DH in surgery- keep me company.

Very small malignant tumour in DH's kidney discovered totally by accident a few months ago. Very lucky it was discovered as 5 years further down the line when symptoms become apparent, cure is much more difficult.

DH (53) currently having robotic keyhole partial nephrectomy surgery to remove the tumour. Not ill at all. Surgeon very confident the surgery will get rid of it. Surgeon is top guy in the country for this type of procedure so DH hopefully in good hands:🤞

I haven't slept properly for 2 months. He is inclined to depression and feelings of impending doom which although I understand, makes it really hard for me.

I haven’t really had anyone to talk to about it and obviously can’t make my fears to him known as he is freaked out enough as it is.

I have between 4 and 5 hours to kill. Someone distract me.

@Kelsoooo - what are the options???

justilou1 · 09/09/2019 11:17

I ADORE Handel, @BrigitsBigKnickers.... did you know that he became so enraged by a soprano’s inability to get it right that he dangled her out a window by her ankles? (Scandalous!!!) My favourite works of his are Semele and Giulio Cesare

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 11:17

Ooh Kelso I have absolutely no fashion sense so not sure I am the right person to askGrin

I like a bit of Rameau.
My favourites ( of others ) are Bach Cello Concerto , ( not Isserlis ) and Sibelius “Finlandia”.

justilou1 · 09/09/2019 11:19

Bach was a genius, but had 21 kids... I can’t quite let that go. I went to his house in Eisenach in Germany (beautiful town, btw) and thought if only walls could talk!

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 11:21

Ha ha Justilou not heard that one.

I am learning a Bach Partita and corrente at the moment. Bit too difficult for me really ( both GradeVIII pieces and I am more a grade VI) really love them. My family think I am bonkers as I practise in my wet room- (the acoustics are wonderful.) Visitors are usually highly amused when they go to the loo in there to find a music stand with sheet music in the shower part! Grin

Yes , Kelsoo , what are you thinking of ?
Style and Beauty section might be better for that BUT I am always up for giving an opinion.

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 11:24

Some people like to take singing in the shower to a whole new level!Grin

justilou1 · 09/09/2019 11:26

Cellos make everything better don’t they, @AnneKipanki??? Rameau is gorgeous too! I need to go back and start listening again just to listen and enjoy. I think studying music killed the enjoyment of it for me. I sang in a church in Austria with an organ that predated Bach. It was not well-tempered. The organist was, though. He found my excitement so contagious he gave me a tour of the place and it was where King John from the tales of Robin Hood was held hostage. Robin Hood was a myth but the king certainly was true. He was NOT popular with the people of England who did not want him back!!! Disney has a lot to answer for!!!

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 11:30

They do . I love the deep vibration and sound.
I have a few recordings , different artists but I do have favourites.
I am not musically talented at all .

I will see if I can find that version of Greensleeves Brigit

justilou1 · 09/09/2019 11:32

BTW, @BrigitsBigKnickers, all my best concerts have been in my shower.

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 11:34

So , Kelsooo , is the award thing black tie , business suit , ?
Is it a meal ? Any dancing ?

aweedropofsancerre · 09/09/2019 11:34

My DH has robotic surgery a couple of weeks ago after finding out he had throat and lung cancer at age 48. Surgeons are fantastic and I have no doubt your hubby will be fine.

As for music my DD plays the piano, harpsichord and cello. I can’t play a thing!

justilou1 · 09/09/2019 11:37

Oops! Wrong link. Same singer though...

AnneKipanki · 09/09/2019 11:46

Good story too !

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 11:47

UPDATE!
Just heard from the surgeon. All is well. Went very smoothly and confident he got it all out.
DH is currently in recovery but waking up well and should be back in the room in about 3/4 of an hour!

Phew!

Thanks so much for all of you who have helped to distract me this morning. It's gone more quickly that I thought it would! X

@BrigitsBigKnickers have just read this thread. What lovely news on a lovely thread.. well done all.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 09/09/2019 12:01

Just seen your message Itsagrandoldteam. Thanks that's very reassuring. I have read many other stories like yours- it seems that if it's caught before any spread then it's easily cured.

The surgeon said the stats for DHs type and size of tumour were about 96% survival after 5 years.

Anne comes my back to your question about my dad at Christmas- he only lives round the corner to me so no need to stay. He usually comes with his brother in tow ( who is 86).Bowels and bladders seem to feature heavily in the topic of conversation which isn't particularly savoury during Christmas lunch ... ConfusedGrin
