lights came, temp of 39.5, low oxygen. Ambulance to hospital with oxygen mask etc.
Poor dh forgot the formula and bottle so has to drive home again to get it. He was just stressed and feels bad now.
We are awaiting assessment in emergency dept, DS is drifting in and out.
Anyone about for a handhold? I'm scared

He's just had bloods done and I obviously informed of sickness. Every parent in this waiting room is on their phones, DS is asleep

Hope he is ok

AwdBovril · 20/09/2019 00:06

Hope they find out what the infection is & sort out some medicine for him really soon. And that you have a relatively peaceful night. Flowers

Could he have chronic constipation? My ds was older but woke up unable to speak, high temp, I couldnt touch him because he was in so much pain. My GP sent us straight to children's hospital where he was admitted, after being there over 8 hours they decided he was impacted, gave him an enema & within an hour of him being sat on loo sweating, throwing up & the biggest poo I have ever seen his temperature dropped back to normal & the pain stopped, we were allowed home after 10 hours.

HappyBumbleBee · 20/09/2019 00:13

Really hope you get some answers soon and your little fella is soon back to full health OP.
You're in the best place and I WISH many moons ago I'd had somewhere like here to post to when awaiting drs/test results etc in a & e with my lads over the years! Sometimes you're sat for hours, watching your child sleep, alone as dp is at home minding other kids, or worse, they're sat with you feeling equally as helpless!
Hope you've been able to get a cup of tea for yourself and you have some answers soon xxx

FairyDust92 · 20/09/2019 00:21

Biggest hand hold for you OP Thanks.
I hope your LO makes a full speedy recovery.
Sorry you've had some shitty responses they seem to be out tonight. Xx

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/09/2019 00:22

I can’t even contemplate what you’re going through. Praying for you both and your little one as pp says. He’s the best place. XFlowersBear

DS has been admitted to hospital. We are waiting for a bed on the ward but at the moment he is in a bed rather than cot so while he is resting, I am panicking that he is going to roll out.
Sent dh home so at least one of us can get some sleep. Currently been awake 21 hours and counting (as someone suffering chronic fatigue, this is a shitter). Good news is bloods haven't thrown up a bacterial infection so unless one develops, this is hopefully viral and over soon

Glad to hear they are keeping him and the tests sound hopeful. You poor things, him and you. Can you perhaps get in the bed and hold him while you rest? Are there sides on the bed? That would provide a little protection. Not good though.

💐🧁☕️ for you.

Knitclubchatter · 20/09/2019 02:58

does the stretcher not have side rails to pull up?

Sorryfofty · 20/09/2019 03:06

I understand how terrifying it can be. Just last week we were in hospital with my DS. I was up a and e 3 times in 48 hours as they kept telling me it was viral but I knew something was wrong. They finally did a chest x ray and he has a chest infection. My DS also became drowsy and not himself at all I was really worrying but when he had medicine he perked up like your little boy. Hopefully they find what is wrong but if you feel that he is still not right or you're not happy with what they have said to you question it. Hopefully he will be on the mend very soon.

BalloonDinosaur · 20/09/2019 03:08

How rubbish for you OP, I'm sorry. I hope they get you up to the ward ASAP and you can get some rest. Fingers crossed DS is feeling much better in the morning Thanks

HuloBeraal · 20/09/2019 03:13

It’s not obvious but those beds have rails. Just ask someone. Fingers crossed it will get better. Get some sleep before ward rounds tomorrow and write down any questions you have before hand.

HuloBeraal · 20/09/2019 03:14

You can pull up the sides and sleep in the bed with him (can you tell I have done this before?). Sadly DS2 has been admitted far too many times. And get DH to bring you food tomorrow morning.

ememem84 · 20/09/2019 04:04

Try and get some sleep. It’s so scary when they’re ill.

Dh took ds to a&e a couple of weeks ago (after phoning out of hours dr) because he had croup. They were there a couple of hours. I had to stay home with dd. I was terrified (and we knew he’d most likely be home straight away).

Dd now has a cold. She’s miserable snotty and fussy (7 weeks). It sucks when they can’t tell you what’s going on.

HenSolo · 20/09/2019 07:53

Ugh you poor thing. My ds was 11 months when he was in a&e and I remember being weirdly jealous of the parents with older children that could just go in the beds without the worry of falling out. I hope they found a cot and you are resting. This is all so so tough but you will get through it.

Chocolatecake12 · 20/09/2019 07:58

How is he (and you) this morning? Hopefully he’s feeling a bit brighter - he will bounce back from this quickly - it will take you a lot longer!! Brewmorning coffee

jobbinggogger · 20/09/2019 08:27

Good morning! I hope you got some sleep and that the little one is on the mend

StressyDressyHeels · 20/09/2019 08:46

Hi OP, how are things this morning?

Thegracefuloctopus · 20/09/2019 09:19

Morning, thanks for coming back.
He is going through phases of being brighter and then exhausted again. He has had a suction tube up his nose this morning and we are still trying to get this urine sample.
They got him a cot and me a recliner so I've had about 2 hours sleep, him a lot more than that bless him. He's had some toast this morning but not a lot.
My stress levels are sky high. We are moving house tomorrow and not packed a lot as we needed it all and planned to do it today. Dh also needs to shave the doors in the new place as they don't close over the new carpet, despite being told they would.
Hoping they find out what it was and can send us home. Part of me wants to just go home but the other part (most of me) wants to know what it was so we can look out for it again of we need to. But that involves a lot of poking and prodding of DS and its breaking all our hearts.
An angel of a nurse came in this morning with a coffee and jam toast for me which was heaven

I’m so glad your DS isn’t worse at least but poor you. How overwhelming it must be.

Hurrah for jam toast (my autocorrect wanted to make that “ham toast” Confused).

Damntheman · 20/09/2019 10:08

Oh OP I have so much sympathy for you! My eldest was blue-lighted to hospital when he was 15 months and it remains easily and by far the worst day of my life. The stress is real! And of course there is a whole ton of waiting to be done where you just need to distract yourself with the internet.

Crossing fingers for your lovely little one. I hope you got some rest.

ThelmaDinkley · 20/09/2019 11:13

Aww OP you have got a lot on your plate! I hope little one improves today and you can discover what it is. Good luck with the house move too FlowersBrewCake

Newuseroftheweek · 20/09/2019 11:59

Hope things are improving.

May not be helpful, but just as another idea.
My son had Adenovirus at that exact age. High temps, floppy and boiling for periods and he would vomit up anything he had had. But responded very well to Panadol and would perk up. I made them give him Panadol the minute I saw his temperature rising. He was put on a drip but it kept coming out. Problem is keeping them hydrated while the virus works through him. He wasn't that obviously sick other than the high temperature, which was over 40, and symptoms during those spikes. No cold type symptoms etc.

I think we were in hospital for 3 nights. No actual treatment other than monitoring. Sorry to say....

Thegracefuloctopus · 20/09/2019 13:05

He has thankfully been discharged. He's not in my good books, he turned his nose up at the elephant toy I bought him Hmm(obviously joking!)
They have said most likely and absent seizure due to flu. We have been told to hydrate him often and just let him sleep. He seems a lot better at home but he has slept all morning so that might have something to do with it. The tiredness is hitting me now. Just so so glad he's OK. Thank you all for your support.
