Should I be worried about these marks? (pic)

Ds(3) has these marks near his armpit at the back. He also has a tiny few on the other side and on the front. Dh thinks it’s where he’s been picked up under his arm pits, which makes sense due to location but he’s never reacted like this before and he’s always been picked up that way.

Has anyone’s dc had similar?

I get eczema in exact same place, similar marks

froufroufoxes · 07/09/2019 20:54

Is it like blood rising up under the skin without the skin getting broken? But not a bruise.
I've had this before from mild pressure. Almost like a bruise that doesn't hurt.
As it's local and not spreading I would assume it's from contact rather than some illness or whatever.

Raphael34 · 07/09/2019 21:01

I don’t know if it’s my crap phone or a bad pic but I can’t see enough detail to make a judgement. Not to scare you, it could be a number of things, but no one should be handling your ds so roughly that it’s causing him injury, and self harming is as much as a worry. If the marks are occurring with little pressure then that could point to possible leukaemia. You need to take him to a doctor, not an Internet forum

@TheSky no safeguarding concerns no, he’s only been with me

@Raphael34 leukaemia is what google has scared me with this evening. Especially as he’s been complaining of his legs hurting quite a bit recently and also today sore gums.

Thanks for all the responses, glad to hear others have this and it’s nothing serious but I think I’ll take him to the gp in the morning to be safe

Forgot tomorrow is Sunday! I will take him Monday

Any similar marks on his lower legs, OP?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/09/2019 21:35

I've had marks like that wearing wooly jumpers and leaning on my arms.

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/09/2019 21:35

No marks on lower legs

My daughter has gotten marks identical to that on her shoulders - only a couple of times, after a session in the gym. I think it's her from sports bra rubbing . Maybe it's from your son's rucksack. Doctor never any harm if you are unsure Smile.

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/09/2019 21:42

He doesn’t wear a rucksack

Andallofasuddenitsover · 07/09/2019 21:43

Could it be seatbelt related?

fandabbyfannyflutters · 07/09/2019 21:46

I get them when I've had a blood pressure taken so looks like some sort of pressure/rubbing mark

BogglesGoggles · 07/09/2019 21:49

They look a bit like stretch marks actually.

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/09/2019 21:50

I think it is a pressure mark but I’m worried about why it’s all of a sudden appeared now with no obvious cause

OP posts:
whattodo2019 · 07/09/2019 22:01

They look like marks made by

  1. Nails
  2. Carrying something heavy over shoulders
  3. Skin being 'wring' or twisted

Could any of these be possible. What has your son said about them?

cherrytreecottage · 07/09/2019 22:08

Both DSD get these marks occasionally as does my DH. It's normally where bags have been worn on shoulder blades or DSD1 rolls the sleeves on her blazer and it marks like this in the crease of her arm. Usually disappears within a day or so!

MamaRaisingBoys · 07/09/2019 23:48

@whattodo2019 he hasn’t said anything, just says he doesn’t know where it’s come from. It’s definitely not nail marks and he hasn’t worn a bag.

Someone mentioned it looking like the mark a love bite leaves, it is very much like that but more purple

Hi wondering did you find out what this was my son is having random brusing under his chin the last few weeks.

GlamGiraffe · 27/05/2020 12:10

That could be where the seams of certain t shirts or tops rub and irritate and hes scratching the itch. Have a look inside his mist popular tops perhaps.

Apakm2010 · 27/05/2020 12:20

My son has had what looks like those marks. Faded after a couple of days. Some kind of friction from playing I think. Some people bruise more easily than others!

CoffeeDay · 27/05/2020 13:10

I get these when the tiny plastic clip on the back of my bra strap rubs against my back when I sit back on a chair. It's entirely painless and I don't even notice it until I see it in the mirror. The bruising is almost identical.

Of course in your case it's definitely not a bra strap but it can easily be a tight seam, certain position from playing, carseat/pram strap snagged on a sleeve etc. It might have appeared for the first time because he's grown bigger so certain straps/clothing are tighter around the armpit and exert more friction than before.

If it goes away in a few days I wouldn't worry!

Aeiou12 · 12/05/2023 05:56

I’ve been “researching” similar marks online I have been developing for a while. Backpacks can be heavy and I’m a student and mine is leaving me the exact marks but on my collarbone too.

SophiaDavis87 · 30/10/2023 05:33

I think those are just stretch marks. it is unusual for a child to have stretch marks, but, it makes sense especially if he has been having rapid growth.
