Suspected infection, unsure where.

Rang 999 after he was hard to wake and sensitive to light this afternoon. Blue lights came, temp of 39.5, low oxygen. Ambulance to hospital with oxygen mask etc.
Poor dh forgot the formula and bottle so has to drive home again to get it. He was just stressed and feels bad now.
We are awaiting assessment in emergency dept, DS is drifting in and out.
Anyone about for a handhold? I'm scared

Keep your energy up, find the chocolate machine and get a supply to munch on from time to time.

Watch your phone battery. It is invaluable to get support but you need to conserve the battery.

Don't be afraid to report changes and don't be fobbed off. They really are so busy and will be easily distracted.

Hopefully he'll pick up soon xx

LampHat · 19/09/2019 20:38

Sending all good thoughts to you and your little one. He’s in good hands now, so remember to look after yourself as well. And keep enjoying his little trumps! Flowers xxx

Hand hold here. Hoping that they find the cause and that your little one is on the mend as soon as possible

Little ones do go downhill fast but they also come up quickly with the right treatment too and you're in the best place to get that.

CottonSock · 19/09/2019 20:44

Yes do conserve the phone battery. Power saving mode now? If his condition is changing tell the nurses straight away. Remember to drink something.

Sunflower160 · 19/09/2019 20:46

Holding your hand, OP.

MiniMaxi · 19/09/2019 20:47

Handhold OP.

Specifically ask them to test for sepsis.

Hope he feels better soon.

Sirzy · 19/09/2019 20:48

If your dh isn’t back yet ask him to pack an overnight bag just incase.

Hope you get answers soon, the not knowing is awful x

Doobydoo · 19/09/2019 20:55

Handhold here OP. Like others have said do not be afraid to push. It is very scary. Xx

Thegracefuloctopus · 19/09/2019 21:07

Thank you all for your support, apart from @lovemenorca who can frankly, do one.
In my manic frenzy of ambulance prep, I grabbed the phone charger.
DS seems to have perked up a bit thank god. They want us to get a wee sample from him (how the fuck do I do that!) and he needs bloods. Temp is now 39.1. He is currently sat in his dad's arms blowing raspberries. I'm so happy to see him smile again.

Cocking his leg to fart 😂😂😂 ah he sounds like such a little character, I'm so pleased he seems to be feeling a bit better, I have a 9 month old and couldnt imagine the worry and upset! I hope he's home, happy and healthy ASAP. Treat yourself to lazy weekend with lots of play and cuddles Smile

Miljah · 19/09/2019 21:13

Please don't do the 'they can do one' thing.

While possibly not the right time, heading straight to a SM site in times like this does seem a bit odd.

Glad your child seems to be on the mend!

Magissa · 19/09/2019 21:14

A good way to get a sample is take his socks off and stand him in a sink with water in... As if he was getting in the bath... Have a cup ready to catch the pee.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 19/09/2019 21:15

So pleased for you OP. Lovemenorca just seems to shit on most posters- keep ignoring.

We are here if you want to keep talking.

INeedNewShoes · 19/09/2019 21:21

Rubbing a very cold baby wipe or cold wet cotton wool on the lower tummy where the bladder is can encourage a wee.

The paediatrician showed me this trick when we were in with DD as a baby.

FuckFacePlatapus · 19/09/2019 21:22

I would find it very strange to find a parent posting on MN when their baby had been blue lighted in, and i am an A&E nurse, most parents have not got the time because there busy with their child.

And the staff know how to do their jobs, they do this day in day out. I wish all you lot on here would stop adding to the drama.

coastergirl · 19/09/2019 21:25

It's so nice when they perk up. I remember my little one running around the department stark naked (we were supposed to be measuring wee output as they were worried about dehydration) when half an hour earlier he was unresponsive. I've never been so happy to see his cheeky little bare bottom. Fingers crossed for continued improvement.

Not sure why people need to be negative. You came here for support from people who might have gone through similar. I hope that's mostly what you got.

Sirzy · 19/09/2019 21:26

Having sat in hospital with Ds on many occasions I can fully get why parents distract themselves or look for people who can provide support and advice

Frith2013 · 19/09/2019 21:26

They can give you a little adhesive bag to get a wee sample.

Glad he’s picking up a bit.

lovemenorca · 19/09/2019 21:26

All I said was to lean on people on real life!

I have been in a&e with my youngest. Admitted for 10 nights with double pneumonia.

Any starting a thread on mumsnet was the last bloody thing on my mind.

I would find it very strange to find a parent posting on MN when their baby had been blue lighted in, and i am an A&E nurse, most parents have not got the time because there busy with their child.

And I’m not unusual in that.

I’m not judging. However I am baffled that in such a serious situation - a truly serious situation - starting a mumsnet thread is of value.

I gently suggested to lean on RL support, and the OP referred to her DH

FuckFacePlatapus · 19/09/2019 21:27

Posted too soon, @Thegracefuloctopus hope your little one is feeling better, the staff should be able to press a urine dipstick on his nappy.

FuckFacePlatapus · 19/09/2019 21:33

@lovemenorca it is unusual, you are not wrong, but as long as the little one is getting the right care then hopefully he will feel a lot better soon.

Kaykay06 · 19/09/2019 21:35

@Frith2013 not if they want a sterile sample they won’t put a bag on.
We give a sterile foil bowl, fun times sitting for however long trying to catch a pee though, but always needed to rule out uti/sepsis.

I’m glad he’s perked up now, they give you such a fright too. I don’t blame anyone for being on their phones, waiting can be so hard and I’m sure if ops baby was very sick and being worked on she wouldn’t be on here, but many people have been through the same or have specific experience with sick children on here so it’s not a bad place to come and ask for advice. There are people who go on their phones at inappropriate times, sometimes a distraction or a coping mechanism. You will also be able to stay with your baby on the ward if he’s admitted usually just one of you.

I Hope you are settled in for the night soon and your lo is feeling better soon. If you’re worried in meantime ask the nurses to check his temp/have a look at him in between normal observations. Good luck with the urine sample

Tolleshunt · 19/09/2019 21:36

Baffled that OP is getting criticised for posting on MN. The one thing that has characterised every single A&E attendance for me/DC has been endless waiting. The ratio of waiting time to face time with HCPs is massive. There will be aeons of time for OP to post in, without compromising anything important, trust me.

lovemenorca · 19/09/2019 21:36

@FuckFacePlatapus

Agreed
