Today my daughter came home in tears. I am so proud of her.

She''s not a little girl, but a 25 year old nurse in a children's hospice.
It was her dream job from graduation and she puts her heart and soul into it. Sometimes children with life limiting disabilities come for respite, and fun, sometimes they come for end of life care. This weekend has been one of those, caring for an 8 year old passing away riddled with cancer, then today caring for a tiny baby whose diagnosis means she has days to live, but is fully alert and smiling in between the tubes and syringe drivers easing her pain.
My daughter came home to curl into my lap and cry for the children and their families, crying for the parents of the tiny smiling baby who never had a chance.
I don't know how she does it, but dear god I am proud of her and wanted to say it somewhere.

This has brought tears to my ears too. Your dd is doing and outstanding job in a really tough environment.

You are right to be proud of her. You should also be proud of yourself for raising an amazing young woman.

More watery eyes here. You have an amazing daughter, never let her forget it. Give her extra hugs from us too. My friends daughter is life limited and she describes the nurses as angels.

Sagradafamiliar · 15/09/2019 22:26

It breaks my heart just to think about. Thank God for people like your amazing daughter. Really, truly.

Walkingthedog46 · 15/09/2019 22:27

What a wonderful young woman. You are right to be so proud of her. She deserves all our thanks for doing such vital work.

StayInYourLaneBoy · 15/09/2019 22:28

What a lovely and also heartbreaking thing to read after that thread last week by a nurse saying she doesn't care one bit about her patients and actually hates people.

The world needs more people like your wonderful, caring, compassionate daughter Flowers

What a special person, I can’t imagine how incredibly painful her job must be at times, but what a wonderful gift. To be with the sick and vulnerable, especially the little ones, during this time, and to care for them and make the time they have feel as comfortable and safely possible, well, she is an angel on earth. Thank you for telling us about her.

LindaLyndell · 15/09/2019 22:29

shiningstar2 · 15/09/2019 22:29

What a truly amazing daughter you have op. How she does her job day after day providing both practical and emotional support is incredible ...and only 25 herself. A very special person and you must be a very special mother to have nurtured her. Best wishes to her and you.

Your daughter is a hero ❤️

And bless those poor families who are in the hospice. How lucky they are to have a daughter like you're looking after them though.

What a lovely and also heartbreaking thing to read after that thread last week by a nurse saying she doesn't care one bit about her patients and actually hates people.

Very unfair and unnecessary to bring that up here. She was obviously on the verge of burning out.

Another one with watery eyes here - what a wonderful daughter you have!

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/09/2019 22:47

Your daughter is amazing Flowers

StillMedusa · 15/09/2019 22:48

She's just a normal , funny, sometimes sarcastic, and lovely girl. She moved back home after a couple of years living away and I love having her back (saving for a house but we live in a v expensive part of the uk)

I also work with severely disabled children..a couple of 'mine' go to her hospice for respite, but I could never do what she does; she has a way with not just the children, but the families that helps them survive at the worst times.

But I'm glad she has us to come home to, because no matter how professional she is, she's a girl who has to watch children die, and care for them before and after death. And days like that need Mum cuddles!

Please support your local hospices, the children's ones rely almost entirely on donations, and they are a haven.

Your daughter is amazing, you deserve to be so proud. Stories like this put things into perspective, I see post after post about trivial things people want to know are they unreasonable about, yesterday someone wanted to complain about a dinner lady eating a fish finger, then you read stories of young children and babies at the end of their short short lives & it really makes you realise just how precious life is & how truley unfair it is.
People waste so much time on trivial pathetic things. Your daughter is an angel in my eyes & I would be proud too x

Zofloraqueen27 · 15/09/2019 22:52

What a truly amazing person she undoubtedly is. You are very rightly proud of her and you are wonderful too to have raised such an awesome daughter.

Her little patients are cared for by a very special nurse and to know she has been there for them and cared for them to the end is the true meaning of the love she has for them. She is truly an Angel.
