Today my daughter came home in tears. I am so proud of her.

She''s not a little girl, but a 25 year old nurse in a children's hospice.
It was her dream job from graduation and she puts her heart and soul into it. Sometimes children with life limiting disabilities come for respite, and fun, sometimes they come for end of life care. This weekend has been one of those, caring for an 8 year old passing away riddled with cancer, then today caring for a tiny baby whose diagnosis means she has days to live, but is fully alert and smiling in between the tubes and syringe drivers easing her pain.
My daughter came home to curl into my lap and cry for the children and their families, crying for the parents of the tiny smiling baby who never had a chance.
I don't know how she does it, but dear god I am proud of her and wanted to say it somewhere.

I started Nursing in the early 70's.
Couldn't do what your daughter is doing - ever.
I take my hat off to her, and everyone doing similar Flowers

Your daughter is amazing. She should be so proud of herself, but please keep an eye on her mental health. She will need someone to take care of her too.

Biggie123 · 15/09/2019 22:13

Made me well up too.
Those poor poor children and their families. How humbling it must be to see them facing pain and death.
And your gorgeous girl- how heartburstingly proud you must feel of her to be there and doing the best she can to support them.
You must have been/be a fantastic mother that she can handle it...

What a selfless and compassionate woman you’ve raised OP!! I don’t know how nurses like her do it, I really truly don’t. How beyond proud you must be that she’s giving her life to help others Flowers

GallopingGreen · 15/09/2019 22:19

Thank goodness there are people in this world like your daughter. You are right to be extremely proud! She must be very resilient- make sure she also gets taken care of and counselling if she ever needs it. A good cry on your mum's lap is very good for you too Smile
