Should I be worried about these marks? (pic)

Ds(3) has these marks near his armpit at the back. He also has a tiny few on the other side and on the front. Dh thinks it’s where he’s been picked up under his arm pits, which makes sense due to location but he’s never reacted like this before and he’s always been picked up that way.

Has anyone’s dc had similar?

Fingernail marks?

picklemepopcorn · 07/09/2019 18:39

Is he gripping himself there, wrapping himself arms tightly around himself and pinching? It's a sort of comfort move.

If not, it's quite worrying. When you say 'he's never reacted like this before' what do you mean?

GrimDamnFanjo · 07/09/2019 18:41

Is it eczema?

Carpet burn? Dc been dragging him around by the feet?

QsGal · 07/09/2019 18:44

My husband sometimes gets these when he’s been wearing rucksack? Has he had a new bag for preschool?

Qwerty19 · 07/09/2019 18:46

Dd gets this when she scratches herself. Especially when her skin is wet. Bath / sweat

MegGriffin · 07/09/2019 18:58

I have had similar from going on a fairground ride which left this sort of bruising so it could be being picked up?

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/09/2019 20:00

Pretty sure it’s not eczema, carpet burn, nail marks.

@picklemepopcorn I mean he’s never developed any weird marks from being picked up before.

@QsGal he doesn’t wear a rucksack but I did think perhaps the harness on his new car seat is rubbing. Though this wouldn’t explain the marks on his back?

I really do think it’s from being picked up underarm as that makes the most sense. My concern is why all of a sudden is picking up causing these marks when it hasn’t before?

I can see what looks to be an underlying white rash - but is thus just goosebumps ?

picklemepopcorn · 07/09/2019 20:04

If he's heavier now, or wearing a different, more abrasive fabric?

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/09/2019 20:09

@MrsRufusdog789 just where he’s a bit chilly I think, no other rash

Here’s another photo in a different light

It looks similar to what my nephew gets when it's warm and his clothes rub on him, but I guess a GP visit could be in order if it doesn't settle in a day or so. If it's not bothering him and he has no other symptoms I'd say giving it a day or so is fine.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 07/09/2019 20:21

I get these kind of marks if I scratch myself a bit too hard. I don't even realise I've done it until I catch sight of myself later, almoost like little blood blisters but without raised blisters, iyswim. How are his nails? Could they do with a trim ?

SpoonBlender · 07/09/2019 20:25

Looks like self-scratching to me.

Buddyelf · 07/09/2019 20:26

My DH gets these as well when he’s carrying heavy bags too. My DD also gets them. They’re burst capillaries, likely from scratching or knocking into something?

breaconoptimist · 07/09/2019 20:27

I get these marks if I’ve been carrying a heavy bag on my shoulder - some sort of pressure mark. Are you sure there’s nothing pressing in on his back with the harness?

TheSky · 07/09/2019 20:27

I wouldn't worry about it. Are you worrying from a safeguarding point of view?

TheSky · 07/09/2019 20:28

As in rather than an illness point of view? Either way I wouldn't worry at all! Looks like normal marks that could occur for any number of innocent reasons

SirVixofVixHall · 07/09/2019 20:30

It is mild abrasive bruising, so could be from being picked up, or scratching, or abrasion of any kind really. My dds have had those marks from all sorts of things, as have I.

savingshoes · 07/09/2019 20:42

Looks a bit like the mark you get with a love bite - that bleeding under the skin/bruising.

The location seems like it could be from being picked up but the shape doesn't seem that way.

No idea!

MonsterChopz · 07/09/2019 20:42

DS gets this when he scratches. Always in the same place as it's the only place his wee arms will reach round to.

RHOD · 07/09/2019 20:43

Are they purple? Do they blanch if you apply pressure to them?

Andallofasuddenitsover · 07/09/2019 20:45

I get this from carrying heavy backpacks.

jalopy · 07/09/2019 20:47

Looks like petechiae, possibly from being picked up from under his arms.

Is he well otherwise?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/09/2019 20:47

Does he have eczema at all, my elbow pits get marks like this when I've been scratching them naughty girl, I know
