Dodgy emails ransom demand 😂

Opened an email in my junk folder which says they know all my passwords (and possibly did guess one of them). It didn't display a list just the one that I think they've guessed. Now I'm being held to ransom! If I dont give them $1000 ALL of my personal info will be displayed online, along with photos and messages.
Ok so I've checked my little book of important passwords and the one they mentioned is not in there. At first I was a a bit worried but you know what? I don't even have $100 in my account so I'm stuffed arent I?
I actually think it's quite funny tbh. Of all the people in the world they picked someone boring and skint ha.
I actually think though, that others could be quite worried about this or be duped. I wonder how common these types of email are? I've had the PayPal, tvlisence, bank account spam emails but never something like this Shock.

Oh I've had one of those too only the ransom was to be paid in bitcoins. They also said they had gained remote access to my laptop and would send footage of me "pleasuring myself" to all my contacts.
I thought at the time it was a whole new low level for spam.

holyshitdude · 12/09/2019 14:34

I've had these, after doing a google search it looks like they're quite common, just ignore.

NearLifeExperience · 12/09/2019 14:35

I had one recently. Apparently they all about what I’ve been up to on the internet: all the dodgy sites, all the immoral interactions... they wanted money not to publish it.

Go ahead, I say! I doubt anyone is really all that interested in my time wasting on Mumsnet, Reddit and eBay! Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 12/09/2019 14:35

They didn’t pick on you, they emailed that out to several hundred / thousand people and waited for someone to take the bait

I am not sure how people still fall for this stuff

TooTrueToBeGood · 12/09/2019 14:37

They have not hacked you. They've got a password you used on a site that has been previously hacked. It's an extremely common scam. Ignore the email but you should make sure you are not using that password on any other sites and look into strengthening your overall password strategy.

Anthilda · 12/09/2019 15:20

I agree @TooTrueToBeGood! Although most of my passwords are for cookery sites/ebay/youtube etc (I dont even have social media) I do think I shud mix my passwords up a bit more or change them from time to time. @Hiredandsqueak that was also part of the email; they said they have direct contact to my camera etc and that the are watching me Grin

This will probably be my last post ever as I had a voicemail from HMRC saying they are coming to arrest me unless I called them back on a specific number and not the one from Google, so just waiting for the coppers knock now. I think you'll be ok not paying the ransom Grin

Funghi · 12/09/2019 17:25

I had one sent from my own email address. It said they had photos of my watching porn and would out me to all of my contacts if I didn’t pay up. At least some of them are imaginative Grin

nunnun · 12/09/2019 17:40

I had one the other day too. They've seen me masturbating, apparently, and have a video of it which they'll send to all my friends if I don't pay up Shock

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 12/09/2019 17:46

I had one not so long ago...unless I paid them they would show everyone footage from my web-cam....the major flaw in their plan was...I don't have a web-cam and never have Grin

GummyGoddess · 12/09/2019 17:46

I think the best thing about the porn random one is when a manager at work was legitimately panicking over it Grin

Sparklingbrook · 12/09/2019 17:48

Oh yes I had the porn one. They said I had very good taste. Confused

I also had a recorded telephone message from HMRC saying there was a warrant out for my arrest again this week.

GreenwoodLane · 12/09/2019 17:52

There was a poster on here a few months ago who was similarly panicking....

Ferretyone · 12/09/2019 18:12

While not dealing with e-mails I had one of these calls on the phone from HMRC [by whom I was previously employed]. They indeed threatened the police coming round to arrest me unless I got round to paying some largish sum of money over the phone. I got DP to ring the doorbell and pretend to be the police! "The police are actually here and have asked me to keep you talking". The caller was obviously working from a script and did not understand. I kept on with certain inane chatter and repeating the questions till eventually they gave up! Does anyone fall for it?

Sparklingbrook · 12/09/2019 18:23

Well, look what has arrived in my Spam folder today Shock-

Good afternoon, angel)! I am Ñhris, I'm 21 y o. Everything what I would like
is to burn the night-time only with U ;) Do you desire to explore some of my
bikini pics? If
you'll be euphoric by watching these pics, I shall show u pictures that are
much more attractive. Quicken, take a look at my shapes. Maybe U want to
have more? In such scenario we
can hook up with in my hotel and U will be able to feel me, smack my
fantastic bum, feel tight natural titties, squeeze my waist and then finally
come between my legs ;) Msg me in my personal profile!

tryagain22 · 12/09/2019 19:28

Quicken, take a look at my shapes.

Ha that cracked me up!

I've also had the 'I know what you've been looking at online, I've been watching you through your webcam' one. Of course I can't afford to pay the ransom, so my poor family and friends are about to be subjected to webcam footage of me watching TinyKittens on Youtube for hours at a time...oh the horror Shock

Sparklingbrook · 12/09/2019 19:37

Oh yes, my family and friends will be made to watch me watching 1bike1world (a man cycling around the world with a cat) and Mrs Hinch. Blush Grin

Anthilda · 12/09/2019 19:55

These have made me laugh so much Grin

I am handsome with a stunned smile apparently. Sounds about right to me.

but I have to go as Mariah is ready to unveil me after I have sent Ferrel68 $769 in bitcoin, because he was shocked by what he saw on the adult sites where I have fun (apparently his video of me turned out amazing! I am so spectacular!)

Love em.

Zaphodsotherhead · 12/09/2019 20:11

Oh yes, I had the porn one too! I was horribly tempted to email them back and say 'Publish and be damned!' but I didn't.

Neither did I pay them the Bitcoins they asked for. Film of me watching...actually, I don't watch anything on my laptop, maybe some Netflix? hasn't hit the internet yet.

If they actually DID, do you think it would be like GoggleBox, only with porn?

Casander · 12/09/2019 21:01

I got this yesterday too! Apparently they've been watching me through my webcam, I felt like saying well either I'm really sorry or you're welcome depending what you're in to Grin

nancy75 · 12/09/2019 21:06

I get loads on my work email, they’ve all seen me pleasuring myself (via a webcam I don’t have in my open to the public office)

MrsGrindah · 12/09/2019 21:07

Sparkling I can’t stop laughing at that! I’ve had a bad day but that cheered me up no end. Please pass on my thanks and my bank details to Nhris

Sparklingbrook · 12/09/2019 21:09

It's such a fantastic and generous offer isn't it? Grin

CorBlimeyGovenor · 12/09/2019 21:13

@nancy75

You pleasure yourself in an open-plan office? That's disgusting 😉😂
