Suspected infection, unsure where.

Rang 999 after he was hard to wake and sensitive to light this afternoon. Blue lights came, temp of 39.5, low oxygen. Ambulance to hospital with oxygen mask etc.
Poor dh forgot the formula and bottle so has to drive home again to get it. He was just stressed and feels bad now.
We are awaiting assessment in emergency dept, DS is drifting in and out.
Anyone about for a handhold? I'm scared

Thinking of you. It’s heart wrenching. My 3 yr old was rushed in by ambulance last year. Temp was 41. He had pneumonia. The day before, he was completely fine. So scary. Trust them though. If in doubt though, don’t take any chances, ask or nudge them. Don’t feel you have to wait if your instincts are screaming otherwise at you. Sensible doctors trust sensible parents instincts. X

If you feel he’s getting worse please don’t be afraid to make a fuss and tell the nurses. They need to know. Thinking of you, you must be terrified but you are all in the right place Flowers

Shadow01 · 19/09/2019 19:25

Flowers handhold here too.
You’re in the right place and you know him better then anyone else so make a fuss if you feel like things are getting overlooked.
We’ll be right here with you.

Thinking of you and your little one OP.

Thegracefuloctopus · 19/09/2019 19:34

Thank you all. They've just assessed him and said it's not bronciolitus whu h they first thought but they think he has an infection that could be anywhere in his body. They are calling pediactrics for further tests. I've never seen him like this, he's practically unresponsive. He went down hill so quickly. But he's still managing to make me laugh as he keeps cocking his leg to fart!!!

If you think he is getting worse make sure you tell the nurses.
Don’t be afraid to make a fuss, you need to be your baby’s voice.

Sending love and strength to you.

Hope your child will be ok and you will all be home soon.

Thegracefuloctopus · 19/09/2019 19:38

I just feel numb. Like I have no tears because I'm so shocked we're here. He was in soft play this morning then this afternoon just plummeted. I don't even know what to feel or tell myself. Other than thank the heavens above for the nhs

Hugs for you and your little boy op xx

Hairydilemma · 19/09/2019 19:47

Thinking of you and wishing your boy well. My DS was poorly with an infection when he was three weeks old.. it’s horrifically scary as parents but as pps have said, the medical staff know what they’re doing and will have seen it before. Take care of yourself, you won’t want to eat but make yourself. Hugs xx

Babies can go downhill very fast but they can also pick up quickly too. Hang in there! Flowers

@Hawkinsfirefly99 my little girl has had 4 febrile convulsions and agree I feel for you OP it is awful and so stressful when they are poorly and in hospital. Hope you get seen soon

Zoflorabore · 19/09/2019 19:55

Sending my love and best wishes op.
Such a scary time. He is absolutely in the best place. We live 10 minutes from Alder Hey and I thank my lucky stars for the NHS.

Echoing pp’s that said do not be afraid to be a nuisance if any change. Once he is properly assessed and given meds he will start to feel a bit brighter. Glad he’s making you laugh Wink xx
