I have a true crime obsession. I cannot listen to podcasts when the DCs are around.

Please spam me with book recommendations, blogs and podcasts (I can put headphones in and ignore my family)

Currently listen to CrimeJunkies and My Favourite Murder.

Podcast - Paradise on BBC sounds. It's bloody brilliant

QueenofLouisiana · 17/09/2019 18:58

The Teachers Pet
The lady vanishes
UK True Crime (the host won’t suit everyone, but the stories are good)
They walk among us
Casefile

Those are my podcasts of choice. I am currently catching up on Crime Junkies atm- even if it is a bit overly scripted.

Small Town Murder is a great podcast!

ThatCurlyGirl · 17/09/2019 19:14

I don't know what I'd do without Casefile now. And there are SO many episodes.

Also give All Killa No Filla a try - it's AMAZING. Makes me laugh out loud even when I listen to it in public. It's now one of my favourite podcasts ever.

MooominMamma · 17/09/2019 19:16

Another that was going to suggest MFM . . . so addicted right now.

Pootle40 · 17/09/2019 19:34

Oh and Confronting OJ Simpson which is hosted by Ron Goldman's sister

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 17/09/2019 20:04

Oh I love Casefile.
I have ‘Teachers Pet’ and ‘Cold’ lined up for when I finish them all.

Will watch this thread with interest.

ItsHedLey · 17/09/2019 20:11

Are there any podcasts that are like case file? I've tried a Couple of other ones and fuck me they're tedious! Seeing Red was completely dreadful the female presenter added nothing at all

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 17/09/2019 20:15

Yes, you can get rather used to ‘Casey’ can’t you, ItsHedley? 🙂

I do worry than when I move on to something else the voice and style will be wrong!

OneMoose · 17/09/2019 20:20

I'm a huge podcast obsessive!

Bearbrook
In the dark
Serial (as many posters have recommended)
Cold

Tana433 · 17/09/2019 20:20

If you can get YouTube, Eleanor Neale and Danelle Hallan both do good murder/missing/solved cases.

leomama81 · 17/09/2019 20:49

I'm obsessed by True Crime podcasts - am getting to the point where I'm running out! Audible has a couple of really good ones - West Cork, of which there is going to be a second series soon, and Body of Proof, which I'm listening to at the moment.

Another good British one is Murder in the Graveyard.

On the US front, Up and Vanished, In the Dark, Hell and Gone, Uncover, also second The Clearing which is a really interesting angle about a daughter who realizes her dad is a serial killer and tries to trace back all his crimes.

Teacher's Pet is great, as is Who the Hell is Hamish? (also Australian).

MayorMumbum · 17/09/2019 20:50

I've found my people Grin. I am an obsessive listener of true crime podcasts.
Last Podcast On The left is my favourite but not for the easily offended.
Serial
Casefile
Someone Knows Something (this one is excellent and the presenters voice is so soothing)
Atlanta Monster
Criminal
Happy Face
In The Dark
My Favourite Murder
Sword And Scale
Man In The Window
The Vanished

There are tons. I use the Beyond Pod App on my phone, its free and you can find most of them on there and easily create a play list. If you haven't listened to the first season of Serial I would give that a listen first, it is phenomenal.

As for authors, I'm another huge fan of Ann Rule, you can't really do better in the True Crime genre.
In Cold Blood by Capote is really amazing also.

Laura221 · 17/09/2019 20:53

Another vote for red handed, I binged it and now have to wait for it every week sad times.
Drunk women solving crime is good too.

Thanks for all the other suggestions too I'm off to subscribe to a few.

ThePawtriarchy · 17/09/2019 20:56

Another vote for The Lady Vanishes

Pixilicious · 17/09/2019 20:58

Wonderland Murders
In the dark
Dr death
Over my dead body
The shrink next door
Up and vanished
Atlanta monster
The man in the window

TankGirl97 · 17/09/2019 20:59

Real Crime Profile. It’s two profilers giving their thoughts on various true crime programmes. I’ve just listened to an episode on Nicole Brown Simpson (killed by OJ Simpson) and it was really fascinating and insightful, it’s taught me a lot about domestic violence (as has mumsnet).
Also Redhanded is great.

ArsenicNLace · 17/09/2019 21:04

The True Crime Enthusiast (british)
Once Upon a Crime (American)
Court Junkie (American)
Canadian True Crime
Moms and Murder (Amercian)
Casefile (Australian but covers crime world wide)
They Walk Among Us (British)

MadeForThis · 17/09/2019 21:06

What podcast apps does everyone use? These all sound amazing but I've never listened to podcasts before. I use an iPhone.

Liadan · 17/09/2019 21:58

Generation Why is excellent. The guys speak with lovely, chilled tones and I could listen to them all day. True Crime Obsessed is the opposite. The presenters are hyper but hilarious. I look forward to a new episode every week. Crime Junkies used to be my favourite podcast but it's hard to listen now, knowing about all the plagiarism. Serial was the first podcast I listened to and it really is amazing. Nothing I've listened to since has touched it.

This series is really good about a woman who fell down a rubbish chute
