Can you really make significant money from matched betting? how?

I've seen a lot of people talking about matched betting as a way to make easy money so I've signed up to profit accumulator. Just waiting for my first free bet to settle, I think I stand to make about £20 profit. Scrolling down the other free bet offers, the profits available are pretty negligible - nothing over £100 and mostly £20 or less. People on here talk about making thousands on matched betting but I don't see how, unless you plough all your winnings back into bets, in which case you only make money when you decide to stop, presumably? As that's when you take all your winnings out? Is that right? I thought it was an ongoing way of making money that you could actually spend rather than just using as the stake for your next matched bet.

I made about £500 just before Christmas last year. I followed the starter instructions on one of the websites, only took about a month and I could have made more if I'd stuck to the instructions and not experimented with my own ideas 😂

It is time consuming when you first start, as you need to double check what you're doing, I stopped because my bf and kids were always making comments about me "being on the computer again" i wasn't doing it for fun, so the constant comments pissed me off.

You need at least £200 to get started, the more you have the quicker you can get going. I'm going to get back into it soon as the bf is gone and I have more free time in the evenings again.

YesQueen · 15/09/2019 13:01

You can. The more you have available to use as liability and to generate profit, the more you can make and the quicker you can get bets on which is why people plough it back in
For example when Cheltenham was on, I used £1000 in my exchange and I could have used it 10 times over because there were so many offers. It also means you're not waiting for bets to settle before you can put more on
Same with the reload offers like 2up - your profit is more if you do a £100 bet than a £20 bet
Plus low risk casino you need a bigger bank to start with
It is making money but say you make £1000 and withdraw it all - you can't then carry on without using either that or your own money to profit more. So most people carry on sort of recycling the money to make more, but you could say withdraw £500 and use the other £500

What is matched betting?

cheesesoftheworld · 15/09/2019 14:05

I've made £119K in 3 years.

SpaceCadet4000 · 15/09/2019 14:09

I did it a few years back and made about £100 a month with a sizeable seed fund (I can't remember exactly how much). I could have made more with more effort. You can also build up your fund by always reinvesting your winnings in matched betting.

It's better to think of it as getting an amazing return on savings because the profits are so closely linked to the money you're putting down.

happinessischocolate · 15/09/2019 14:34

@yesqueen I still don't understand low risk casino 🙁

Do you know of any good guides?

cheesesoftheworld · 15/09/2019 14:37

team casino are good for low risk casino

YesQueen · 15/09/2019 14:40

Yeah I agree with team casino. Start simple too with something like wager £5, get 5 free spins
I do (every day) gala bingo, William hill, betfred, party poker and then other offers as I see them

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 15/09/2019 14:41

I've made £3k since January and I've only bothered opening a few accounts. All those odd £5, £10 and £20s add up.

happinessischocolate · 15/09/2019 15:22

Thanks that's great I'll have a look at team casino tonight

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 15/09/2019 18:21

I’m really tempted to try this, but dont know if it’s another version of the mythical roast chicken lasting a week, same as making thousands on MB.

roseenglishrose · 15/09/2019 18:29

I consistently made £100+ a week (& nearly £500 in Cheltenham week) in 5/6 months this year. I've stopped for a while as we are remortgaging (& I don't want the gambling transactions on my recent bank statements) but I miss making the money while sitting on the loo/waiting for the kettle to boil/etc. I didn't have a big bank and am quite risk adverse and lazy too so easily could have made more than that.

Hiredandsqueak · 15/09/2019 18:29

Ds2 has made about £20k in the last year and other ds1 about £15k in the same time. The difference between them is ds will place bets that will win him pennies where ds2 generally wants at least a couple of quid. Ds2 hasn't been banned from as many sites as ds1 has either.

YesQueen · 15/09/2019 18:44

@SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge I'm a fairly average person. As in I had never placed a bet before online, and it made no sense to me at first. I read everything about 10 times and it started to sink in. I followed a guide and did a few bets and then joined the team profit FB group where I could ask silly questions!
Started a little bit of casino. Now I do maybe 85% casino and the rest bets, more bets on weekends and big events
I make anything from £10 to £400 a week depending how the casino goes! Today I made £44, yesterday I was down £7 (casino offers aren't guaranteed profit)

@andynexus why would anyone want to sign up with you and be charged 25% of their profits? Reported.

Kazzyhoward · 16/09/2019 12:49

The key is to do LOTS of reading and research and fully understand ALL aspects before you start. I've had a lot of clients who've lost money, and very few who've made anything. It's VERY time consuming to do it properly.

roseenglishrose · 16/09/2019 12:49

@Andynexus, how fucking patronising. I am much more than a 'new Mum'.

I wouldn't come near you and your crappy company. Oddsmonkey tutorials and forum are perfectly sufficient to make £400-£500 per month (& much more) for a charge of £17.99 per month.

roseenglishrose · 16/09/2019 12:51

@Kazzyhoward this is incorrect. It is not time consuming apart from triple checking your first few bets, then you get into the groove. Its an easy way to make money. I dont understand how anyone could do the opening offers and NOT make money?

pistolknight · 16/09/2019 12:52

It’s not time consuming at all I place bets on my mobile out and about it’s really simple once you get the hang of it.

Kazzyhoward · 16/09/2019 13:54

Unfortunately, a lot of people jump straight in without doing the learning/research needed, so they don;t really know what they're doing.

FreckledLeopard · 16/09/2019 13:58

I've made £11,000 in two years. I'm doing very little at present as too busy at work, but you can easily make £1500 just from the sign ups and initial reload offers.

Oddsmonkey and Team Profit are good places to start.

SinittasDancers · 16/09/2019 19:07

Hi all, thanks for your responses - sorry I've been at work.

Ok so I've just done my first free bet - is the one where your supposed to make money. The 'liability' for the lay bet was £100 so I added that to that account. The other bet won so I won £90, but all of the 'liability' money is gone from the other account - so basically I'm £10 down. I don't understand - I only actually placed £30 on the lay bet. Is this how liability money works, and if do how do you make money, how do you not just break even every time??

OP posts:
baldpate · 16/09/2019 19:43

What were the odds that you placed and laid at? For a bet that’s a 30 pound free one you should have made 24ish

SinittasDancers · 16/09/2019 19:47

The odds were 4.0 and 4.5 as per the profit accumulator website. What I'm really unsure of is this money you have to have in your account to place a lay bet - it looks like I've lost all of it even though I didn't use it as my stake - is that right?
