Has anyone flown BA Premium Economy?

Is it any better? Is it worth it ?

Why would you even consider flying BA? If their IT isn’t crashing then they’re on strike

UnfamousPoster · 10/09/2019 12:58

We've never paid extra and was pretty happy with BA last time we flew economy with them (to Vegas). Plenty of food and drink (actually turned down more wine at one point because I was starting to feel rather lightheaded after the two mini bottles he gave me as a pre-dinner drink!).

Yes, the screens were pretty rubbish, but they were good enough for a 10 hour flight. I didn't notice that the PE screens were any different on our plane. The Business Class seats though?? They looked amazing (as we had to walk through them to get to cattle class - bastards!).

The main reason I'd pay to upgrade now would be to guarantee only two seats together. We ended up sitting next to a lovely girl who was in the middle of an epic long journey from the middle east and she fell in to a deep, coma-like sleep and was really difficult to wake up when we needed to go to the loo!

Otherwise, I'd rather have the extra money to pay for something nice at my destination.

Odd... I fly mid/long haul (RUH to LHR) with BA once every 3 months or so, have done for 6 years now, and when we flew economy, checked luggage was always included, not an optional extra. Confused

This thread is well timed as we are considering booking BA premium economy to fly London - Tokyo in the spring. It's not massively more expensive so I'm hoping it makes a difference on such a long flight.

The longest flight I've done up to this point is LHR - JFK and it's just about fine in economy.

They offer several options when you're booking an economy flight and it sounds like you've selected the "super economy" option, which is just hand luggage.

Kitty1184 · 10/09/2019 19:30

@amusedbush the Tokyo flight is totally worth it. On the way back the flight is operated by Japan Air who are also brilliant, but I much preferred BA

soulrider · 10/09/2019 19:45

I personally would only pay about 50 pounds more per flight for premium economy, it's just not worth it for me. But different people value different things. We did it one way only on a flight back from Vancouver because we needed the extra luggage allowance and you get the allowance both ways even if only one way is premium economy.

I don't recall the food or entertainment being any different from economy, except i think we had nicer cutlery! Tiny cabin so there were no seats that we could book together.

I’m shocked st these experiences of BA Economy. We just did NY there and back in economy had- g&t + snack on take off, then wine with 3 course meal and coffee, ice cream and then bagel/ croissant and another drink before landing. Great screen and films. I watched the Queen movie on the way out and that Richard E Grant one he just got nominated an Oscar for on the way back. Plane was old but wouldn’t have bothered with premium even if more leg room.

OneHamm3r · 10/09/2019 19:49

Flights bang on time even after the airport was shut down with storms.

amusedbush · 10/09/2019 21:17

@Kitty1184

Thank you! I have noticed that some return flights are Japan Air but others are BA and I do intend to stick with what I know Grin

I’m not tall by any stretch of the imagination but DH is over 6’ so it will be nice to have some extra space for a long flight. He likes to manspread and stick his leg into my seat area Hmm

Shenanagins · 10/09/2019 21:27

We priced up a return journey in premium economy against one leg in economy and the return in business and there wasn’t much difference in price. We chose the latter and it was absolutely worth it. Came off the 12 hour flight home completely relaxed.

stucknoue · 10/09/2019 21:40

Depends on the route, we got fed and watered adequately on a 10 hour flight last year in standard economy, but we aren't that tall so standard seats are fine. The 747's are pretty tatty now though so I would be aggrieved at paying more than the minimum

Kitty1184 · 11/09/2019 08:22

@amusedbush DP is 6'2" and I'm 5'8" but all leg and get horribly uncomfortable in economy. There's little footrests and a huge gap between the 2 chairs do your OH can spread away.

One thing I did prefer about the Japan Airways flight is that the seats don't actually recline, but slip outwards into a hard plastic frame - no seat in your face!

Have an amazing time, Japan is by far the best place I've ever been
