Is there a mattress that would allow my partner to be a big fidgit and not wake me up?

My husband wakes me multiple times a night by rolling over, mild snoring and nicking covers. I have trouble sleeping as it is so this is breaking me. I am miserable and depressed through lack of sleep. I've tried earplugs, which I struggle to sleep in and could hear him but not the toddler in the next room when I needed to. We have a pocket sprung king sized mattress already. I have suggested two beds pushed next to each other to make a superking but he got really upset and said we might as well be divorced if we did that. I love him but I hate the fact he'd rather see me knackered and miserable than doing something that could help.
Is there a miracle mattress our there that smothers out heavy rolling or do we need to call a divorce lawyer? (Last bit light-hearted)

You can get mattresses which look like one mattress but are two separate ones underneath

Also his attitude fucking stinks, I’d b telling him he needs to work on this with you as it’s his behaviour that’s causing you such terrible sleep and if he doesn’t, then I’d be sleeping in another room

TheSpottedZebra · 09/09/2019 18:18

2 singles in a super king frame.
He'll barely notice - but you will.

SheeshazAZ09 · 09/09/2019 18:20

My DP and I have separate rooms. I made it a condition of our getting together. Love him dearly but also need my sleep. Your DH's attitude is terrible.

separate mattresses and separate duvets.
makes such a difference for sleep quality.

FadedRed · 09/09/2019 18:24

Well if that is his attitude in regard to your comfort, health and well being (sleep problems can be a factor in serious health issues), then go for the divorce.

reluctantbrit · 09/09/2019 18:25

We have separate mattresses and duvets. Our marriage wouldn’t survive otherwise.

XXcstatic · 09/09/2019 18:27

Try waking him up every time he wakes you up for a few nights. And yes, separate mattresses.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/09/2019 18:28

we might as well be divorced if we did that.

Well that's his choice then. Because you need sleep. He wants his needs met but not yours.

SistersOfMerci · 09/09/2019 18:28

For our own sanity I'm the snoring fidget we have separate beds in different bedrooms. It's bloody marvellous Grin

Stroan · 09/09/2019 18:30

A ziplink mattress on a super king size frame. Can't feel a thing when DH moves.

YobaOljazUwaque · 09/09/2019 18:30

We are in a similar situation and things have much improved by having two zip&link mattresses on a King Size bed frame (a good quality oak one that is really sturdy) and also two single duvets rather than one big one.

SistersOfMerci · 09/09/2019 18:31

I should have added that my husband used to think like yours, separate beds were the downwards spiral to divorce.

But he's fully on board with it now, we are both better rested and not snapping at each other -he used to nudge me repeatedly-- life is better.

0nTheEdge · 09/09/2019 18:57

Thank for the advice everyone, I'll look into the ziplink mattresses on the one frame and hopefully it'll be enough like 'one bed' to compromise. I'll do the separate duvets as a second step so I don't rock the boat too much in one go! He's not actually horrible, he's lovely (although he bloody infuriates me sometimes). He is genuinely worried it would be the start of the end if we had separate beds.

And I snore sometimes so I know I'm far from perfect 😬

My dh is a fidget and we find memory foam mattress work a lot better than a sprung or foam ones

Howzaboutye · 09/09/2019 19:23

IKEA superking mattress, the second to most expensive, with a double duvet for each of you.

He can figit all he wants but he won't disturb you.
Sleeeeeep

LoveGrowsWhere · 09/09/2019 19:29

Another zipped single mattresses but I forget to zip them when changing the bedding ;)

redchocolatebutton · 09/09/2019 19:30

we don't bother with a zip between mattresses but have a thin mattress topper that disguises the grove.

Silversun83 · 09/09/2019 20:22

My DH sounds similar to yours (in his rolling around and previous attitude to separate beds!).

We did separate rooms for a while (which was bliss!), currently have two single mattresses on a super king frame and two duvets. It's okay, definitely better than a smaller bed/one mattress but have to say not perfect. Realised recently when we slept in separate rooms again (he had a stomach bug) how much deeper I sleep by myself!

0nTheEdge · 10/09/2019 09:31

We have a lovely king-size bed already, can I get the 2 mattresses to fit in that? And if so can anyone recommend good ones and where to get them from?
I spoke to husband again yesterday and he finally realises how serious it is when I explained exactly how depressed lack of sleep is making me. It freaked him out massively and was the kick he needed.

If your frame is King Size then you need to go for 2'6" (75cm) zip & links rather than full size singles.

We did exactly this as we already had a King Size frame. The exact mattress we got doesn't seem to be on the market any more, but is called "Staples Splendour" - we were choosing between numerous options though so there should be plenty of others available - you just need to go to a big enough warehouse showroom as the smaller bed shops don't tend to stock highly specialised things. They will order them for you but that requires you to have the confidence to commit to a pricey purchase without having seen the thing first!

YobaOljazUwaque · 10/09/2019 11:30

e.g. on the Dreams website you can search for King Size Mattresses where type=Zipped and there are 10 options. I can't recommend Dreams specifically though.

Megan2018 · 10/09/2019 11:40

We have a superking zip and link in both master bedrooms but it didn’t help much so we now have a bedroom each and it is bliss.

JonnyPocketRocket · 10/09/2019 11:41

We have two single mattresses next to eachother and separate duvets. In terms of intimacy, no different from a normal double bed. In terms of sleep quality, totally different.
