Amazon - prime and other stuff

Been a prime subscriber for a few months now but really only been using for prime video although thanks to a lovely mner I've also tapped into free magazines which I'm loving.

I need to order some stuff and due to ocd nonsense I NEED deliveries to be on specified days. My "basket" is ready to go,

Delivery options are

"Free prime delivery on X day"

Or

"Free Amazon day delivery on X day"

The days are the same day for both but which is more reliable? And what does "free Amazon day delivery" mean?

Also the "pantry" thing came up and that plain confuses me but I think it's something I COULD find useful.

AND there's that repeat ordering thingy? How does that work?

While I'm on a roll... podcasts are something I want to "get into" and I'm thinking there's probably podcasts available on prime?

I've also got some birthday money I've not spent yet which I'm thinking of buying an Amazon dot speaker? I need a new speaker old one isn't holding charge as well and occasionally losing volume (just a wee cheap Argos one I got couple years ago)

So...talk to me about Amazon/prime etc?

I have Prime, been disappointed with the deliveries tbh, items I have ordered on Prime delivery, can often take 3 days to arrive.

You can change your prime day, it's a bit of an odd system.

Belfast - on kindle select prime reading then scroll down and you'll see magazines listed and you can choose from there. Can't remember if all free so check but certainly plenty are.

I've already downloaded and read women's weekly, downloading tvtimes now and might download another later. I used to love reading magazines but current MH issues are making it difficult to purchase/handle. So this is perfect for me.

Roselilly - see that's what worries me! I cannot have deliveries happening on days I can't cope with - can I ask are you in a part of uk that's considered "difficult" to deliver to? Eg Highlands and Islands?

My current order I'm getting a deliver date of Sunday but I don't think the delivery franchisees work on a Sunday so potentially could receive on mon/tue which is a problem for me.

Bookgirl - how do you change it and how reliable is it them sticking to that? Thu/fri/sat are much better days for me.

You need to watch out for prime delivery as it is a misconception it's always next day delivery. however, when you go to checkout it should say the day of your delivery and in my experience it's never not been the day it says.
I'm not sure there's a difference between Amazon day and Amazon prime deliveries.

And they do deliver Sunday's. Basically they employ Joe bloggs as drivers and they work round the clock!

Agree that you get a better day estimation at checkout. You do get notification if the delivery is delayed which I haven't had often, but does happen (I order quite a lot). You don't have to accept the delivery though, around by me (mainland UK, reasonable sized city), they leave a card through the letterbox and try again the next day.

Would your OCD cope with collecting the parcel from the Amazon collection points? They have big yellow lockers round by us but you can also pick up from various other places. Or could someone collect from there on your behalf?

Yea I get that horehound but I'm relatively familiar with my local drivers and I know they don't work Sunday's but that's the date Amazon is currently giving me! I just don't feel confident in them delivering on the Sunday.

I'd be confident in a Sunday delivery but understand if you have OCD about this you need to be sure they will. Can you email Amazon to double check?

Amazon will probably use their own drivers on a sunday they frequently deliver here on a sunday.

Amazon prime day can be set to one day a week say Monday then if you order stuff on thursday, saturday and sunday everything will be delivered on the monday.

We often get Sunday deliveries using Prime, most weekends in fact (we order way too much on amazon ). Agree with pp it will specify date at the checkout, most things on prime are next day but not all, some can take 2 or 3.

As long as you're logged in and your delivery address is correct then it tells you what day it will come. Even if it's a Sunday. They've always delivered on the day they said they would but I am in London. Sometimes deliveries can be up to 9pm. Also if I'm not I or don't answer they usually leave stuff in my porch.

It also depends if you live in a busy city/town. When I lived in the Midlands if I ordered before midday the parcels would arrive same day & they would update me and show me were the parcel was with the driver and how many stops left before it got to my door. But I did notice that cheap items under £5 may take 48hrs as it's not cost effective for them to send same/next day.

With prime you can also get 'amazon music" which works the same as spotify or apple music etc.

In my experience of being a Prime member for many years, less and less items are available for next day delivery. More and more that offer Prime delivery say 2-5 days once you go to checkout. Books tend to be reliably available for next day delivery though. I have found the delivery day specifies extremely reliable. Only has maybe 2 things late out of hundreds.

There have been various offers over the years like of you choose a slower delivery you could get an Amazon Video £1 voucher or a Pantry voucher but they don't seem to be running those at the moment sadly.

Amazon prime day means you can chose a day in the week that you get all your deliveries. So you choose the day. Amazon often employ their own drivers, and if they say they will deliver on Sunday, they will. It’s very rare these days that they mess up. Also they seem to cover quite a large area and have maybe 120 deliveries.
Are you saying you live in a very hard to get to area? It seems that it’s very accurate now and it used to be the cut off for next day delivery was quite early where I live but it’s getting later and later.

We rarely have a problem with Prime, although I've noticed that I don't always get the notification when they're nearby now which is frustrating. I only seem to get them if it's a Same Day 6pm-10pm delivery, those deliveries come from a different delivery depot to the one which delivers for the normal Prime time slot.

Mine virtually always come on the day they say, I only get delays on non-Prime items. I do live about half a mile from a depot though which probably helps!

That's the thing I'm in rural west Scotland!

The drivers assigned to my area I see from the delivery updates can start their day from as far afield as East Kilbride, even Hamilton on occasion!

I mostly listen to absolute 80's but I am going through a music phase and would be good to listen to other decades music too but I'm not particularly keen on current stuff. I used to use Spotify more must get back into that but willing to try Amazon music.

That's how I was able to get my fire tablet couple years ago, my parents kindly gave me the money after I ordered (think I had a thread on here about it) as an early Christmas gift.

I'm on the mainland but my "region" on a lot of companies sited makes it look like I'm on the islands (it's partly a daft postcode thing! We're in same postcode area as some islands but we ARE on the mainland, many arguments with retailers on the matter when they try and tell me I live on an island when I know I bloody don't!!)

I've found the expected delivery date to be reliable but only if coming direct from Amazon, orders I have had from merchants recently have been a few days out.

The vast majority of my Prime orders cone the next day, including Sundays, but can come as late as 10pm.

On lots of prime items you can choose a different delivery day. It's in the checkout bit where it shows you the delivery day. Not every item allows you to do this, but I've found when I've selected the day I want, especially if it's a good 48hrs away, I get the item on the day selected.
