Has anyone flown BA Premium Economy?

Is it any better? Is it worth it ?

We always do if we need to fly BA now as find that their economy is now similar to a budget airline.
Only 1 meal and 2 glasses of water served on my last 9 hour trip with them in economy and limited choice of films....

Upgraded to Premier on the way home and it was like a different airline. Large comfy seat, bigger TV with better selection of entertainment. A decent hot meal, chosen from a menu, sandwiches before landing, several snacks in between and frequent bar service. Well worth the extra £150 we got it for. Upgraded on arrival at the airport so got a good deal.

It’s usually very similar to economy! I think some regular travellers choose it because it increases the chance of an upgrade to the next cabin... but for most travellers that possibility remains minuscule, it was the right choice for us with an anxious traveller in the family. On our flight it was only slightly more. We wouldn’t have been eligible for the extra legroom seats in economy (disabilities).

Sorry, one last thing. If you are paying for a seat for a small dc check the type of plane. Sometimes in economy all the arm rests fold so adults can annex dc’s spare space! The same plane might have fixed armrests in premium economy (containing the table) so you can’t do this!

Yes yes yes. It is totally worth it. Unless it's like £400 each way more, then you may as well pay business. I don't think I would pay more than £150 more for LHR-JFK as New York is really a 7/8 hour flight which, if you pick a day flight is no different to a lazy day watching TV at home.

If you are flying to South Africa, South America, the Antipodes, or the very Far East, then yes it is worth it.

I pay it just to avoid sitting with those who don't fly often (usually anxious/fuss arses)/chavs and for a more refined, relaxed cabin environment.

Shmithecat2 · 09/09/2019 22:18

Its definitely worth it. I've flown premium economy a few times. The only annoying thing is that the arm tests can't be moved. But much better seat pitch and service. Plus the extra baggage allowance.

Shmithecat2 · 09/09/2019 22:19

With BA that is.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 09/09/2019 22:20

This year my husband got moved into on our long haul. And despite there being plenty of room BA left me and my kids behind. I actually was really angry that they split up our family because surprise surprise the Mum stays behind with the kids.

It was so different he had much much nicer stuff that has been mentioned by previous posters.

We flew out to NYC using American Airlines -their main cabin extra was a delight for £80 extra. Wide comfy seats, great screens, and plentiful service... lots of bottles of water etc. We had two meals too.
Coming home on BA economy was an eye opener. The plane was grubby, dated and the screen so old and bad you could barely watch it. We had no food at all after take off, just one drink and then nothing but a croissant and orange juice shortly before landing. Thank god we ate at the airport.
It's really put me off using BA again tbh.

I’ve met lively people in economy and nice ones in business )and first) in the days eve work paid for that! Premium economy can have more .. um.. intentional.. travellers. Angling for the upgrade & etc.

gaturmen · 09/09/2019 22:23

Ha yeah sure

OneEpisode · 09/09/2019 22:23

Lovely! Not lively!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 09/09/2019 22:24

I also don’t think that if I had been sat where DH was sat they would have upgraded me. They said it was because the man next to dh was so large but because I am a small women I doubt I would have got upgraded for sitting next to a large man. The airline stewardess took a liking to my husband- it still makes me boil when I think of it.

Not that much difference to economy in my opinion, I used to fly BA a lot with work, then had a sabbatical, when I started travelling again they upgraded me to Premier and it was marginally more comfortable and definitely quieter, worth it for long trips

Shmithecat2 · 09/09/2019 22:47

@thaibeereeus how long is the flight?

HappyHammy · 09/09/2019 22:50

Where are you flying too

BanjoStarz · 09/09/2019 22:54

I’m currently refusing to fly BA with work as premium economy is so bad (luckily most of the routes I fly in I can use other carriers for the same if not cheaper price)

Honestly, I don’t know what it is about BA but they’re awful. Last time I flew premium economy on the A380 the seats were hard and uncomfortable, the meal service rushed, drink service non existent and the breakfast before landing was basically inedible.

If you can find a different carrier flying the same route pick them (if you can an find a UAE carrier flying that route even better!)

jackstini · 09/09/2019 23:21

Does it have to be BA; what's the route?

BA is ok if it's not too much of a premium
I've found Virgin and Norwegian to be more comfortable

Brooklynninenineninetynine · 09/09/2019 23:27

I've booked a long haul flight with BA and just realised there's no checked in luggage included
If I upgrade to premium will thisngibe a luggage allowance?
Also when is the best time to upgrade? Last minute or as far in advance as possible?

Brooklynninenineninetynine · 09/09/2019 23:28

Ps. Sorry to hijack the thread Blush

SpaceCadet4000 · 09/09/2019 23:47

Where are you flying to/from? BA's premium economy is worth it if you're on a newer plane. I don't like AA's updated premium economy though, so I'm not sure it's as worth if it you're on a codeshare.

drsausage · 10/09/2019 00:01

The problem is it's still BA, and they are a truly shit airline.

I've flown BA Premium Economy. The flight itself was OK. The rest was appalling. The 36 hour delay, the hour of queueing after which they gave me a voucher for a shitty hotel 40 miles away and sent me out in the snow to find a bus that didn't exist, their refusal to cover my travel costs to and from the hotel, the lying on the phone when I called to get my compensation processed.

The whole thing was a shit show. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Shmithecat2 · 10/09/2019 06:56

@Brooklynninenineninetynine

Where are you flying to? Depending on location, luggage is either included with the economy seat, or you get the option to pay extra for checked luggage when you book...

AlwaysCheddar · 10/09/2019 07:07

Depends where you are going obviously!

Brooklynninenineninetynine · 10/09/2019 12:35

@Shmithecat2 the main leg of the light is Dallas to Heathrow with another flight on other side
I booked through a website and they've said only carryon luggage is included. I've never heard of booking a long haul flight and not having checked in luggage. Is this new with BA I wonder

Kitty1184 · 10/09/2019 12:38

100000% worth it! We flew them to Japan and back earlier this year. I hate flying and was really not looking forward to this 12 hour one.

Was so comfortable, loads of legroom, a glass of fizz when you sit down, great food and service... I could go on! Do it!
